good morning, thanks for joining us. i'm carolyn tyler. let's start with a look at the weather. here is our meteorologist lisa argen. >> lisa: good morning, looking at the sunshine behind i. 11 degree spread. cool eight degree spread. we have a pretty nice day on tap. coastal clouds are backed up along the shoreline. winds are pretty gusty at our beaches today. at the same time we will see temperatures warm inland today. some more 80s and warmest spots. upper 50s at the coast but cooler week ahead. >> carolyn: well, doyle drive is on its way a thing of the past. roadway linking san francisco and marin county is being

reduced to a pile of rubble. take a look from sky7hd. this is a live look. the project begin friday night. this morning, crews are moving in to start laying down the replacement road. john alston is keeping an eye on the work and is joining us live now. hi, john, you've got the latest. >> reporter: that is right. good morning. all the major demolition is done. actually the replacement road is already starting to take life. you can see behind me, the temporary roadway is done for the most part. it's alongside the debris that was knocked down over the past couple days. it was paved last night but it needs to be striped. from sky7hd you get a big picture. there was been a ballet for the past 60 hours, knocking down and building the brand-new road at the same time.

24 hours still to go. officials say they are still on schedule. today lab critical day. >> so everybody is ready for the change but we still need to get there. people stayed off the roads which were great. we're asking them to do the same. we have a lot of critical deliveries, hundreds of asphalt trucks need to get here. >> reporter: this will be a temporary roadway for the next three years, it will be a movable median barrier for the length of this temporary project. speed limit on this new roadway will be knocked down to 35 miles an hour and on monday morning, you'll notice there is a curve coming in to this tunnel over here. officials say it will be not as drastic as the s-curve on the bay bridge. it will take some getting used to. there will be warning signs and there will be a number of distractions, not only the tunnel that is brand-new and all this debris which is right up alongside the roadway.

but again, the schedule is for this to be open and ready to go tomorrow morning for the commute beginning at 5:00 a.m. >> carolyn: i like the term on you used. crow yeo graphed ballet. it has to be precise. >> and they bring 200 workers working 12-hour shifts at 8:00 p.m. and still knocking down some of the barriers and some of this debris still is going to take months to get all this hauled out. >> lisa: frances dinglasan is in for us this morning helping you navigated around the doyle drive closure. >> it's looking really great. here is a live shot of the golden gate bridge. carolyn was telling us that traffic was down. you want to do the same thing today. if you are heading to the bay bridge, that is where things got

backed up yesterday afternoon. today there a giants game so consider bart if you are traveling in and out of the east bay. here is a live shot of san rafael, southbound traffic on the right heading towards 580. richmond-san rafael bridge looks good. i want to take you to waze traffic app to show you what it looks like on 19th avenue. we have somebody traveleding traveling there. moving about 25 miles an hour. this is tool to let you know delays down to the street level. there were big delays on marina boulevard and you would have been able to find it on the waze traffic app. you can download it yourself and at abc7news.com. >> carolyn: because of the doyle drive dem lilgs, ferry service is going to be expanded again today. right now there are double the number of ferries between marin county and the city. last to leave at san francisco will be at 9:40.

one of the most popular is the route to at&t park for the giants game but that is sold out. if you have to drive across the golden gate bridge, caltrans recommends park presidio park boulevard. if you take marina boulevard and got stuck in traffic. >> sitting there ten minutes, it looks like another 10 to 15 minutes. >> you come here and sit. >> you need a lot of patience. i knew this was going to be like this. >> carolyn: many are heeding the warning. they are avoiding that situation, that mess all together. caltrans does report a 3450% drop in southbound traffic coming into the city from marin county. we'll have updates on the progress of the doyle drive construction project and the detours until the work is

"san jose mercury news" reports that occupy members, union members and labor supporters have agreed to keep off the bridge during the may day protests. massive strike is expected to hit the port of oakland as planned. it's part of a show of unity between union and non-union members working without a contract. in the south bay this morning, a teenager is dead after he was shot on an elementary school campus. san jose police found the 18-year-old at laurel elementary around 9:30 last night. they say he suffered from at least one gunshot wound. paramedics pronounced him dead at the scene. the circumstances, the motive of

the shooting are under investigation. police have not made any arrests. this murder marks the 12th homicide of year. in brentwood there is a memorial at the state of car crash where a 14-year-old was killed. they are stopping by walnut boulevard and bal four boulevard to remember ashley malo ineffective. she died yesterday when a pickup truck she was riding in collided with another car. they say three people were stabbed not far and attempt to driving one of stabbing victims to the hospital ended with the crash. >> san jose police are still searching for two brothers who are suspects in a stabbing death that led to a standoff with police. 20-year-old jonathan beck and 23-year-old byians james beth both said to be transients are warranted for murder. the victim 51-year-old man was found outside a house on

cleveland avenue. he later died from his injuries. >> in japan this morning, new information about a bus crash that killed seven tourists on their way to tokyo disneyland. the driver claims to have fallen asleep at the wheel. it happened north of tokyo. the bus was packed with tourists slammed into a roadside wall. police are having a hard time identifying the bodies. they say nearly 40 passengers including the driver were hurt. all are believed to be japanese nationals. mostly young people. >> another yacht race disaster to report. three crew mechanics of a sailboat are dead, a fourth is missing. it was near the coronado islands. it was part of a international yacht race that begin friday. coastguard are is still searching for the missing members. >> the bay area yachting community came together to

