we don't want to leave any blank spots out there. we want to make sure we cover the entire pond. >> dive teams and volunteers are pressing ahead with their search for sierra lamar. >> and tonight there is word of new clues in the disappearance of the 15-year-old girl. i'm dan ashley. >> i'm carolyn johnson. investigators say their search will continue. it is focus owed a series of ponds not far from sierra's home. lisa amin gulezian is at the sheriff's office. lisa? >> reporter: carolyn, this will be a very long night for those here at the sheriff's department. they are processing all of that data that they gathered after searching several ponds today.

>> it was a really bright yellow so we got a strong return. >> reporter: robert niaves spends dozens and dozens of hours with scans like these. he is looking for evidence, anything in the sonar shot that could lead to sierra lamar. the 15-year-old disappeared one month ago. >> we don't want to leave any blank spots out there. we want to make sure we cover the entire pond. >> reporter: and these ponds are less than a mile from her home. today divers found two cars in the pond. >> we wanted to make sure they had been there. we will look at them to see if they were there for awhile. >> reporter: as they search for anything out of ordinary underwater, detectives follow-up on new leads coming from the crime lab. some results are in on evidence in this case. >> preliminarily in regards to the evidence that was submitted, it is positive information and positive news to give back that provides the detectives with work to do. >> reporter: very will not say what they found after testing

her card, phone and clothes. they also tested condoms and a box labeled handcuffs that were found by a volunteer searcher. >> this little girl belongs to all of us. just like all of our children belong to us. only god knows where she is. >> reporter: no one has forgotten sierra lamar. the worry sever where, and so are her fliers which is prompting this community to act. he can't walk, but he can drie. that's how he searches up to three times a day for any signs of sierra. >> i hope some days to find her, and then in the back of my mind i hope i don't find her. that means it is over. i am hoping it is not over. >> reporter: and technicians do have a lot of work. they have 12 hours of data to go through tonight and tomorrow they will search for more ponds. live in san jose, lisa amin gulezian, abc7 news.

>> thank you. a small window foraying the yacht off the fairlawns starts tomorrow. if the low speed chase is not recovered in the next few days it will be stopped by the nesting season for birds and the pupping season for seals. it is a protected sanctuary, so wildlife is the top priority. >> once that occurs it precludes any attempt atal vegging -- salvaging the vessel. >> it will will be put on hold to protect then environment. three survive and five died and four bodies are missing. one of the survivors of that accident issued a statement. he was a member of the crew. he wrote, we will spend years looking back on this weekend and asking questions that may never have answers.

he calls this an extremely difficult time of loss and profound sadness. you can leave condolences on a facebook page dedicated to the victims. here are some of the pictures you will find. we have a link at abc7news.com. you will find it under see it on tv. guns themselveses are in the cross hairs. city leaders in pinole voted 5-0 to restrict the common way some people buy firearms. alan wang is live with this story tonight. alan? >> california law limited the number of gun shops? shops in the state, so many rely on gun dealers. there is one less city that allows this to take place outside of the home. >> the proposal to ban the home base gun dealers was brought up after a pinole resident applied for a permit to sell guns and am mow out of his home. they say it would create more targets. the city planning commission

recommended the ban because it was a zoning issue. but gun proponents call it a violation of the second amendment right to bear arms. >> you have surrounding cities that have already banned those. it creates a ban on the second amendment rights. >> even though i am an avid hunter and i own guns it is a zoning item only, and it does not infringe my right of going out to a legal gun store in vacaville or any place else to buy guns or ammunition. >> anything that facilitates the spread of guns is going to increase the probability of violent death in this community. >> some gun proponents who spoke are members of a group who staged the open carry demonstrations in the east bay. one man ridiculed the fear of having a home based gun dealer. they said you don't have to be a deal tore have lots of guns guns and ammo.

