>> check this out. a live look at a cool spot on a hot day. the crowds out at santa cruz, looking for relief from the heat. >> alan: a crowded spot in san francisco, ocean beach. looking out, traffic was a about slow going as people flock here to take advantage of the sand and surf. >> alan: temperatures were 15 degrees above normal in some areas today, and with a change in temperature came a change in

activities. lisa amin gulezian explains. >> lisa: nothing goes better with a day like this. >> ice cream. the best part. we came here for lunch but got ice cream. >> it was packed. ice cream was on 0 lot of minds and so was getting out to join the day. >> started out with ice coffee this morning, and then went for a run and now we're going to eat. >> i do not remember the last time it was this gorgeous. >> lisa: gorgeous but hot. parts of the south bay hit 90 degrees. which is i would pools were popular place to be. but for many it wasn't just about relaxing, it was all about work and cleaning up the environment for earth day. >> it's a bit of a holiday. a way to -- you have washington or seize sar chavez, save the earth. >> earth day events took place

all over the bay area, here volunteers pulled out an acre's worth of scotch broom. a weed that is overtake thingside. >> it's rewarding when you step back and see the work you have done. it's a nice feeling. >> lisa: earth day is also about education. in el cerrito, people learned how to grow vegetables, and in oakland, students learned a very important lesson about fire prevention. they helped remove tree limbs, real hazards now that fire season is here. >> if we lower the ground fuel and limb up the trees half of the battle is done. >> a fight no one wants to lose. in oakland, lisa amin gulezian, abc-7 news. >> alan: a look at the current temperatures, let's check in with frances dinglasan, in for leigh glaser. >> frances: take a look at these numbers. we are just what you're saying, well above normal in quite a few

locations, and just clicked ahead a little too fast for you. here's the numbers. santa rosa, 87 degrees right now. normally we're at 70 this time of year. san francisco, it's 74 degrees, and we're normally at 63. and san jose, at 89 degrees. normal temperature in san jose is 71. so, we are talking 18 degrees above normal. definitely hit 90s as well. i was looking at some record-breaking temperatures. doesn't look like we broke any record but certainly got near that. now, i want to let you know we have big changes ahead, and i'll show you them in the forecast. >> ama: pg&e is investigating after a man died from touching a live 12,000-volt power line in san mateo. pg&e says a mylar balloon flew into the power line, causing an

explosion, and knocked a transmission lined lean line to the ground. a neighbor tried to move the downed line. he died in the hospital. pg&e reminds people to never touch a downed power line, always call 9-1-1 then pg&e. >> oakland police are investigating after an early morning shooting left a man dead. at this point police only say the victim is male. they aren't releasing his age or identity. >> alan: in santa clara county right now specialized teams are taking part in a day-long search for sierra lamar, the 15-year-old vanished a month ago on her way to catch a school bus. a helicopter, offroad teams and search and rescue crews with rock-climbing experience or focusing on remote areas. agencies across the bay area are assisting the sheriff's department. and a k-9 unit is also involved. >> we have conducted searches in this area in the past about we

didn't focus too much on areas outside the flat lands, so if search and rescue member gets constant fronted with rocks or hillsides, they're ready to repel and do rock climbing to rule certain areas out. >> alan: there were no new leads that triggered the search which was planned in advance. it will continue until night fall. >> ama: preparations are underway for a memorial in honor of the yacht crew members who died during the accident. the san francisco yacht club will pay tribute to the five crew members who lost their lives last week in the accident at the farallon eyeland. large waves flipped the boot over and ran it aground. three crew members were rescued. yesterday, in tiburon, there was a tribute to those who died. yachtsmen will meet up at 7:00 by angel island.

the boat involved in the crash will be retrieved by a salvage crew next week. >> alan: in san francisco, parents, residents, and merchants are trying to stop another pot club from opening up in their neighborhood. dozens held a rally out the green cross today. one of three new medical marijuana dispensaries. protesters say two other shops have already opened in the area. >> we want to make sure that the city understand that there's a huge concern on too many pot clubs around this area. >> alan: the protest comes a day after supporters of legalizing marijuana celebrated 420, or april 20th, which is commonly known as national weed day. >> ama: alameda county supervisor, nadia lock 'er, is talking about the troubles

causing her to make a decision. >> i need to really focus on recovery from both the assault that happened in the relationship, my heart and my psyche. >> ama: this interview was conducted at her home in february, she said she was assaulted by an ex-boyfriend, then she went into rehab for alcoholism and addiction. there were reports of a sex tape, suspicious visits to the ex-boyfriend in jail, and an e-mail for her account saying her husband hat supplied her with drugs. locyyear denies sending the e-mail. the board of supervisors will vote to whether or not for accept her relation nation. pelosi calls it disgusting, referring to the secret service

