this morning, doyle drive is bag thing of the past. the traffic jams are in our immediate future. they are racing to get it taken care of. we'll show you how to get around the doyle drive tear down. i'm terry mcsweeney. that massive effort is underway to demolish the old skyway. hopefully by monday morning's commute it will be ready. weekend drivers will want to take detours around this project. there are lots of detours to know about and lots of destruction going on. let's check in with frances,

frances dinglasan to find out about it. >> thank you. traffic is light right now. if you need to get in and out of marin county and into san francisco, park presidio boulevard is your best bet. here is a look at the traffic. it's going to be quiet on the road. here is a live look at park presidio boulevard. there is some confusion as to whether you can make a left turn as you head southbound on to geary or to california. we'll try to sort that out for you as the morning continues. we need to know if it is going to stay nice and dry. and lots of other people want to go to the beaches and here the to parks. here a lisa argen. >> lisa: we're looking at cool numbers, 48 in napa.

49 in fairfield. temperatures about 2-35 degrees warmer in most spots. that will be the trend. we'll continue to warm up. the reason being the storm track is well to the north. high pressure is building in and the fog is at a minimum. we'll have a sea breeze and breezy especially along the coast. the demolition of doyle drive is expected to continue up to 5:00 a.m. monday for 57 hours. the heavy equipment is pulverizing the structure that stood for 75 years. here is a report from the construction site. >> reporter: finally may be the best word to describe the demolition of doyle drive. >> it's dramatic and history making. >> that is what everyone is talking about. hammers is tearing to it pieces. it begin before 8:00 with a few pieces of equipment but quickly

turned out into a large effort. >> it's what they are used on the deck and there will be bib clip there's take down columns and other excavators and enormous amount of equipment. >> reporter: an awesome sight for anyone nearby. >> i think it's kind of cool. it's been here forever. it's good to see it go. what they are going to be build is going to be beautiful. >> reporter: also they will be paving it and striping it. what is that is going on they will bring down the old road until doyle drive is no more. this is 57 hours straight of demolition work going on that. is two days and nine hours until the next shift comes in at 6:00 a.m. a busy night and busy weekend but so far, everything is going according to plan.

>> terry: frances was mentioning drivers having to take detours around that. southbound traffic on park presidio is being allowed to turn left on geary. flashing stop lights and traffic enforcement officers are there. they believe it will help commuters moving along and drivers that were not expecting major changes. some commuters want to avoid the confusion altogether by leaving the car at home and taking the ferry. >> there is lots of people on the boats i took one of the earlier ones, it's the best thing to do. >> having to get the ticket prevents you from having to get one the last minute. >> terry: she says extra shuttle times and water vessels were added to the schedule to accommodate the increase in passengers. sky 7 was overhead as the last

hospital. the two dogs were not hurt. >> this morning, in alameda county, a house fire is in san leandro is under investigation. take a look at video over the scene on pico place and page street. fighter was knocked down in 30 minutes but the house was destroyed. a neighbor says she was having a late dinner before 9:00 when he heard loud booms. >> i heard three large explosions. i went out took a look. i seen the neighbors running around saying i want to get out. i looked out and the flames were shooting up 20 feet high. >> we know there were a number of individuals the house was occupied at the time of the fire and everyone got out safely. >> they are focusing what caused hose booms and how the fire started. >> berkeley police have arrested a man suspected of running two bicycle it's off the road last

week. take a look at the video. it shows the moments when a driver rammed the first bike right on tunnel road. cyclist with the camera were knocked off his bike. we have learned that police arrested the owner of the acura at the jack london inn yesterday. he reported the car stolen after the accident. he is on parole and face faces charges of felony hit-and-run and heroin possession. >> reactor number one was scheduled for maintenance fans but reactor number two had to be shut down because of a slimy problem. intake screens are clocked by a jelly like creatures. nobody is sure when they are going to be gone. the state's other nuclear plant has been off line for three

5:00 a.m. monday so the traffic can be ready for the commute. if not -- let's not think about that. let's go to frances dinglasan. >> good morning. i wanted to show you how light traffic is as terry mentioned us a come off the golden gate bridge. golden gate bridge still a good option right now if you are heading in to san francisco out of marin county. terry took lincoln boulevard and a lot of folks taking presidio. i want to show you the official detour map. what they recommend is heading south on highway 1. you noticed california and geary or the detours. on california, there is an illegal left turn side so at geary right now we had one of our folks at abc7 just drive through there earlier this morning. and the lights are flashing red, there is a traffic control officer helping people make that

left turn. geary is a faster alternate heading towards downtown san francisco. keep that in mind. there is illegal left turn sign on california but we'll keep you posted on that. other detours are heading to the richmond-san rafael bridge down to the bay bridge, right now at the toll plaza things are light. you are good to go no matter which detour you take right now. >> terry: thanks very much. great to have you on this saturday. >> at age 75 the gd bridge is looking good thanks to ongoing earthquake safety upgrades. but it is unsafe seismically. heather ishimaru has more on that. >> reporter: the fire department was here doing tests right outside the new tunnel. it will go into use on monday carrying both directions on monday. when the project is completed in 2016 it will carry southbound traffic only.

in a major earthquake the tunnel walls are designed so there might be damage but no collapse. seismic retrofitting was rejected with a frighteningly low safety rating. >> 2. it's pretty low. out of the inventory of all the bridges in california. it's probably the lowest. >> reporter: replacement will require demolition of the structure. first phase with take place at record speed with a if you are ful closure. the bridge will be open but it's expected to be congested. >> my suggestion would be take a ferry. larkspur and sausalito ferries were doubling our service on larkspur and sausalito. >> heading southbound 101 heading to the bridge should be a parking lot. >> i think it's going to be a head-on collision on the bridge. >> replacement was also considered as an option for the

