can i try yours? san francisco yacht racers haven't given up hope that four are still alive following a boating accident near the farallons. amy the coast guard has a different view. >> reporter: yeah, the coast guard has given up. the crews here at the yacht club say they feel like the sailors were wearing life vests and foul weather gear. the coast guard was hopeful and hospital mystic it -- hopeful and optimistic it would find more. after 30 hours the coast guard feel it is time to stop

looking. eight people were aboard the boat called the low speed chase it was hit by a large wave that knocked some overboard. when they turned the boat around to try and rescue the sailors another wave hit, knocking everyone but one overboard. one person is confirmed dead and recovered. four are missing. the coast guard was able to rescue three sailors. the woman who took that picture, said seeing the boat affected her. >> i was heartbroken when we actually saw a sailboat up on the rocks, knowing what happened yesterday it was horrific to see that in person. >> reporter: that that may-day call went out 3:00 saturday afternoon. the coast guard suspended the search last night saying 30 hours is well beyond the calculated surviveability window. the crew was in a 100-year-old race managed by the yacht club. there were 49 entrants.

sailors have been participating in the search. they haven't said whether they will be heading out again today. amy hollyfield, abc7 news. this morning many who know the missing sailors are still holding out hope. hundreds attended a vigil last night at the yacht club in belvedere. we are learning new details about the crew. the rescued are the skipper and two others. the only female member among the missing was in a photo. still missing 25-year-old who lives in san rafael with two others visiting from ireland. >> an event like this happens hits every sailor and racer right in the heart. >> the only person who is confirmed dead is 41-year-old of belvedere.

his body was recovered saturday. the first death in the history of the san francisco yacht club. if you own a vacant building in san francisco police say board it up. they are trying to keep occupy protesters from squatting in local buildings. sue thomas live in san francisco to explain. >> reporter: good morning. police say get ready occupy protest may be in the works and could happen in the next couple of days that is why this time police believe they may once again target vacant buildings. here's the information that police have, two weeks ago occupy san francisco protesters stormed a vacant building at 888 turk street owned by the archdiocese of san francisco, it was vacant. what the protesters left behind, thousands of dollars in damage from vandalism inside they scrawled anti-corporate slogans on the walls. the building had been used by

sacred heart prep school. now police warn this could happen again in the city. that's why they want vacant buildings boarded up immediately. they say it is a new strategy by the occupy movement to target empty vacant buildings to get their message out against economic disparity. police believe the next takeover-- take over could happen as early as may 1st. the protesters took over the cathedral hill hotel in january. they say the warning says help us out by fencing, boarding and covering your vacant property as soon as possible. with this new warning we may see a lot of buildings around san francisco boarded up. sue thompson, abc7 news. tonight the family of missing morgan hill teenager sierra lahore will hold a

vigil. a month ago -- today the 15-year-old was last seen. investigators believe she was abducted. searchers are vowing to keep looking until she is found. they were out again over the weekend. divers have looked in lakes and reservoirs, but have found nothing. her family will hold the vigil 6:30 tonight at burnet elementary in morgan hill. this morning san jose police still not releasing the names of two people killed in a murder-suicide that took place in a shopping center. a man pulled out a gun and shot a woman in a parking lot of a strip mall saturday and then turned the again on himself. a 17-month-old baby found in the back of the car near the scene is the daughter of the two. she has been placed in foster care. police are not revealing a possible motive. word that the wife of suspended sheriff ross mirkarimi is negotiating to extend her stay in her native venezuela. the chronicle reports eliana lopez is communicating with

mirkarimi through intermediaries. he's under court order to have no contact with her she is under court order to return to san francisco april 28th. she was given permission to visit her ailing father. mirkarimi pleaded guilty to false imprisonment. mayor lee has suspended him without pay. mirkarimi will be back in court thursday to try to get with a judge to reinstate him. in pinole gun rights advocates vow to pack tomorrow's meeting to protest a proposed zoning ordinance they say will chip away at their rights. they hope to convince the council to not pass a plan that would ban the sale of guns in residential areas and limit sales to commercial areas. gun activists are supporting the caretaker who wants to sell firearms out of his residence.

over-the-counter or on the internet with different names. it is a synthetic marijuana, herbs sprayed with chemicals, marketed as incense. one in nine seniors has tried it. teens are showing up in emergency rooms with symptoms that can stump doctors. >> one patient was very aggressive and agitated and sweating a lot and had a high heart rate and high blood pressure. >> reporter: calls to poison control centers jumped from 2900 in 2010 to nearly 7,000 last year this year a record pace over 1200 calls in the first two months alone. this study in pediatrics an attempt to help er doctors spot symptoms caused by these mystery chemicals. >> what is dangerous is we are not sure what is in them and what they are being mixed with. >> reporter: it is far from harmless. sometimes causing hallucinations and paranoia. synthetic marijuana is blamed

participating in a 100-year-old tradition managed by the san francisco yacht club. now these members are in mourning. here's a still picture of the boat called the low speed chase it is now pinned again the rocks on the farallon islands. one crewmember was found dead after the racing accident. four crewmembers are still missing there were a total of eight onboard. the coast guard recovered one body then rescued three sailors. after a long bay, using four helicopters, airplane and three cutters, the coast guard called off the search. >> the coast guard has been searching more than 30 hours well beyond the calculated surviveability window. we are calling off the search. the coast guard would like to extend our condolences to the friends and family of the missing and deceased. >> reporter: officials say a large wave knocked some of the crew into the ocean. rest of the team then turned the boat around to try and rescue them. that's when another large wave

suspects involved in a high speed chase with officers. it ended with the vehicle crashing into a light pole near carson and bay view north of the 80/580 split in richmond. police took one person into custody right way they searched through the thick brush for the second person. investigators are saying little else about the case, including why police began the pursuit. faculty members at all 23 california state university campuses begin voting today on whether to strike. the vote comes a week after mediation between the university and the california faculty association ended without an agreement. the main issues include pay and class size. the faculty association says the impasse is the first step toward a possible strike. the association says the walk-out could delay the fall semester. voting through april 27th. breaking news story we told but earlier, the fire reported at a popular san francisco restaurant turns

had ravaged kansas north west oklahoma, nebraska and iowa neighbors came back to their homes to cleanup, while crews searched for survivors in one of the hardest hit areas, woodward, oklahoma many were caught off guard when warning sirens failed to sound after lightning disabled the system. >> i'm shocked there's even anything left. total destruction out here. >> reporter: the tornado that tore through the community left a tragic legacy, five dead, including a father and his two daughters. dozens of homes and buildings leveled, especially in this business district. >> yet, while one office was completely destroyed the one next to it still has picture frames on the wall and a mug still on a desk. trucks carrying food, water, cots and other supplies are headed to the area where more than 8,000 residents are without power. >> rescary first time we've ever been through anything like that
