good morning it is 4:29 on this tuesday. we don't need music. i'm eric thomas. right now breaking news san jose massive early morning fire has injured at least five people. >> >> that's right. we want to tell you more about it now. that fire started after 2:45 this morning on 29200 block of warfield way. there is one fatality in this fire. it took firefighters at least half an hour to knock it down you can see the aftermath. details are limited. fatality and perhaps other injuries. multiple ambulances have been called out to the scene. you can see that there lots of firefighters. 2200 block of warfield way in san jose. we'll continue to follow the story and bring updates as we get them.

in watsonville an investigation underway after several people barely escaped a hotel fire. 17 people were injured, five critically burned. the stagg hotel went up in flames 5:30 yesterday. one man jumped from a window to escape. police officers pulled one byrne from a window. neighbors also came to -- one person from the window. neighbors also cape to the rescue. >> somebody had a ladder which they were able to bring down two people. >> it took firefighters about an hour to douse the flames they believe the fire started in the front office of the hotel. the exact cause is under investigation. the hotel is a transitional facility for substance abuse patients undergoing treatment. san francisco police station and dozens of businesses have major cleanup work this morning after

protesters became vandals and went on a destructive rampage in the mission district last night. amy hollyfield is live at the police station. how does it look? >> reporter: it was a late night in the mission last night because it looks like a lot got cleaned up. a lot of the business owners were determined to get ready for business today. here's the mission police department it looks better, the paint is gone. the broken windows are still here. the department of public works will have work to do today. it want just buildings that were attacked, windshield replacement companies will be busy. the vandals smashed up and painted several cars. witnesses say it was a large group of people dressed all in black that went on a rampage. witnesses say it was disgusting to watch. >> if you are going to take comments and free speech different from taking action on people, individuals all middle class people just breaking property and

destroying property that belongs to other people that hardworking. it is inappropriate. >> reporter: mission police station sent officers in riot gear outside to keep watch and try to keep the vandal as way officers did make one arrest. we are told there was a peaceful gathering at delores park part of the occupy movement. an organize we are that event said he was horrified at the turn of events. he says the occupy protesters do not know who these people were. amy hollyfield, abc7 news. 4:33. this morning's ferry service out of marin is cancelled because of labor strikes again the golden gate transportation district. a coalition of labor groups upset over stalled contract talks have announced plans to strike for the morning hours. the ferries scheduled to resume service around 2:00 this afternoon. this morning's strike does not affect the east bay ferries.

terry mcsweeney will bring an update in less than 30 minutes on abc7 news at 5 a.m.. protests could make getting around a challenge. the city has sent a letter to businesses warning about potential traffic delays beginning with this morning's commute. then protesters will target downtown businesses early afternoon. they are being called what is a march for dignity and resistance 3:00 at the fruitvale bart station followed by a 6:00 rally at frank ogawa plaza outside city hall. in 2 1/2 hours nurses will stage another one-day strike this is the third in a year long contract dispute. theed nurses say sutter is demanding unacceptable cuts. sutter says it is trying to rein in costs. elective procedures are being

rescheduled. sutter is bringing in replacement nurses. the hospital's management says striking nurses will not be allowed to return until this weekend. in a few hours alameda county supervisors will meet to begin filling a seat left vacant by nadia lockyer she resigned april 20th, to focus on recovery from an abuse relationship with a former boyfriend and raising her child. the board voted to accept her resignation. they have 60 days to choose a replacement. a warning for anyone who rides muni. pay your fare or face a $100 citation. today the transportation agency board is expected to adopt a new policy. transit officials want to ask the board of supervisors to consider a amending the code to allow backdoor boarding on all buses. right now riders are allowed to board only through the

front some sneak on through the back. today the walnut creek city council will consider an ordinance that could impose new regulations on bars and restaurants that serve alcohol after hours. authorities are working to combat violence as it relates to the late night bar scene. fights have become common in walnut creek. a few months ago three fights left -- lead to nine arrests and injuries to police officers. state water offs will take their final snow pack measurement of the season. today's measurement and others will give them an idea of how quickly the snow pack is melting. sierra runoff a third of the state's water needs and the last measurement april 2nd, shows the water content was 55%. today's snow pack is melted below but the reservoirs are filling up to levels that are above average. wow, a lot going on today. we've given you a forward look. we look forward and we

simple blood test could determine if a woman is at risk for breast cancer, within five years of the exam. that's a new finding of british scientists. they analyzed samples from almost 1400 women of all ages, 640 went on to get breast cancer. researchers found a strong association between the risk and molecular change in a particular white blood cell gene called atm. the results are in the journal cancer research. hours from now, facebook's founders announcing new tool that could save thousands of lives in an exclusive interview with "good morning america" robin roberts mark zuckerberg will unveil a tool that will allow facebook users to add their organ donation status to their timeline if they are not organ donors they can find links to registries and instantly