remember victims of the deadly yacht crash here. one was a visiting scientist from ireland. he worked at lawrence berkeley national lab, a memorial service was held for him at st. mary magdelene church. he was working on energy reductions in buildings. >> he was extremely talented and extremely promising young scientist. he is lost. >> carolyn: he is one of five crew mechanics who died during a race when waves over took their boat. it crashed into the farallones. three others survived. funeral services will take place next weekend for one who represented contra costa in the state legislature for some 24 years. boatwright died at age 82. he was elected to the state assembly in 1972 and then the state stat in 1980 but his

>> janelle: the family of missing morgan hill teenager has increased the reward for her safe return from $10,000 to $25,000. 15-year-old sierra lamar disappeared on her way to school back on march 16. yesterday volunteers used burnett elementary school as base and searched again that area around her home. investigators are treating her disappearance as an abduction. a huge crowd jammed into san francisco's from civic center plaza talking about senior health care. it focused attention on a bill in the state legislature that would offer better care for california's aging population. >> if it doesn't go through we'll see costs rise for the state if our clients have to go into nursing homes. what is going to happen also

>> carolyn: welcome back. time 9:19. a close-up look look as they tear down doyle drive. this is about as close as you can get to really seeing what is going on. it is quite interesting. you have all these trucks out there now. the are doing the paving work or replacement road wiasmt most of doyle drive is down if not all of it. reduced to a big pile of rubble. this temporary roadway should be ready caltrans says by 5:00 tomorrow morning. we'll have a live report in just a few minutes. investigators will be back at it today in st. louis looking to collapse of a beer tent that killed one person.

that content was filled with 200 st. louis cardinals' fans. it happened yesterday during a sudden storm. 50 mile-an-hour winds lifted the tent out about hundred feet in the air and shattered the aluminum frame. lightning struck around the same time. one man died, 17 others were hospitalized. about hundred people were treated for minor scrapes and bruises at the scene. firefighters could not confirm at that time what caused the fatality but the pub owner says it was the lightning strike and not flying debris that killed him. i guess you would call it a freak storm or are those common? >> we're getting into the tornado season. typically what we would see them march or april. we see them in united states, normally this is violent weather that brings spring. probably freak storm today but back home, nice stable air

allowing for marine air to filter in. here is santa cruz where temperatures are cool and that marine layer, you see the fog from hd sky 7, it is weak and shallow. it won't be moving far into the bay. you can see it lurking over the golden gate but much of it is below thousand feet. making for a very cool picture this morning from marin headlands, half moon bay, visibility two and a half miles to less at times. because the onshore flow is relatively weak, these clouds should erode and we should see sunshine, opening day on the bay. you can enjoy some nice weather. offshore we have the gusty winds and small craft advisories offshore. 59 in redwood city. livermore coming in 59. antioch, 69 degrees. winds are very weak and gradient

from the north, that is why we're looking at temperatures pretty mild. clouds will remain at the coast. we will see temperatures come down day to day. we'll caught it cooler. the numbers will be somewhat seasonable with the fog at the coast at 20-25 temperature spread. mainly north bay showers looks like for thursday, possibly sneaking into the east bay. maybe san francisco. we'll have to fine-tune our forecast models as we get closer to the middle of the week. big ridge of high pressure dominating the weather and storm track riding over it. first system will knock down that ridge just a little bit. that will allow for more fog, stronger on onshore push, and cooler highs. day to day, another system and then thursday we could see the ridge break down and bring us a little bit of rain. 76 in yosemite. 65 in big sur and back home,

john alston is joining us live now with an update on the project. >> reporter: good morning. over the next couple of months, all the rubble you see behind he will eventually be hauled away. for the time being it's alongside the temporary roadway. this section was paved last night. we've seen trucks and heavy equipment using it right now. it still has to be striped before it can be put into use. all the major demolition has been done. workers are preparing the temporary road that will carry drivers for the next three years while the northbound tunnel is constructed. there is new curve involved and all of it will take some time for drivers to get used to. >> it's not a drastic curve, you can transition on the temporary bypass. we will be warning people we're going to have cause ear signage because it is new. we want people to be aware, keep it slow as people get used to

the transition. in that curve, it's the curve but nothing too dramatic. >> reporter: road is back open tomorrow morning, new speed limit will be knocked down to 35 miles an hour. today, still a busy day out here. officials are asking drivers and people to stay away from the roadway because there will be hundreds and hundreds of truckloads of asphalt being hauled in here as this portion of the construction phase is done. we're being told they are going at a good clip. this roadway should be open and ready to go tomorrow morning for the commuted beginning at 5:00 a.m. >> carolyn: so they still say they can open on time. frances dinglasan is keeping an eye on traffic this weekend showing us how to navigate around the doyle drive closure. with all that going on, you would want to. >> i would want to avoid this area. north bay commuters have done a

and, of course, our exclusive waze app. >> in other news, a 19-year-old richmond man is in the hospital after an early morning shooting in san francisco. police say shots were fired just after 2:00 this morning. it was near broadway and montgomery streets in the north beach neighborhood. the victim was shot in the leg and is now in the hospital in stable condition. police aren't saying how many shots were fired but you can see dozens of yellow evidence tags marking the street. so far there have been no arrests. >> in fremont a house party turned violent leaving one man dead. police found the victim near hyde park drive and yellowstone park drive. he was pronounced dead around 1:30 this morning. several people told police that he had been stabbed. many of the guests at the party appeared to be teenagers. they say word of the party spread on facebook.