51 in san jose. 47 in los gatos with 46 the cool spot in napa. 52 in san francisco. 24 hours ago we were cooler. we have warmed up and retained some of the heat from yesterday. we are on our way to a warmer afternoon but temperatures as they come up, nothing too extreme. sunny and warmer through many neighborhoods but the coast will remain cool. we are looking at a system to visit us by the middle to end of next week and that could bring us a few north bay raindrops. here is the setup, higher pressure to the north. we have high pressure right off the coast well to the north. that will be some warming around the bay. in terms of temperatures we will cool off. as this trough continues to press to the north we'll look nor some coastal fog throughout

beaches tomorrow. not a lot of warming there. that is the only change from today to tomorrow. if you live in land or along the peninsula. you won't notice much of a change, 81 in sacramento. 83 in southern california with upper 90s in palm springs. look at the 60s from the northern sierra. back home, we're looking at mid to upper 70s here. 77 in campbell with cupertino coming in at 76 today. in and around the peninsula, numbers in the mid 70s. northwest winds 10-20 miles an hour keeping it cool from pacifica to half moon bay. 63 in half moon bay. san francisco coming in at 67 degrees. a couple degrees above the average today. south city, mid-60s and in the north bay, look for numbers ranging from the upper 50s. 62 at stinson beach.

heading north, cloverdale, napa, will 80. but mainly in the low 70s from oakland to union city. 73 in fremont as well as castro valley. heading out further inland, that is where we're gel get into more warming, highs in the upper 70s. pittsburg and antioch, low 80s. very pleasant afternoon. nothing too extreme in the next couple days. a little more fog in the days ahead. stay cool here. breezy from time to time, 52 in monterey with 73 in santa cruz. so the next seven days featuring the warmest days really tomorrow inland. today should be nice at the coast. more fog at the coast tomorrow. then slightly cooler temperatures come monday and tuesday. then by wednesday and thursday we're looking at increasing clouds and a may have to add a rain drop or two.

the old approach to golden gate bridge. you are looking at video from sky 7 hd. traffic being routed around the closure so far the work is going smoothly. built in 1936, it lob the new presidio parkway. it sounds better than deadly doyle drive. here is frances dinglasan. >> it sounds safer. if you are thinking about coming in from marin county. golden gate bridge, still a good bet at this point. still the major alternate route, park presidio boulevard, you are safe if you are heading in that direction. traffic is light, you can see it with exclusive waze traffic app. no problems. if you are taking about richmond-san rafael to the bay bridge. you are good to go that way as well.

>> terry: thanks very much more the advice. the warning from caltrans, don't drive over the golden gate bridge. if you don't absolutely have to. with the demolition underway it's expected to have major impact on traffic. first time in memory south southbound traffic on presidio is being allowed to turn low-fat geary. nick smith continues our coverage. >> at exactly at 8:00 p.m. traffic enforcement officers disabled traffic lights and took position. they will be stationed here throughout the weekend. they believe it will help commuters moving along and help drivers that weren't expecting major changes to the traffic pattern. take a look at the map from officials. in red, the closed off doyle drive. it shows drivers have two opportunities to make a left turn, california street or geary boulevard to get across town. that is big change for drivers that is familiar with this stretch of highway and use it regularly.

she never made it to school on march 16. they found her purse and cellphone a couple days afterwards but no other clues. the san francisco medical examiner has identified the body of one of the sailors lost at sea two weeks ago during the race around farallon islands. kentfield resident jordan from. he was a graduate from redwood high school. he was among eight crewmen. five people died. medical examiner did not say where from's body was found. >> we're getting our first look inside the home where a shocking crime occurred last month where five people were slaughtered inside their ingleside district home. they believe this man binh thai luc is responsible for the killings. vic lee takes us inside the house with details with the cellphone call that broke

indicates. >> reporter: five bodies were found early friday morning march 23rd. violence and bloody carnage happened some time the night before. the victims, a husband and wife, their daughter and son and his wife. steve chen is married to the only member the family that is living a daughter that discovered the body went to the home after the murders. he showed us the pictures. victims which were placed neatly in a home in the dining room. they had been bludgeoned to death one by one by their killer. forensics investigators have already removed evidence from the house. but the two-story home is pretty much the way it was the day after murders. several law enforcement agencies have given abc7 the following chronology of what happened. they say the suspect binh thai

luc new both lei and his wife. he hired him as a plumber last year. the first that was killed the body was found in the two room unit on the floor where he is a and vincent lived. the killer most likely vincent's parents. the bodies were found in the garage. killer went up the stairs and went into the daughter's bedroom and bludgeoned her to death. he waited for vincent to come home. his body was found near the front door. they severed his hands with a sharp edged weapon while torturing him. after it was over, he washed himself in the bathroom and wiped bleach over door handles to remove finger paints. he turned the fuas totes flood

half moon bay and corn cord. we are looking at temperatures retaining some of the warmth from yesterday. it warmed up nicely in the afternoon. without that fog, without that onshore flow, a little warmer and breezy winds along our coast today. that will take us in the overnight hours with return of low clouds and fog. sunny and warmer this weekend with a little bit of a cooling pattern getting underway on monday. a few higher clouds. we begin the cooling trend at our coast tomorrow with low clouds and fog. we will be looking at a couple of systems headed our way. the one by the end of the week, looking at more cloud cover and perhaps a few sprinkles in the north bay by thursday. here is a look at satellite picture, you notice we have the pressure to the west of us. weak disturbance to the north.
