>> suddenness of it. the magnitude of it, is horrific. >> alan: an historic yacht race suffers a tragic loss. one dead, three rescued, and four lost at sea. good evening, i'm alan wang. >> ama: i'm ama daetz. the search continued after a sailboat ran aground, cross-swells 15 feet high swerp swept the crew off the ship. here's more on the search live from the coast guard office. >> reporter: time is critical. the coast guard says conditions

out there are pretty rough, and the temperature of the water is only 50 degrees. video from the u.s. coast shows the crew hoisting a sailor into their helicopter. the coast guard says he is one of three people who they rescued yesterday when their boat encountered powerful waves in the fair lob -- farallon island. >> we were looking at winds up to 25 knots, and seas 10-15 feet. >> reporter: this photo shows the sailboat pinned against the rocks. the coast guard says there were a total of eight people on board when a large wave knocked four of them in the ocean. when the crew tried to turn the boat around they encountered another wave which ultimately ran the boat aground there are only three known survivors. the coast guard recovered one body from the water, there were three helicopters, two patrol

boats, a cutter, and an airplane involved in the search. >> because of the conditions, the search area rapidly expands, and so it seemed to cover all that area takes a lot of resources. >> the coast guard says the search will continue until the sun goes down, they'll then re-evaluate and decide where to go from there,. >> alan: and we are learning more about the crew members today. including those who are presumed lost at sea. sergio quintana is live with more on that. >> reporter: some of the webs the crew of the sailboat were members of the yacht club here and they're actually having a private vigil for all of the crew members. i don't know if you can see but there are some flowers on the floor. eight flowersment one for each

crew member. a lot of the people are still holding out hope that some of the missing might still be found. >> details are emerging about the people aboard the 39-foot boat when she ran aground. these are pictures of the yacht during early 'er -- earlier races. killed in the crash, mark kasannan. has body was recovered on saturday. his death makes this the worst tragedy in the history of the san francisco yacht club. >> an event like this that happens of thing magnitude is going to hit every sailor and every racer in the heart. >> reporter: with people still missing there's a possibility the tragedy could get even worse. among the missing, alexis bush, the only woman aboard the eight-person crew. it's a boat she had been on before. in fact this is video she posted to youtube board the yacht

during a prior race. also missing man from san rafael. they were both thrown overboard with a fourth person yet to be identified. three others were rescue build coast guard and air national guard helicopters saturday. those saved include the yacht skipper, james bradford, and crew member, nick voss, and bryan chong. the race is an annual event put on in part by the san francisco yacht club. >> weather conditions were typical for this tomorrow of the year. several crew members confirmed that the conditions were not abnormal. >> reporter: this afternoon i talked at length with one woman who tells me she has served aboard as a crew member of the lowspeed chase and knows all the people aboard the boat yesterday. chev says the four people who are missing are very strong swimmers so she is hoping they might have made it to an island and are hiding in or taking safety in a cave. she also says there are lot of

boaters here who took off this morning, out to the farallons again so they could try to help with the search. reporting live in belvedere, abc-7 news. >> alan: some 61 yachts set out on the full cruise farallon race. a 48-mile course that began at 9:45 yesterday morning. the race began near san francisco's aquatic park and win around the farallon island before returning to the waterfront. the yacht racing association says the race has been held for more than 100 years. >> this is the second yacht rescue off the california coast this month. a 68-foot saybowl is competing in a around the world yacht race, organize ares say after more than a week of repairs in oakland theout set sail yesterday. >> volunteers are back out again looking for morgan hill teenager

sierra lamar. it's been almost a month shin was last seen on march 16th. her mom says she last saw her when she what getting reddy to leave to school. the school has become the search center. volunteers were given specific areas to search. last week divers looked in reservoirs and ponds for clues. so far very few leads have been uncovered. >> san san jose police revealed both victims of the murder-suicide had dated and a baby found in their vehicle was a daughter. officers discovered a man and woman shot to death inside a vehicle at a shopping center on capital expressionway. the couple's daughter was unharmed and is now in protective custody. police have not released the couple's names. >> ama: a private funeral was held for the five people killed inside a san francisco home. three women and two men were found indiana a home near city college on march 23rd. the victims are a mother,

father, adult daughter, and son, and his girlfriend, police have not disclosed the motive. but sources say itid had to do h gambling debts. the suspect has pleaded not guilty and is expected back in court. >> alan: investigators are trying to determine the cause of an apartment fire in san francisco. it started 10:00 lastneath on sanchez street and market. firefighters were able to quickly get it under control but one person was taken to the hospital with serious injuries. fire crews rescued a cat from that building. the red cross is assisting at least two people who are now homeless. lamb am. a they're -- >> amy: they're just realizing the destruction in the midwest. more than 120 tornadoes tear up communities and one town had little warning. >> alan: a big deal for president obama in colombia. >> leigh: i'm leigh glaser.

half moon bay, 54. north bay, santa rosa, seeing sunshine right now, 66 degrees. so we'll go with the coastal clouds and move further inland overnight tonight. look for sunshine breaking out tomorrow, mainly inland, and around the peninsula, we'll keep low cloud near the coast tomorrow and then get ready for a big warmup as we head into the latter part of the work week. here's the low clouds. just sat near the cost. strong onshore winds push them further inland. temperature weiss, with the low cloud moving insuring it will help to insulate us a little bit so look for mid-to-upper 40s across the region. half moon bay, 44. 48 for antioch. here's a look at that storm system. this is the high building in. you can already get a sense of the nice ridge here. soot this point looks like the storm track will stay to the north. the tail end of this front may bring us a few high clouds here and there, and it will keep the coastal clouds with us the next
