just disappearing. anthony sent twous pictures he shot about sock last night, he took this one in menlo park. you can see the strike here and this is a picture from a different angle. looks like it hit something but didn't. thomas mcdonald shot this picture of hail in his backyard that is unusual. and also in, san francisco international airport 60 flights cancelled and one flight had to turn around after being struck by lightning. vic lee joins us with that story. what an event for those people. >> oh, yeah. well, cheryl there is a bit of wind but as you can see, it was a clear day. and the plane was about 45 minutes into the air. passengers experienced

something scary. here is what happened in their own words. united flight 930 took off, passengers were nervous. >> this is bumpy and i covered my eyes. >> all of a sudden there was a mighty bang. the kids started crying. >> and there is a big..., big flash. and a bang. and... then, within seconds, the oxygen masks fell. >> exit sign popped. emergency sign popped. >> when the lightning popped i woke up. i might not need coffee ever again. >> there is a lot of "oh, my god". >> this passenger said there was an erie silence peem were waiting to hear what is going to happen next. >> viviane says the captain spoke. >> he just said ladies and gentlemen we've just been

struck by lightning. that was it, really. >> i don't need fire works displays on the wing. no. >> as an engineer i figured plane, fuselages are protected from lightning. only negative is where circuits got fried. >> the captain told passengers everything was all right and the plane returned to san francisco. >> did you have a couple pints afterwards? >> i'm going to have to. >> and most boarded another flight on this friday. friday the 13th. >> before i was scared that oh, we're going to land on tri the 13th now we're going to fly off on friday the 13th. i don't know what is better. >> this passenger said not to worry. >> being chinese 13 is a lucky number sclam. >> -- ! >> that is right. i can tell you. there are three other flights struck by lightning as they approached in san jose last night. all three plains landed safely. i can tell you that these are

experiences, trust me that, people will never forget. my wife was a flight attendant many, many years and will never forget the time lightning struck her flight. she said it came from the front of the plane traveled through the aisle between the seats of the passengers and all the way to the back of the plane. and this was like decades ago. she still reminds me of that. scary stuff. >> i had it happen on a plane. it's scary. thank you very much. a powerful storm took the live of a little girl in santa cruz. authorities say the 6-year-old was playing in the surf on a beach near pleasure point. she was hit by a powerful wave that pinned her under a log, poor thing. young girl air lifted to stanford hospital. sad to say she died from her injuries. >> and the storm saturated the ground with several hillsides giving way. one about 7:00 this morning.

the soil developed a consistency of pudding and it took down trees. crews are still checking to see whether a home suffered damage. and near moraga, canyon road is open to traffic. the rain caused flooding and triggered a rock slide. sky 7 was overhead today. crews started to clean up the mess. it took heavy equipment to clear boulders blocking the road. >> crew as considers the bay area are dealing with a lot of downed trees up rooted by wind and rain. into santa cruz mountains, massive oak snapped and crashed with a mile and a half off highway 17. and no power lines and no one lost electricity. this scene is similar in berkeley. crews are cutting up this giant fallen tree. and it looks like it narrowly missed self homes on prince street. >> a storm brought a lot of snow to the sierra.

about one to two feet of snow overnight this, morning the snow still falling by afternoon, the skies were clear. abc p ever 7 joins us from soto springs. >> there is a line set up here to close up or start gearing down and there is a then a gift fell from the sky. the he stoshl brought up to two feet of fresh snow to spots in the tahoe basin. for some that means they can extend the season by a few more weeks. donner ski ranch says it's looking to stay open until may. later closings are good news since there is no snow in december and january. >> there is a conditions that are excellent. people are interested in skiing. now is the time to hit. >> the new powder attracted visitors from far away. many thought this would be the last chance to play in the snow.

this family traded in a tropical 85 degree weather for chilly sierra. it took them two and a half days to drive up here. >> to get my son into snow. yeah. that is the only reason. the snow. >> it doesn't snow near puerto vallarta? >> are you kidding me? no. >> for these residents it provided an excuse for a road trip. >> we don't get this in so cal. i wish we did. it's a great opportunity to be here. >> the fresh snow was too little, too late for some ski resort. many will close up sunday after all, it's spring. borreal using a record six million gallons of recycled water to make snow to keep visitors happy. >> we're closing with new snow but know everybody in the valley starts to think about golfing and boating and everything like that. sho so it's been a good season

wanted for kidnapping and qau. he and a woman ran into jack london inn. after three and a half hours that included a room to room search, officers walked out with the suspect. he had tried to disguise himself. >> the suspect did change clothes and into womens' clothing and did try to disguys his appearance to evade police detention. >> you can see him there. the suspect female companion was also taken into custody. no word if she's a suspect herself. >> police say they have found a body of a codough mefto fourplex where a gunman shot two people. a sheriff's deputy and lock smith were killed. the deputy tried to evict a tenant from one of the apartments. that started a day-long siege lasting until s.w.a.t. teams fired flash grenades into the town house last night. that started a fire apparently. investigators say they're sure

the body found inside was a still unidentified killer. >> it's been a month today since sierra lamar disappeared from morgan hill. today, deputies spent the second day diving into reservoirs looking for clues. abc 7 is live tonight at chesbro reservoir. >> right. and they've spent most of the day here at yu by. s reservoir, but these two are getting the most interest because they're ones closest to seera lamar's home. out of about 2000 sonar images, the dive teams honed in on about a dozen that pro accused objects that were curious, they wanted to rule them out as phone shall evidence in this case. six divers from the sheriff's office are navigating murky waters. they don't mind the heavy rain but the team is keeping an eye