>> i know people who have more ammunition than big five in their homes. i probably own more guns than the big 5 near my house. the second amendment rights advocates were out gunned at the council meeting. they were expecting more than a hundred supporters, but only three spoke out. the city council voted 5-0 in favor of the ordinance banning the home base gun dealers. alan wang, abc7 news. >> thanks, alan. uc berkeley may have to dip into academic funds and student fees to help pay for the $321 million renovation at memorial stadium. the project was supposed to be publicly funded. but they have raised $30 un-- $31 million. if the goal is not met, top administrators told the journal they will have to tap already scarce campus resources. it was give and take today for san francisco muni.

the transit system board approved a pilot program giving free rides to low income city kids between the ages of 5 and 17. but it also eliminated free sunday parking. the extra revenue will help pay for the free rides and for fleet maintenance from muni. muni faces a deficit over the next two years. larry flint's hustler mobile is leaving for greener pastures. the strip club on wheels has been rolling through the city advertising. but it ran into trouble in the richmond where it parked overnight. when he found out his constituents were not happy about it, they asked it be relocated and the hustler club says they are taking their act on the road to las vegas. well, the story about the killing of oscar grant is about to become a hollywood movie. up next, the stars that will play grant and his mother in a movie called "fruit veil." >> and billionaire warn buffet buffet -- warren buffet

it looks as though fear has kicked in. he is doing all he can to get rid of the rescue crews. >> that was sky 7 in los angeles. a whale rescue operation has been called off along the southern california coast. you saw it unfold live on abc7 news today at 5:00 if you were with us then. a 40-foot gray whale is tangled in as much as 100 feet of fishing line. rescuers were able to loosen some of it. it appears to be in good condition. before returning to shore they attached three large booies to locate it when the rescue continues in the morning. ?ai a new film is in the works about oscar grant and the days leading to his killing on a bart platform three years ago by a bart police officer.

a big actress will be on this project. not everyone thinks this is a good idea. john alston spoke with the family. >> a production could begin in july. oscar grant's mother says it is her understanding that some of the filming will take place in oakland. the family signed a deal with a producer awhile ago, but the project finally became public today. a rally in front of oakland's city hall to protest the police. one of the speakers was oscar grant's uncle. >> it is a travis stey. >> an independent film is in the works on the killing of oscar grant. it is titled "fruit veil" the place where he was shot on new year's morning on 2009. grant's family hopes the film serves a purpose. >> the police department and the police officers across this country need to be clearly dealt with in a manner that they are doing the wrongs

in the community. >> education. we want people of color to see the disadvantage that we have. we want them to learn from what happened to oscar to try and stop that from happening to anyone else. >> according to the hollywood reporter, the actress slated to play can do johnson is spencer who won an academy award for her role in "the help." >> i am looking forward to that and her doing me well is playing me well. >> the actor now in talks to play grant is reportedly is michael b jordan who appeared in "chronicle." it is the brainchild of ryan cougar who was the writer and director. by phone he declined to talk about it until it was finished. but some don't think the film is a good idea. he is a civil rights attorney. >> the anger has already happened. which it was valid. but why do another up search of that?

>> the film maker was introduced to grant's mother who represented the family in their civil case against bart. grant's mother would not discuss the specifics on the deal with the producer or any possible financial terms. dan? >> john, thanks. john alston reporting. the secret service scandal is growing more tau dree as details emerge. they are reporting the 11 agents being investigated for conduct unbecoming were partying at a high end brothel in columbia. according to a bouncer they were drinking heavily and bragging about working for president obama among total strangers, and then they left with the club's most expensive call girls. >> they could be employees of the local drug cartels. they could be spies planted and eaves dropping to kidnap them. >> abc news says the scandal broke when one of the agents argued over a fee of less than $200. they are being investigated for their ties to this

scandal. they both took to the stand in the property dispute between oracle and google. oracle went first. they are suing claiming they used the java software for the android phone without testing it first. they say oracle considered buying blackberry i can maker rim. blackberry maker. he is expected to testify in depth tomorrow. and the so-called oracle of omaha says he has prostate cancer. he disclosed the diagnosis in an open letter to shareholders. the ceo says he was diagnosed after a routine blood test. that is likely to reignite controversy. a task force warns against the psa testing for men over age

