we begin with breaking news. "l.a. times" just posted new photographs online that the paper says shows u.s. soldiers posing with the remains of suicide bombers. the pictures were taken in 2010 in afghanistan. these are the pictures there's already reaction from u.s. military. a commander in afghanistan is condemning the photos. we've taken out some pictures there of the sensitive matters that were shown. general allen says the actions undermine the daily sacrifices of thousands of troops. he is promising a thorough investigation. we'll continue to follow this breaking story throughout the morning and on our website, abc7news.com. uc berkeley facing a new financial threat. this time over the pricey renovation of its football stadium. fundraising has fallen way

short of the goal line and that could force students to take a new hit. katie marzullo is live at memorial stadium. >> reporter: good morning. the "wall street journal" did the math. the original renovations were supposed to cost 321 million dollars. as of december the university had only raised 31 million dollars. huge discrepancy. the question is where is the rest of the money going to come from? the "wall street journal" quoting campus officials who say most likely from campus funds. guess what money is included in campus funds? students' fees. not new fees, but moving money that would otherwise be used for academics this is sure to cause trouble among students. they are going to be mad. maybe they have the right. tuition for them went up 17% last year that's following the state budget cuts and hikes are scheduled for the next four years. they could be between 8 and 16%. for the university's part they

say they had to renovate the stadium it lights on a faultline they say a lot of it was for safety reasons. 70% they say of the renovations are for earthquake safety reasons. the original plan to use private money was supposed to come from endowments and naming rights, not renaming the memorial coliseum but naming parts of it. i have to apologize to kristen sze and my sister emily this morning, when i say this, that fell through because the team is not that good and university officials are admitting if the football team was better maybe people would have been more willing to pay for those seats. katie marzullo, abc7 news. new this morning, the petaluma teacher who was shot by her estranged husband sunday had been didn't add emergency restraining order last week. the 43-year-old mother of four was gunned down outside her divorce attorney's office where she had gone for help in

obtaining a temporary restraining order. petaluma police say they had five contacts with the couple in the past 12 months, including family disbush banses, -- [ unintelligible ] pinole -- [ unintelligible ] you've got surrounding cities that have already banned those. that does equate to a ban on your second amendment rights. >> [ unintelligible ] i think it is a zoning item only it does not infringe my right of going out to a legal gun store.

last night it was voted unanimous to approve a deal that would bring thousands more employees to its headquarters. menlo park will get millions in taxes and money for capital improvement. in antioch investigators trying to determine the cause of an apartment fire that damaged eight homes the fire started after 9:00 last night. it took nearly 40 firefighters a half hour to knock the flames down. six apartments were severely damaged by smoke and fire two others have water and spoke damage no word on how many were displaced. the fire chief says nobody was injured, two were taken to the hospital as a precaution. the san francisco police department is opening an investigation into a yacht racing accident off the farallon islands. the vessel crashed after being

hit by two large waves saturday. one boater was killed, four are missing and presumed dead. three were rescued. the farallons belong to the city of san francisco, police are in charge of any accident investigations. narrow window for salvaging the low speed chase opens this morning. the effort has to be stopped one the nesting season for birds and pupping season for seals begins, which is soon. the low speed chase has to be airlifted off the rocks to protect the environment. we are learning new details of an growing prostitution scandal involving the secret service. investigators say u.s. agents and military personnel checked at least 20 women into their hotel rooms before president obama arrived in colombia for a summit last week. the secret service director says 11 agents and 10 military personnel under investigation are telling different stories. he has dispatched more investigators to colombia to interview the women. the accused agents will be

this morning investigators sent to colombia as the probe into a prostitution scandal involving the secret service grows deeper. lawmakers are asking whether the women had access to sensitive information that could have dazed president obama's security. that money -- that could have jeopardized president obama's security? >> reporter: this scandal keeps growing. key members of congress say alleged behavior like this could put the president's safety at risk. investigators are in colombia liking for people to talk to, looking for witnesses. the secret service agents accused of soliciting prostitutes are about to face serious heat. the accused agents will be forced to take lie detector tests about their alleged mis-- misbehavior in colombia. this morning u.s. inspectors are on the ground interviewing witnesses and collecting hotel video. sources say many of the suspected prostitutes have been identified and will be interviewed. >> when you bring a guest into

looks now. major accident just reported this was seven minutes ago by a traffic spotter. traffic is moving around 34 miles an hour in the area. looks like the traffic spotter just got past that a little beyond that accident. now he's moving at over 40 miles an hour. but, just before this as well some folks did report very heavy traffic approaching the scene. apparently someone call the chp, multiple vehicle injury accident air bags, chp en route. the other hot spot is highway 92, there was an injury crash as well overturned accident reported in the westbound direction. another person reported it as well. it is blocking a lane, this person is now headed around 25 miles an hour, looking like that person is headed eastbound.
