block initiative hrks her plan to reduce violence in the city of oakland. today she and chief jordan will move together to present a plan to let the city know they're on the same place to reduce crime in the city. the 100 block initiative introduced to the city in 2011 designed to do two major things, fight violence, crime in the danger parts of oak skplnd focus on the use of illegal weapons, officials have said 90% of the violent crime takes place in a 100 block area. this is an issue thrust back into the spotlight what i man was shot in west oakland. yesterday, three people were shot in east oakland, two teen boys who weren't intended targets and a man hit in the chest by a stray bullet. police say mer than 40 shots were fired n september, 2011 the city received a federal grant of $10.7 million to hire officers.

the grants designed to provide 100% funding for salaries and benefits of the rehired full-time officers over a three-year period. but it's the shifting of the officers to the city high crime areas that is leaving other neighborhoods with fewer officers that faced tough criticism. the city is operating with roughly 650 officers, 25% less men and women in blue to patrol streets than just two yearsing ayoi and reveal the crime rate for serious crimes is also up 21% compared to the same time last year. >> there is right now our officers are struggling and there is only 650 officers. that is 25% less than we were just two years ago. crime is up in double digits nchl real terms this is half of what is needed to police oakland. >> and there is a the city

have been filed against a bp official over the gulf oil spill. kurt knicks charged with two counts of obstructing justice, prosecutors claim he deleted e mails related to this spill. two years after the oil spill the first criminal charges have been filed. the former bp engineer was arrested today on two counts of obstructing justice accused of deleting 300 text message that's show some officials knew massive amount of oil gushing into the gulf but lied to the public about it. the government says there is a text message from may, 20 so he estimated that 15,000 barrels of oil per day were leaking. not 5,000 the company was saying publicly.