75 because prostate cancer usually grows so slowly in older men it rarely proves fatal. buffet is 81. buffet wrote his condition is, quote, not remotely life-threatening, and he went on to say that "i feel great, as if i were in my normal excellent health." he plans to start a course of radiation treatment in july. mexican authorities raised the alert level for a huge eruption. a lava dome is growing in the crater of the volcano. it has been spewing water vapor and ash leading them to think there is significant growing intensity. people are warned to stay seven miles away. if the alert goes higher evacuations could be ordered. and let's talk about the weather forecast. it will get steamy around here. >> we had a little dries -- drizzle earlier jie. we had some drizzle along the coast and it was reported along the

peninsula. but we do expect toasty temperatures as we head toward the latter part of the workweek. let me show you the view from our camera. this afternoon we had higher clouds and low clouds and temperatures ranging from 52 in pacifica and to 73 degrees in antioch this afternoon. notice the low clouds. they were still around tonight. this was just from about an hour and a half ago. as we look at san francisco sitting under the marine layer, those low clouds are responsible for a little drizzle, and as you look at live doppler 7hd, there is a system passing to the north, but some of the moisture in the clouds, the midand high level clouds are getting picked up. i wouldn't be surprised if we have spotty drizzle in those areas as well. the temperatures are in the 50s. 49 in livermore. and here are the highlights. mostly cloudy with some coastal drizzle and sunny and milder. and we are expecting mid80s inland by the week's end. and this is going to spill over into your weekend. a great looking weekend ahead

especially if you like warm, spring weather. this is the system head together north of us. the rain will stay to the north, but we are seeing a lot of cloud cover as you can see. it is not just the low-level stuff, but the midand high level stuff. those clouds though as you look at the computer animation will clear out. we will see occasional high clouds. the warming that started on monday resumes tomorrow, and then it is only going to get warmer inland on thursday. but thursday the fog may rush back to the coastline. so that will hold your temperatures on thursday along the coast. on friday, everyone warms. most areas in the 40s and 50 degrees in san francisco. you may need those wipers early in the morning with the marine layer and the drizzle around. in the afternoon it is a nice, sunny day in the south bay. 74 in campbell and san jose. on the peninsula, high clouds and a lot of sun. 72 in palo alto. 59 pacifica and 62 half moon bay. a temperature of 60 degrees in

daly city. get up into the north bay and we will see low 70s. santa rosa narks vaw toe. 68 in oakland and san leandro. inland communities you will see numbers in the midto upper 70s range in some areas. 75 in livermore and walnut creek. for the monterey bay, 74 in santa cruz and 76 for you inland in morgan hill. if you are going to the giants game tomorrow night, they play the phillies again. 7:15 and mostly clear conditions. upper 50s, and then the temperatures are dropping into the mid50s. but it is a dry accu-weather seven-day forecast getting warmer each and every day. mid80s by friday, saturday and sunday. mid60s coastline. we will see a little bit of a cooling trend on monday and tuesday. but the warm up will take us into the weekend. >> now we are talking. yet another health benefit apparently from coffee. >> how it could help our eyes. the news continues after this. ñsñsñsñsñsñsñsñsntntntnc

106-year-old wendy hook and george calicci and william dumonte appeared via skip. then it was off to john's grill. it will be marked at 5:11 at market. the fountain was a meeting po nie t for many after the quake hit. new research shows that caffeine might boost a person's ability to produce tears. a team at the university of tokyo medical school says their hope may improve the treatment of dry eye syndrome. dry eye is an annoyance, but it can develop into a disease that threatens the vision. it is not definitive. they caution that decaffeinated beverages rob the body of moisture and can exacerbate the dry eye syndrome. >> and it makes larry edbier than it used to. edgier than it used to. with brian wilson hurt, who closes for the giants now?

outfield assists. don't run on him. you will get down down in the fourth. he is hugging the right field line and that is gone. 1-0a's. six strong and he left the game trailing 2-1, but the a's explode. reddick and a ground rule double . it is a 3-2 lead. it is a base hit to left and cocoa crisp scores and so does reddick. the a's win it 5-3. and get this. 49-year-old pitcher jaime moyer with his third attempt at becoming the oldest pitcher to win a game in major league baseball history. it was a double play against his best friend in san diego. moyer goes 7 innings in the rockies victory, his 268th victory at age 49. and there is his very happy wife. bubba watson's historic shot that basically won the masters will never be forgotten. a new angle on history to refresh your memory. bubba watson was on the second playoff hole stuck among the
