kristen sze. i'm eric thomas. breaking news, amy hollyfield has been tracking developments all morning on 680 that is where a big rig overturned that big rig containing hazardous materials. but, a change may be coming, soon. >> reporter: the situation is improving. i'm still standing on i-680 so it could be better. but i'm the only thing out here. the tractor trail gone that is a huge improvement that just happened within the last couple of minutes this is northbound 680, one lane of traffic open. but they are going to be opening these other lanes very soon they are just doing sweeping up, here's some pictures of what they were dealing with. the accident happened 10:00 last night tractor trailer crashed it was southbound on 680, it jumped the center divide lanes in both úkgctions were closed all night in part because of what

the truck was hauling, hazardous chemicals that had to be inspected. that took time. haz-mat team determined the chemicals were fine, no threat whatsoever. but they had to make sure. also, 100 gallons of diesel fuel spilled on to the road, they had to clean that up. it was a long night. this happened at the sunol exit, they had to close the now both directions. they made opening the southbound lanes a priority that's the heavier commute side. they got those lanes open around 5:00. then they turned their attention to northbound. it looks like the worst is over. we don't -- you don't need to stress out over making alternative plans. looks like they've got one lane open if you want to take a live picture, if you want to turn the camera back this way, we'll show people how it is moving slowly, obviously not an ideal situation, an improvement over what we had. this should be opening up soon if you haven't left the house

department. the department needs to cut $250,000 or it will have to shut its doors in july. the cafeteria is run by culinary art students. they stand to lose the training that gives them answer in the job market. college officials are set to reveal plans for a fundraiser today. some of california's top chefs want to stop the state from pursuing a ban on foie gras which takes effect in two months. it is made from the liver of a duck or goose which has undergone a fattening process animal rights advocates object to that process which involves force-feeding the birds. chefs say the ban is too extreme. they believe new laws regulating production would work better. the foie gras bandits back to 2003 when dan noyes and the i-team exposed the conditions under which the delicacy is made. it inspired legislation to outlaw foie gras. the law takes effect july 1st.

thousands of teachers all over the country are shaking up classrooms with a technique called flip-teaching. flip-flopping what used to be homework with class work. the preliminary results are looking good. we asked a couple of teachers to show us what it is about. >> april teaches high school science in mill valley she has taught for 22 years this is the first year she has flipped her classroom. >> today a new class. >> reporter: instead of lecturing in class, she records her lecture using the camera on her computer, she can use props and diagrams then puts the lecture on an internet site and students watch at home. >> which gives them freedom to rewind and we start and understand the -- and restart and understand the material better. >> reporter: teachers don't have to spend class time on lectures. >> better use of our time. >> we have have labs and more working with other people and

rated 2 out of 100 for earthquake safety by the state. interesting improvement for the views, wider lanes, that kind of thing, also much safer this morning. katie marzullo, abc7 news. we continue to bring you latest on breaking news we've been following involving a nasty crash that shutdown i-680 all night. after nearly nine hours, the last closed northbound lane has just roped near the sunol exit. the closure began after a big rig hauling hazardous chemicals crashed 9:30 it hit the median so hard parts of the trailer were spread across both sides of the freeway. crews spent much of the night trying to determine the chemicals carried by the big rig. it had not spilled. the chp says the contents were intact but diesel fuel did spill on the road. officers are still trying to figure out what lead to that

43-year-old one goh has been charged with killing six former classmates and a receptionist nearly a month ago. he went to the school seeking revenge because he was angry at school officials who refused to refund his tuition. he has been on a hunger strike since being arrested. officials are monitoring his condition at the infirmary. classes or oikos university nursing students are set to resume at a nearby school. oikos reopened last monday, but nursing students say it is too painful to return to the school. six of the seven people killed in the april 2nd, shoot nursing students. unitech college in fremont has agreed to allow classes on their campus instead. grief counselors will be on campus this morning at newark memorial high to help students cope with the death of a star football,kxd player. police say the 18-year-old was stabbed at a house party saturday night near hyde park.

witnesses say the party was wrapping up when a fight broke out. he was stabbed and pronounced dead at a hospital early sunday morning. one man is under arrest. police say three juveniles were also taken into custody as accessories to the crime. 6:37. right now san jose police on the hunt for suspects in the fatal shooting of a teenager on a school campus. officers found the 18-year-old shot and dying on the campus of lowell elementary school late saturday night. he was pronounced dead at the scene. police have not determined a motive, no one has been arrested this is san jose's 12th homicide of the year. family, friends and the giants will hold a public memorial today for one of the sailors killed in a racing accident near the farallon islands. alexis busch was a former batgirl for the team the first in major league baseball she was one of five killed when their yacht was hit by a giant
