the gruesome murders knew their killer, that is why the killer was allowed into the house that night. five bodies were found and violence and bloody carnage happened the night before. the victims, their daughter, their son and his wife. >>. >> steve chen is married to the only member of the family that is now living. a daughter who discovered the bodies when she and their 12-year-old child went to the home the morning after the murders. he showed us pictures of the victims placed in a homemade altar in the living room. they had been bludgeoned to death by the killer, police forensics investigateors removed evidence from the house. but the two-story home is the way it was the day after the murders. bloodstains covering the

floors. several law enforcement agencies have given abc 7 the following chronology of what happened. saying the suspect knew both lay and his wife. le hired him as a plumber last year. sources say the first to be killed her body was found on the first floor, then likely murdered vince yaents parents, then went up the stairs and into their daughter's bedroom. he bludgeoned her to death. police say he waited for vincent le to come home. the body found near the front door. sources say before killing him, the murder receivered half of le's hand with what is described as a sharp-edged weapon. after it was over, he washed himself in the bathroom, then wiped bleach over light switches and door handles to remove fingerprints.

the killer poured bleach and paint on the floors and turned on facets to flood the rooms, hoping to destroy evidence. well, steve chen, the person who showed us the house and his wife says that he and his wife want nothing to do with this house, they want the bank to take this house back to spare them of the ugly memories. they owe a large mortgage. tonight there is unanswered questions. we'll tell what you led police to the suspect. >> we'll see you at 6:00. >> and the windows at the piedmont apartments are covered up. residents dents are still living and turning their apartments into stale, potentially dangerous place. this is not far from kaiser hospital. abc 7 news reporter joins us now live from the building with the story. sergio? >> and the residents tell me they're quite happy about the renovations and say it's

actually been something welcome. and and and the problem is that there are still people living inside of the building. >> in the last four days this rack has gone up and windows have been boarded over. the renovation is underway. there are still people living inside of the building. >> and windows didn't have air on them. >> did you give permission to go in? >> no. we did not. they come in and all of our tvs were moved away from the balcony and everything was moved and boarded up when they got home. >> this is a look inside some of the apartments. the windows are boarded up. residents say plywood used chems -- smells like chemical glues. >> smells really bad.

very suffocating and ugly smell. 50 they became frustrated and a melee nearly sparked when a group tried to show homes but managers said we're not allowed in the office. i was refered to the president of the developer who bought this building last month. >> i don't to take way from concerns or make it sound like we feel like they're concerns aren't valid. we're addressing things as they come to us. >> and i spent about an hour and a half on the phone with the developer who says he's committed to making sure that everything is made right as this continues. he says if a $10 million project and part of the thing is that it is depending on a quick time schedule. very checked in with the city and they've since issued a stop work order on this project because they say there is not enough ventilation to a

lot of the units being affected. >> thank you and now, investigators are trying to determine if a fire in an apartment building was intentionly -- intentionally set by a tenant. one person was sent to the hospital. firefighters felt it was safer to keep some residents inside rather than try to he vac' wait them. at least two apartments on the 8th floor were damaged and several more also have water damage. >> the brother of a 49ers football player is being charged with an assault in washington, d.c. that took place last night and could end up facing murder charges. police say michael davis struck a 19-year-old woman in the head with a hammer not far from where a murder took place. investigators say none of the victims knew one another and suffered head wounds and were attacked suddenly. the tourist killed in the same area tuesday night was a

6-year-old -- 66-year-old man from denver, vernon davis tweeted just got a disturbing call. a good day gone bad. hopefully he wasn't involved. >> a nine-hour standoff is finally over. a lot of questions remain. there is a s.w.a.t. team surrounded the house. and abc 7 news is live in san jose with more on what happened next. >> this is still an active police investigation. the team has left. police initially had information that the person inside of the home had weapons, and firearms, that is what ruled out the unit. three schools in the area were put on a modified shemter in place meaning kids couldn't go outside until this area was being safe around 11:00 this morning. >> this house is the center of a nine-hour standoff it and

stands out for others. a family friend says two brothers live here, property and business records indicate roger and gary ran a plumbing business from the home. >> gary takes in a lot of homeless people, and helps homeless guys out and kids that are homeless he'll take in and help them out. get them on their feet. he's a good guy. >> the police got a 911 call from the home and that person died at the hospital. with police arrived shortly before 2:00 this morning the people in the house went into a lock down mode. >> there is no indication in residents being held hostage. >> and after nine hours, he came out and police are now questioning everyone inside about the stabbing. >> they're looking at the house for weapons and evidence

to determine if it's a crime scene. >> police have not identified anyone involved or victims which leaves a lot of unanswered questions. >> i'm praying but i haven't got that news yet. i just hope it isn't him. i'll pray for him. >> the victim is not gary though we do know the name of the victim. his family has not been notified so we're not releasing that information. gary and roger have both been released from police custody. in san jose, abc 7 news. >> a ride turned into a scary ordeal, oned at gun point and forced into the trunk of the cab. he picked up three men in their 20s last night. they wanted the driver to took them to antioch where they pulled out a gun. the driver told police he was in the trunk about an hour

while captors drove around, arguing over what to do with him. >> obviously you could be traumatized under the circumstanceses and there is no physical injuries whatsoever. >> police found the taxi in oakland this morning near 83rd avenue. they're hoping to find evidence linking to the suspect to the cab. the driver had only been with the company for a few months. >> we're only hours away from the weekend closure of doyle drive in what could be a traffic nightmare around the bay. the main artery will be closed starting at 8:00 tonight. and we're live where the city is developing. >> like the tear down of the embarcadero highway structure, doyle drive is coming down ever. the doyle in its place will be much better views and a much safer roadway but will be a

messy, noisy project. there are rangers and police handing out ear plugs to people in the presidio. >> this hydraulic equipment is lined up and ready to go. a surface level street will be completed and will be a detour while next of the parkway is completed. caltrans is worried with the bridge open, but doyle drive closed there could be major traffic congestion on streets leading to, and from the bridge. chrissy field is a major weekend draw for locals and visitors and while the locals might have heard about this closure, out of towners might not. national park service says this weekend will be a lot less fun and much harder to have a conversation. >> as far as what rangers are

>> we're up the spot where it happened. the crash on wednesday now up loaded on you tube. this lead cyclest is on a training ride, and he caught this. there is a 1995 black acura takes out both riders and then speeds away. there it is again in realtime. incredibly, neither was seriously hurt but the driver of the acura never knew that. video techs were able to freeze the picture enhance the plate and get a number. the car is registered to a 43-year-old. his parents house in alameda. i spoke with his parents who told me their son was not driving and had reported his car stolen. but he reported the theft wednesday night, sometime after the accident.
