weather. here is frances dinglasan. >> it is starting off cloudy and cool. here is a live shot under gray skies but we will see more sunshine. currently in san francisco it's 50 degrees and cooler in sanlt roses at 45 where there is a lot of fog. visibility is less an fourth of a mile and mile in novato but we will warm up in this afternoon. clouds will pull back to the coast. mid-50s to mid-60s by lunchtime and more sunshine for everybody for the afternoon hours with temperatures climbing to near 70 degrees. >> carolyn: thank you. developing news this morning, military helicopters and boats are searching the waters outside the golden gate hoping to find four sailors from a racing yacht that struck rocks near the farallon islands. three sailors were recovered and body of fourth were recovered. four are still missing. here is a report from the

st. francis yacht club. >> reporter: at the coastguard air station at international airport you can see the crew of the rescue helicopter after recovering the victim of this crash. >> three people have been rescued. two by a coast guard helicopter. one by an international guard helicopter. international guard helicopter picked up a deceased person. >> they continued their search but there are still four people that are missing. the yacht that ran aground is called the low speed chase. it was part of the annual cruise race that left from the yacht club. according to the yacht racing association website, the skipper of that yacht is james bradford but the coastguard has not released any information about anyone aboard the yacht. >> i heard mayday calls. >> mark was charter on the farallon islands and was not part of the race when he heard the distress calls. it was tough day to be out on the water. >> the waves were 10-15 foot.

it was treacherous. waves coming from different directions. >> search crews are using helicopters and boats. they were still looking for itself four people that are ambiguous missing. >> high possibility that they are in the water. don't know what kind of suits they have or whether they have life jackets. >> reporter: word spread quickly where the race started and ended. some of the participants who were in that race are hoping for the best for the people who are still missing. >> carolyn: more than 120 tornadoes and counting. that is the treacherous reality right now in the midwest. at least five people have died just this midnight. 29 are injured. right now, searchers are looking for more victims in woodward, oklahoma. the mayor now says sirens failed

to go off because they were the first things taken out by that twister. ginger zee has been chasing storms in kansas and reports from wichita. >> it's coming right for me. >> reporter: tornado after tornado pounding states from oklahoma to iowa, to kansas. >> wow! >> reporter: the twisters enormous. the damage, devastating. >> the next thing i know the house was shaking and i could feel it lifting. >> look at this. in cherokee, oklahoma a terrifying double tornadoes. >> two twisters from the same storm. that super track cell barreled through for more than five hours touching down dozens of times crossing a distance of 250 into

miles. >> in iowa, in thurman, homes torn apart. the storm started in the afternoon and haven't stopped yet. >> we were there as that tornado was born. >> you don't see it touch all the way to the ground but it is a full tornado. you can see right at the base and some at the top. that is how the tornado forms. right now, even when you see it, there circulation at the ground. >> in kansas a first look at the damage. trees uprooted, stop lights in the street and in nebraska, the tornado dropped this massive hail. >> look how big. oh, my gosh! 6 >> carolyn: forecasters say more violent weather is possible as that system moves east. back here at home. investigators are trying to determine the cause of an apartment fire in san

francisco's castro district. it started around 10:00 last night at sanchez and market streets. firefighters were able to quickly get it under control but one person has been hospitalized with serious injuries. the red cross is assisting two people that are now homeless. fire crews rescued a cat from that building. >> in the south bay, san jose police continue their investigation into an apparent murder-suicide. the violence taking place with a baby in one victim's car. it happened yesterday morning at a busy shopping center on east capitol expression way. >> we found a 17-month-old baby in one of vehicles associated to the two individuals, child protect services has the baby. >> the names have not been released. here is what police say happened. around 9:30 yesterday morning the driver. bmw parked, got out of his car, walked up to a woman he who was standing a few feet away and

shot her. he then shot himself. people inside mcdonald's and subway ran outside to help, but it was too late. >> i ran over to where the body was on the ground. i looked to see if it was breathing. it was not breathing. i seen a group of people gathering around the girl over there. >> carolyn: police found a gun near the man's body. investigators are not telling us yet about a possible motive. volunteers are back out this morning looking for morgan hill teenager sierra lamar. she was last seen back on march 16th. yesterday more than 400 people walked the neighborhood. they hiked through hilly, muddy terrain for her but found no signs. anyone that wants to help today can reported to the find sierra search center in morgan hill. >> up next, suspended sheriff's wife tries to delay the date of

management to move out. they plan to hold a rally and sign a petition as they tell stories as what sara bowl has met to them all these years. >> now that the weather is nice again, it's good time to get outside and enjoy san francisco sunday streets program. from 11:00 to 4:00, sections of the great highway and parts of golden gate park will be closed to traffic so you can teach your young one how to ride a bike or you can hula hoop or roller skated or do anything you want to do safely without having to worry about traffic. this is the second sunday streets event so far this year. >> nice day. you can put away the umbrellas and even the jacket. >> possibly this afternoon. >> we are in the bay area. and here is a live shot in san jose where we are already seeing some sunshine. partly cloudy, conditions. i'll tell you when the clouds will clear for your neighborhood

>> carolyn: welcome back. it's 9:16. this is a live look from our camera showing you santa cruz is 53 degrees there right now. pretty overcast but frances is right here sitting next to me to tell us how the weather is going to be. thank you for joining us this morning. >> we are going to see more sunshine including santa cruz. another live shot showing the gray skies. we're starting off cooler, treasure island and in the distance those clouds will pull back to the coast. they are over most of the bay area right now. current temperatures if you are heading out the door shortly, it's 50 in san francisco and low 50s around the rest of the bay

area. 47 in santa rosa. it's been cool there this morning. vision built has actually improved. dropped visibility to less than fourth of a mile. currently it's three-fourths of a mile. four miles in half moon bay and no major visibility problems elsewhere. today we start off with low clouds, cool, but then in this afternoon a lot of sunshine and then it's going to be dry and warm all week, yeah, all week. put the umbrellas away. a sharp contrast to what we experienced last week. here is the satellite radar image, clockwise flow, stable air and high clouds passing through. this low front we thought would bring rain to the north bay but it's looking less and likely and drier and warmer conditions and lots of sunshine in store for us. here at forecast model that clouds peeling back slowly.

san jose, livermore will be the first to see sunshine. those in the low 70s. then by this afternoon we might see some clouds still lingering along the coast in half moon bay but sunny in santa cruz. here is a look at the highs for today. 70 in fairfield and antioch. a lot of sunshine. napa getting up to 67 and partly cloudy conditions kind of continue over san francisco along the coast. 62 in downtown san francisco as well as for the giants game today and then sunnier and mild, oakland and fremont, san jose, 67 degrees. look for some low 70s in morgan hill and gilroy. cooler at monterey but 68 in santa cruz. traveling around the state, it's dry and mild and sunny in the southern california. 67 in los angeles, 70 in palm springs, tahoe, 53 degrees and chico, 70 degrees for you. also you've been wondering how

we've been doing in terms of rainfall, closer to 70% of normal. average of santa rosa. one day alone in san francisco, we got 1.12 inches. closer to 70% and san jose 48%. so we did jump quite a bit. here is a look at accu-weather seven-day forecast, completely different. what you see is a lot of sunshine, drier and warmer. we're going warm up a little bit into monday. slightly increasing clouds tuesday night into wednesday with a little dip in temperatures but then more sunshine on tap and even warmer next weekend. >> i love it what we've gone through. >> it's nice to see the sun and outdoors. >> carolyn: thanks. take me out to the ballgame in sports this afternoon. giants go for the series sweep. last night they won in dramatic fashion as fans learned one of the team's all-stars is probably