>> carolyn: a chp officer dproo drew his gun on a driver following a high-speed chase over the bay bridge. it happened 7:30 last night after the driver pulled over at the fremont street exit in san francisco. you can see the woman walking backwards as the chp holds a gun on her. another officer handcuffed her. they initially tried to pull her over for a car-pool lane violation. a 32-year-old santa rosa man is in custody after crashing his car. he lost control of his volvo near the petaluma boulevard north exit just before 6:00. he slammed into a drainage ditch. he was pulled from the wreckage by a santa rosa police officer just before his car burst into flames. he is suspected of violating a restraining order in a domestic violence case. >> oikos university held the

last of a weekend memorials for the seven people that were gunned down at the school almost a month ago. ♪ >> janelle: members of the university community organized those concerts. pictures of the victims are also on display as part of a campus memorial in front of the school. a misinform student 43-year-old has been charged in that fatal shooting. a wake was held in oakland for one of the victims, originally from nigeria, she leaves behind her hugs and three young daughters. this was the scene right out of a movie, but this weekend's raid on an elaborate heavily fortified underground bunker was real. here is more on the effort to capture a survivalist hold up inside. >> it was a manhunt straight out of a movie.

this is video of a s.w.a.t. team being lowered into the woods by helicopter. chasing down a suspect hold up in a bunker filled with ammo, about cement reinforced walls. police moved in and blew a portion of the roof off finding 41-year-old peter keller dead on the ground inside. >> there is a dead body inside. it appears to have been dead for some time. >> keller was a wanted man accused of shooting and killing his wife and 18-year-old daughter last week before setting the family home ablaze and taking off into the woods. a co-worker he showed no signs of violence but mentioned something about the end of the world recently. >> we were utterly blown away. >> they say he spent eight years toiling in secret to build this place to get a sense how hidden it was. take a look at this, barely visible on the ground. >> finding the bunker was fined ago needle in the haystack.

>> carolyn: so here is a tidbit about the doyle drive demolition construction on on presidio parkway begin in 2009. the work had already taken place before the road was shut down this weekend. new roadway so the left and new parkway is expected to be completed in three years. lisa argen is here now talking weather. >> lisa: we are looking at a lot of sunshine out there. the fog has returned. yesterday it was nowhere in sight but we have a weak onshore push. it's going to get stronger day to day. here is heavenly where temperatures are in the 40s, truckee 41, tahoe, 48 degrees. we're looking at lot of sunshine there. you see the snow on the peaks.

back home, mount tam a little breezy in the higher elevations. we are looking at that fog. it is lurking at the coast. it is about thousand feet deep. down around half moon bay, some fog has reduced visibility to two and a half miles. you go further south along the central coast you are looking at cloudy skies. sunshine in the afternoon but with the weak onshore push, temperatures coming down at the shoreline day to day. onshore flow will increase. right now check it out with very light winds. we have 60s in concord. near that in livermore, 60 in los gatos. 52 the cool spot in oakland. clouds will stay at the coast today. right around the bay they should burn back and see sunshine on the bay but it will be cooler day to day with temperatures coming down 2-4 degrees. did you see that? is the high klans of showers in the north bay coming our way on

wednesday. here is a look at water vapor imagery that shows the dark area off the coast of california. that is ridge of high pressure that is keeping this storm systems at bay. we'll look weak systems to erode that ridge, tail end of another front. by late wednesday into thursday bringing the coolest day of the week and perhaps a few raindrops. force now we are looking at the storm track staying to the north but today is the warmest day of the week. if you like this kind of weather then you like the numbers climbing to the 70s and 80s across the bay. today look for low 60s in the northern sierra. by the end of the week, we're talking about much windier conditions here and breezy conditions throughout the coastal waters. 86 in fresno. 95 in palm springs and back home the numbers range from upper 50s

from ocean beach and point reyes. half moon bay, 62. 73 in san mateo with 65 in palo alto. low 80s for concord. 82 in livermore. gilroy 82 with fog clearing. santa cruz you can see the high of 74 and at&t park we're looking at sunshine with temperatures in the mid 60s making it to upper 60s. that is the cooling trend gets underway tomorrow and then more significantly by wednesday. then latter system during the week could bring a few showers. that next weekend we are looking wasn't sure if the ridge is going to build. looks like maybe that should be the end of the week cooler. we'll see. >> carolyn: isn't that mother's day weekend. i know people have a lot of plan on tap. after 20 years of serving on