>> ama: in the ongoing secret service prostitution scandal the head of the agency was called to the oval office. mark sullivan briefed president obama and three more secret service agents were forced out for a total of six, five others are under investigation. the military is investigating 11 of its own as well. nancy pelosi says she is satisfied with the secret service investigation so far and believes most agents are dedicated to their jobs. pelosi that some of them would tarnish the image is really

disgusting. i don't understand. but in any event, i'm sure there will be about -- be a full investigation and if we're not satisfied, congress will look further. >> ama: a government official said more than 200 people have been interviewed so far. agents and military service members of accused of hiring prostitutes and bringing them back to a hole ahead of president obama's arrival. >> alan: the faa is investigating an accident on the tarmac at lax international airport after two planed collided on the ground. last night a sky west plane preparing to take off for palm spring struck the wing of a parked plane. there were 28 passengers and crew aboard but no one was hurt. >> ama: congress is poised to reject funding for the high-speed rail project but the sacramento bereports it's not necessarily the end of the line for high-speed rail.

they have already received funding to build the first leg and the chairman of the authority says he is not surprised more money was left off for next year but the long-term plan is built on the expectation of the feds kicking in more. >> alan: a hole in the wall that became a san francisco institution, the older of one of the city's oldest restaurants say they're not ready to close despite what the city says. >> ama: today's warmer temperatures are coming to an end. frances dinglasan says we'll have big changes in the forecast ahead.

>> alan: the health department shut down a beloved san francisco restaurant after finding violations including rodent activity. but that didn't stop people from packing the sam woo restaurant

for one last meal. the restaurant has been serving customers in china town since 1907. the ho family which owns the restaurant says the eatery is too old and requires a massive overhaul but they're going to present a plan to bring the restaurant up to code at the city's health department hearing on tuesday. >> ama: want to start dialing a one plus the area code before calling any number in the 408 area co. -- code. that will soon be used in the south bay. beginning november 20th. the 669 area code will be added in the area covered by 408. anyone who gets new service or an additional line will get the new area code. people with the 408 number have to use the 1 and the seven-digit number when making all calls, even to phones in they're open area code. it's predicted the 408 area code will run out of numbers at the end of this year.

>> alan: a blind feline has found a home in the desert. a sea lion named big guy has been at the marine mammal center ever since he was found injured more than a year ago. he has been nursed back to health but because he is partially blind he went be heading back into in the wild. instead he will share an $18 million habitat with another partially blind sea line in salt lake's zoo. >> frances: at least we got enjoy another day. this is gorgeous. a live view. we're looking out for the golden gate bridge. there are coastal clouds moving in. we do have some big changes on the way. but check out the temperatures right now. i mean, they're incredibly warm. in antioch, 90 degrees. los good gatos, 92.

san francisco, 70s today. 72. still hanging on to the warmth. cooler in half moon bay at 59. compared to yesterday at this time, there are quite a few locations that did increase a lot in terms of temperature. especially in hey -- hayward. and now, tomorrow, we're going to see the opposite effect. temperatures will be coming down by ten degrees, even 15 degrees in some locations so mainly clear overnight for everybody, except for right along the coast. that's where we see the stratus clouds moving in. it will be sun andy warm again but it is going to be cooler, and then we have a chance of rain heading our way this week. hard to believe. we have this area of high pressure and this air is circulating clockwise. we'll see warmth build through the day, but this area of low pressure with the air circumstance hitting cows clockwise is going to start to

push in and the storm, the cutoff low will bring us a chance of rain mid-week, looking like wednesday night into thursday. here's a look at the satellite image. you notice the stratus clouds from the coast. they're going to make there their way in and we'll see southerly winds tomorrow and increased sea breeze, and that brings temperatures down for us around the bay area, but overnight lows still fairly mild. we're in the 50s. no 40s tomorrow morning. 53 in san francisco. 58 in san jose. look for 57 in concord. so mild temperatures, and even though we will warm up, we just won't see a lot of the 90s from tonight. but very comfortable in san jose. sunshine. 76 in sunny veil. also along the coast, look for partly cloudy conditions so half moon bay in the 60s. along the peninsula, 76 in redwood city.

san francisco having a hard time getting up to 70 degrees tomorrow, and then in the north bay, we'll see mild conditions as well, temperatures up to 79 in calistoga. look for low to mid-70s in the east bay, and then we won't see 90s but we'll get into the mid-80s in the interior valleys, through livermore and brent wood, up to 86 degrees and look for upper 70s. santa cruz, 68. so here's your accuweather seven-day forecast. a big cooling trend on the way. we'll drop down to near average by tuesday. chance of showers into wednesday, and then rain likely for everyone thursday but we have a nice weekend ahead. >> ama: thank you, frances. >> alan: the great colin rush filling in for shu. a great day for baseball. >> a couple -- one of the strangest endings to a giants
