let's begin with lisa amin gulezian lease. she has been watching drivers navigate the detours and the business impact. >> lisa: you know, we are at the recommended detour near park pre seedow where traffic is not that bad. there's a little backup, but southbound traffic can make a left turn on to geary. these signs are up all over the city this weekend. warning drivers that doyle drive is closed. if you have to cross the golden gate bridge, caltrans recommends taking park press presidio boulevard. but some south alternate detours. this one is popular but slow slow-moving. >> i'm trying to get to the golden gate bridge. >> how is it going? >> slow. hopefully cutting through the

presidio to get up to the golden gate, but we're at a stop. >> been sitting here ten minutes. looks like another 10-15 minutes to get a block. >> even though caltrans and the city have been planning this closure for some time, it still caught people offguard. >> we're actually tourists. we know nothing. >> on the news. >> but we forgot. >> many are heeding the warning and avoiding the situation all together. caltrans reported a 50% drop in traffic coming into and out of the city after doyle drive shut down. the restaurante marina says business was slower than usual, and this patio is full but inside it's anything but. >> people avoiding the area because -- so much has been said

that it's not going to be good here for this weekend. >> reporter: and these signs behind me will finally come down monday when doyle drive will re-open at 5:00 a.m. live in san francisco, lisa amin gulezian, abc-7 news. >> ama: golden gate ferry is doubling its service over the weekend. ferries between los larkspur see and ben sausolito and san francisco. there's normal service to at&t park, skull a direct ferries are sold out. so for a look at traffic and how things are moving, let's go over to sue. >> i just came from the ferry. that's an excellent alternate. they have plenty of parking and they're running a 10:30 service after the giants game. so you do have that alternate if you can't get on the giants

ferry. if one or your blackup prance is the toll peninsulas sacks it's jammed. but i'm guessing that giants game is a problem, leading into the maze. look at the golden gate, people are heeding this but look at the exclusive traffic spotter, park pre seedow boulevard and 19th 19th avenue, bumper-to-bumper from lincoln and the exit off the toll plaza. at the jamup starts at the plaza and you'll be bumper to bumper from golden gate park and san francisco state on 19th. >> alan: crews are racing to open the new bridge, tunnel and roadway before the monday morning commute. here's the demolition zone. a little more than a mile of doyle drive is closed. work started on friday night and crews have been working around the clock. you can see from sky 7, john

alston has a look at what commuters can expect when the work is finished. are they going to finish by monday morning? >> reporter: right now they say they're on track to do that. workers are more than halfway through the major demolition and say they will have the temporary bypass ready to go at 5:00 a.m. on monday. that constant rumble behind me, workers have been at it nonstop in 12-hour shifts since 8:00 p.m. last night. >> what took nearly two years to build back in 1936 started crumbling to the ground in a matter of hours. demolition of doyle drive, spectators lined the pre seedow. some put up the the noise all night long. >> i think it's amazing. first, they're able to do this in such a short period of time, and, two, it's going to change the way the waterfront looks and feels. we're excited. >> the teardown is taking place

simultaneously at six different locations on doyle drive, covering 3,000 feet of roadway. a 1pin billion project. >> it's amazing. what is happening right here. is a lot of deconstruction. >> a few pieces of heavy kim were used to clear debris at the world trade center after 9/11. here the job is to take down the elevated rammed one section at a time which takes a half hour. machines blast a constant stream of mist and workers hose down the site to prevent a cloud of dust. >> dust levels are fine, closely monitoring, so we've seen one-ten inch and that's for the workers. >> and near marina boulevard paving has started on the temporary road. this animation shows what it will look leak for triefers. they pass near a tunnel and then

brentwood. the vehicle collided with another car. it happened shortly after midnight. a 14-year-old girl died in this crash. a witness says she saw a car, quote, flying through the air before it landed on its side. >> it was crazy. hopefully no one i know. i don't think it is. but if it is nip -- anyone i know -- >> pd are requesting extra ambulances. we had two cars major damage. one on its side. one damaged in the front, and basically requested a couple of medical helicopters. am at. >> ama: it all began win three people were stabbed in a fight. it's unclear if the stabbing victim is the person who died in the accident. the reward has more than doubled for the safe return of 15-year-old sierra lamar, last

seen leaving for school on mar 16th. the reward increased to $25,000. investigators believe sierra was abducted. volunteers took partner search for her today and will wrap up in an hour and another volunteer search will be held wednesday. >> alan: oikos university held the lost of weekend memorial concerts for seven people gunned down the school almost a month ago. members of the university community organized the concert. meanwhile, pictures of the victims are on display as part of the campus memorial in front of the school. a former student, one goh, has been charged with the fatal shooting and a wake is underway for one of the victims. onlily from nigeria, she leaves behind her husband and three young daughters. >> ama: a fixture on the san francisco waterfront is closing and it's a favorite spot for giants fans. why it's the last call for this

>> ama: an earthquake had buildings swaying in downtown los angeles. the quake was centered about two miles northwest of devore in san bernardino county and was downgraded from 4.1. the quake was located in a spot where three faults come together. no reports of injuries. >> alan: last call for golden biersch brewery. the doors close for good at midnight after 20 years in that same location. the lease is up and the

>> alan: hayward firefighters saved a woman and her two dogs from a burning home. neighbors called firefighters after smelling smoke. investigators think the fire start after the woman fell asleep with food cooking on the stove. she was taken to the hospital for smoke inhalation and is expected to be okay. her two chihuahuas are also doing fine. >> ama: a quick-thinking girl in china made a decisive move that saved her life. she was one of several students rung across the street when a truck just drove through. authorities say the girl escaped serious injury by ducking under the truck. it veered to one side and crashed into a light pole. the driver was injured and is expected to be okay. the girl crawled out with a few bumps bumps and scratches. >> alan: let's check in on this fabulous weather we're having. leigh glaser is back.
