center now. you can see moving less than 10 miles an hour. drive time increasing causing 5 to 10 minute delays i think it is going to get worse. westbound 92 injury crash near highway 35 causing slowing eastbound towards skyline. breaking news we've been following this morning. "los angeles times" posted graphic new pictures within the last hour showing u.s. soldiers posing with the remains of suicide bombers. this is one of those pictures the times says the pictures were taken in 2010 in afghanistan. the commander of coalition forces in afghanistan is condemning these photos. general allen says the actions undermine the daily sacrifices of thousands of troops he's promising a thorough investigation. the new photos come as the u.s. military continues to deal with a series of high profile converse sees connected to the war --

controversies connected to the war including a previous controversy and deli protest in afghanistan after accidental burning of copies of qur'an by u.s. troops. we'll continue to follow this story throughout the morning and on abc7news.com. it wasmko÷ 106 years ago ths morning that san francisco was awakened by a major effort quake that would change the look of the city forever this morning hundreds have gathered to honor the victims and the survivors of that massive quake. amy hollyfield joins us from 20th and church where crowds have just finished their second memorial moment of the morning. you don't know this, but that fire hydrant saved my grandparents' home. >> reporter: oh terry what a significant piece of history, thank you for sharing that, i don't have anything like that to bring to the table. you should be out here. we are enjoying a moving memorial service this morning we started on market now we are at 20th and church to pay tribute to a fire hydrant this morning, an earthquake survivor helped pay tribute to

that fire hydrant this is win any hook. she helped give it, -- this is winne hook. she helped give it a new coat of paint it is credited with saving the mission district and terry's grandparents home. this annual event brings out dignataries the few remaining survivors and other residents, some in costume and one attendee explained why. >> it is important to let everybody know, this went on and this great tragedy that happened to this city and the fact that nobody gave up. we're surrounded by the legacy of 1906. the buildings, the people that live here the spirit of this city are direct relation to that event. >> reporter: the festivities started on market street this morning, two survivors were difficult event in, in a 1931 lincoln to the ceremony at

lotta's fountain the spot where survivors would meet after the quake and find their loved ones there. was a moment of silence at 5:11 this morning the exact moment the quake hit. then the fire sirens rang out to remember that moment, 3,000 people died in that earthquake in 1906. the commemoration will move over to lefty o'douls where the survivors, only a couple left, will be honored and treated to breakfast. amy hollyfield, abc7 news. >> i'll see you at lefty's in a little bit. just kidding. uc berkeley might have to dip into academic funds and student fees to pay for the renovation of memorial stadium. the project was supposed to be publicly funded. the "wall street journal" reports the school has only raised 31 million of the 270 million dollars it expected to generate from seat licenses and naming rights. if the goal is not met administrators told the journal they will have to tap

campus resources. divers will start searching four more south bay ponds and volunteers will be back out looking for any signs of sierra lamar. the 15-year-old morgan hill girl has been missing for more than a month. techs are pouring over data from sonar scans. they are looking for anything out of the ordinary. yesterday divers found two cars in the ponds. detectives are following up on new leads from the crime lab's analysis of evidence. the petaluma teacher shot to death by her estranged husband had been denied a restraining or. she was gunned down outside her divorce attorney's office where she had gone for help obtaining a temporary restraining order. petaluma police say they've had five contacts with the couple in the past 12 months.

san francisco agency that oversees muni has approved a plan to enforce marking -- to enforce parking meters on sundays from noon to 6 p.m.. it will go into effect next year. the agency is facing projected 53 million dollar shortfall over the next two years. the transit system board approved a pilot program granting free rides on city buses and street cars to low income youngsters. city residents must meet certain income requirements and be under eight toon to qualify. talk about -- news you can use mike's forecast advising us good times are coming. >> mike is here. look at the 24 hour temperature change.

minutes. lots of hot spots now thank you. new this morning, california will test an hiv prevention pill in an attempt to slow the spread of the disease. 700 southern california gay and bisexual men and transgender women who are at high risk for contracting hiv but not infected with the disease will will be described two drug regimen. researchers at the state's hiv-aids research program hope the drug will reduce risk of contracting the disease. the pills being used to treat people already infected with hiv. for all the early birds out there new research encourages you to get back into bed. a study boston's brigham and women's hospital finds people who get fewer than five hours of sleep a night have an increased risk of type two diabetes when you shraoefp can affect your health. the study found people who sleep at varying times of the day and night have different

quoting university officials says the money could come from campus funds that includes students'ties not new fees, but moving fees that might otherwise be used for academics staoufpl dens are sure to be outraged if it comes to pass they are already paying more for tuition tuition up 17% last year in the wake of state budget cuts to the university and the hikes are going to keep coming for the next four years tuition is expected to go up between 8 and 16%. the university's part they say they had to renovate the stadium it lights on top of a fault they say the majority is for safety, 70% of the renovations are for earthquake safety reasons. the private endowments that was supposed to pay for the bulk of the renovation the university was hoping it would come from seating endowments and naming rights, but the team hasn't been doing that well so not as many people bid
