people came out and surrendered and they were running a smart operation inside this normal-looking warehouse. the bust came as a shock to some of the people who work next to this warehouse on 89th street in oakland. they say they see suspicious activity. police tell us they've been doing surveillance on this place for several weeks. overnight the s.w.a.t. team went in and discovered more than 1,000 marijuana plants. officers called it a very sophisticated grow operation. they arrested 11 people. sergio works next door and didn't suspect a thing. >> i just work i don't see anything. >> reporter: bob floyd across the street had his suspicions. not because he saw anything, but because of something else he sensed. >> you knew because you could smell it now and then. >> reporter: so he wasn't surprised but was shocked to

hear about the arrests. >> the 11 people is the big thing. i never saw 11 people go in and out of there. you would think would you see more groceries or something going in and out. i don't know when they did it, but they didn't do during the day. >> reporter: they managed to get groceries in a source tells us there was a break room for workers complete with snacks, video games and a place to grab a nab. police say those arrested did not put up a fight. officers confiscated several á pit bulls. >> 9:00 at night here you can hear gunshots. it is oakland. >> reporter: there is an officer here now but for a while it was unmanned and some people broke in to this warehouse this morning to try to get whatever police left. the officer tells us they grabbed some trash bags full of shake the dead leaves that

fall off marijuana essentially trash. now he's going to watch over this place until they can get it bored up. a source tells me -- it boarded up. a source tells me it looks like the dea will be taking over because it was such a large operation. amy hollyfield, abc7 news. novato police trying to find the person who opened fire on a house last night while a family was inside around dinnertime. fortunately, nobody was hurt. right now that attack is a mystery itch >> reporter: a really scary mystery. -- police still trying to figure out why someone would fire on this home at least 10 times, according to police you can see bull lot holes in the window. the home -- the bullet holes in the window. a seemingly nice couple in a quiet neighborhood. the bullet holes shattered the blissful life they've shared

last night to keep the schools open, against the recommendation of the superintendent who just last week released a report urging the closures. the two schools will have smaller student populations next year when the 6th grade is shifted to a nearby middle school. right now, new secret service scandal may be erupting. investigators checking reports that agents in el salvador hired prostitutes. they were there last year in advance of a presidential visit. a seattle station is reporting agents received sexual favors from strippers and took prostitutes to hotel rooms. that report came hours after secretary napolitano told lawmakers a similar incident this month in colombia was isolated. so far eight agents have lost their jobs over the colombia strip club and prostitute scandal. counterterrorism officials say there is no credible or specific threat to the u.s. related to the upcoming
