sawtionz. >> coast guard is really watching. it's one of the bi biggest jobs certainly in this area that they have ever had. >> tonight the coast guard tak takes dramatic action to keep bay area sailors safe. good evening everyone. >> all offshore yacht racing suspended following the disaster at the farallons that killed 5 people. we are life tonight at the st. francis yacht club in san francisco with the story. >>reporter: dan, the suspension caught a lot of the yacht racers off guard especially considering there is a race coming up this weekend. however the coast guard wants to prevent another tragedy. this video was taken from the santa cruz 50 deception during the full crew farallons race on april 14. 5 crew members low speed chase died that indicate after the boat ran aground on the farallons. coast guard wants an investigation into what happened so it is

temporarily suspended all permit for offshore races. >> initial reaction was one of surprise because everybody was planning ongoing on this race. once we understood what was happening i think l it makes a lot of sense. >>reporter: he was in that race about 30 minutes behind the low speed chase. he believes the offshore suspension also has to do with the impending america's cup race. >> we have to have the a racing community both in the bay and out the bay that is safe and the coast guard is really watching. it's going to be one of the biggest jobs certainly in this area they have ever ha had. >>reporter: safety something the yachting community takes seriously. >> we already have very extensive and strict safety regulations within our organization that are far in excess of what the coast guard requires. >>reporter: president of the offshore yacht racing association of san francisco bay says reaction to the suspension is mixed as it comes

to get married on saturday at the historic presidio chapel but then cal-trans announced the demolition involving 40 wrecking cranes working 24 hours a day right next to the wedding. >> i literally thought my leg were his going to give out. i just didn't think would it happen to us. >>reporter: couple worked fast and were able to secure a new church and second floor event space at the ferry building. sent out a mass e-mail announc announcing the change. jerrad says not quite how emily post warm front done it but the family and friends certainly understand. last cars will drive down doyle drive-by 8 tomorrow night and then all access to that road will be shut off. the primary alternate route to get to the golden gate is 19 avenue park presidio. richmond san rafael bridge also an option to get to the and from marin but whichever route you take you can expect heavy traffic all weekend long. as john mentioned another option would be to leaf your car at home and take the ferry across the bay. golden gate ferry operates twice as many trips as usual

steak. >>reporter: here they are. our fillet. >> here we have a not so new york steak. >>reporter: in the pan and on to the table. >> it tastes lake meat. >>reporter: our humble stew meat now 25 dollar a pound prime. this is generally recognized as safe. it's okay to eat cooked meat glued but hears the problem. the outside of a piece of meat comes in contact with a lot of bacteria. making its way from slaughter house to table. usually cook ago steak on the outside will kill all that off. the center of a single cut of steak is sterile. that's why you can eat it rare but glued piece office meat together and now bacteria like e.coli can be on the inside. >> say somebody wants that fillet steak rare, the center temperature is not going to reach the temperature that will actually kill the bacteria and

that's also really, really happy environment for things that can kill you. >>reporter: pinning down who is using the glue isn't easy. one meat company owner says it's a common practice and the most glue product by far fillet destined for the food service industry. we confirmed this with an stroo trade group. meat glue is common where fillet is serve entered bulk at restaurants, banquet, cafeteria or hotel. >> you ask yourself how can they make money selling these cheap steak all day long and that look really nice and this is one way of doing it. >>reporter: usda says the glue must appear on ingredient label in addition to terms lick formed or reformed meat but that is the second problem. if you are eating glued meat at banquet or restaurant you are not likely to see reformed meat on the menu you would never know. we asked the meat lobby

in washington about that. >> you bring us a valid point and they may not see the label but what they ought to do is they have concerns and we understand that consumers they want to understand where the food is coming from. they should ask the wait staff. >> hasn't reached a point where people generally are aware of it. i think it's primarily because like pink slime nobody knew where it was. >>reporter: food safety attorney says meat glue is used more than you think. and the meat industry isn't giving consumers the whole picture. >> i think what the fear is is that the public will look at the information and go i don't want to eat that. >>reporter: now people inside the meat industry tell us this is so common if you are eating someplace serving a lot of fillet at cheap price it could be glued meat. continue eat it rare. make sure it is cooked through to kill the bacteria that might be inside. >> rather eye opening. >> good to know about.
