members of the yacht club told me this afternoon they understand and accept the coast guard's decision to suspend the search. in the meantime they say they're making preparations to pay tribute to those lost in the race. at the racing yacht sits empty and grounded on a rocky shore line, those who knew the four sailors lost say there was no way to predict the 38 foot boat would be swamped by rogue wave autos this is normal conditions and that normal conditions in the ocean are rough. nothing was reported unusual on the race course itself. it happened to be one of the boats in a bad spot at a bad time. >> this is video of the low speed chase in another race posted by a crew member from the san francisco yacht club. saturday, experienced sailors say conditions were typical for that part of the ocean. 12-15 foot swells and 25 naut

winds. the crew members were not tethered to the yacht and not required to be under rules. of the eight on board saturday, three were rescued and one found dead and four remain missing. the coast guard suspended a search for survivors. having covered 5,000 square miles and utilizing boats, planes and helicopters. >> there is no cook book answer. we take into account a variety of factors including weather, water temperatures, and the type of incident. >> transitioning to the possibility we may never recover any of the four tailors lost is difficult to wrap your arms around. >> the area where the yacht is grounded is protected and habitat is part of the refuge.

further follow up by detectives at this time. >> sierra lamar, 15 years old, disappeared a month ago today leaving home for school. detectives believe she was abducted. the family plans to hold a vigil tonight about 20 minutes from now. we're going to bring you a live report for that vigil. >> the teachers at 23 california state university campuses began voting today on whether to authorize a strike. that vote continues two weeks. the union has not been able to reach an agreement with management. abc 7 is in the newsroom with more on what is at stake. >> if the teachers decide to go on strike we're talking about a major disruption to all 23 campuses of the california state university system. a massive strike. at noon, teachers lined up to cast votes on whether to allow

the union to call for a strike. and they're not the only ones. 23 could walk out in sex. >> everybody is going to be affected. and if we don't do something it affects our current and future students. >> teachers asking for a 1% salary increase and say that is not the main stumbling block. they want the university system to support a cap on class sizes. >> how am i going to teach 75-100 studz glents a class? >> most students agree. >> three years ago the class has been full. but more and more i'm getting up in my classes i'm noticing that the classes are getting more p more pack students have a hard time enrolling in most classes.

>> it's harder. there are many people turning and trying to get into the class csu admits it's been an ongoing problem but says in four years, the state has cut $1 billion in funding. forcing all 23 campuses to take dramatic measures. state universities depend on two sources of revenue. what they can get from states and student fees. because the state is contributing less, student tuition increased. in 2007, 2008, tuition was $2772. this year it's up to $5472. >> there is is a csu determined to fund public education on the backs of our students. >> and no one from the california state university administration wanted to talk on camera. a spokesperson gave us a statement you heard.

an update on a fatal shooting. police say a yet to be identified man was shot in a car just before ak at the intersection of buell street and calaveras avenue. this did force the closure of an off ramp from interstate 580. no word yet on when that will reopen. >> petaluma police say the couple at the jernt of a murder suicide had a history of domestic violence. the 43-year-old was shot over the weekend by kevin conover. both died hours later. the shooting happened sunday afternoon as she left the office of her divorce attorney in downtown petta luma. friends dropped off flowers, she was a second grade teacher at meadow elementary school.

good evening, once again, we've been following developments in the search for missing morgan hill teenager sierra lamar. it's been a month now since she was last seen at her home getting ready to leave for school. and we are live now from a vigil in morgan hill marking the sad anniversary. >> yes. and they're calling it an event for hope, you can see behind me people have gathered with pink balloons her favorite color. and as family, friends and volunteers were preparing for

this evening's vigil the sheriff's office team was just several mile as way making more sonar scan images from area lakes. less than an hour ago, sky 7 found the team in coyote creek park. and then, also today county crime lab did give investigators test results from some of the evidence submitted in this case. now, no information is being released except to say crime lab apoll nal sis did provide leads to follow up. the community is marking a one month since she disappeared from her home, there are hundreds of pink balloons and they'll plan on releasing balloon autos this is a event we're showing we're here and fighting and want people to do anything they can.
