intermediate school. driven to roosevelt park by his parents, according to police he was attacked by a group of people, possibly a gang. beat him savagely, head injuries, he was taken to the hospital, this happened friday evening about 7:00, he died on monday police only releasing the information now to give the family time to deal with their loss and investigators time to put things together. police say there's no doubt about it, roosevelt park is a known gang hangout. >> from what we know about the investigation coupled with the information that we know about the park we believe this is gang-motivated homicide. >> reporter: police are saying there were lots of people at the park last friday. when police arrived they scattered. they would like someone to come forward no suspected identified this is san jose's

13th homicide of 2012 and the fifth gang-related killing. terry mcsweeney, abc7 news. :03. developing news san francisco, more than 60 people treated with antibiotics because they had contact with a young lab research worked with a bacteria that caused meningitis and other illnesses, he died over the weekend. katie marzullo is live in the newsroom. he died from the disease he was investigating? >> reporter: exactly. so sad, but the chief of infectious disease at the hospital looking forward says it will be five more days before they can totally be sure that no one else contracted the potentially deadly bacteria. incubation period typically three to five days in rare cases as long as 10 days. the 25-year-old researcher died of an overwhelming bloodstream infection saturday. assumed he came into contact with the bacteria last week while working with it in the va hospital's infectious

disease lab in san francisco. his first symptom appeared friday night hours after he left the lab. the man lived on treasure island with his girlfriend and roommates the chief of the hospital says the workers who treated him at the hospital and his fellow lab workers, 70 total have all received preventive care. >> everyone in the laboratory was called immediately to find out if they had symptoms. and they were all given antibiotic pre . a single dose of antibiotics 100% protective against -- against developing the infection. >> reporter: the bacteria is spread through saliva, sharing food, toothbrushes, kissing or coughing in close proximity, three feet. the germ can kill quickly in this case the worker died 18 hours after he started showing his first symptoms. symptoms include nausea, chills and rash. the public health department is still looking for anyone

caused. you can see that at least part of the building caved in. police have not said what they believe led to the crash. they have not determined how badly it damaged the structural integrity. many of the protesters arrested in oakland are set to make their first court appearances. police say officers arrested 39 during the mostly peaceful protests. city leaders say only a small group provoked confrontations and vandalism. most arrests were for obstruction or failing to disperse. five face more serious charges, including felony battery and vandalism. wells fargo is helping to cover the costs of monday's vandalism spree from the mission district. the bank is giving $25,000 to help business owners cleanup and make repairs. dozens dressed in black broke windows, threw paint and slashed tires along valencia street more than 30 businesses were hit, including a police station.

identified in this killing. terry mcsweeney, abc7 news. san francisco's long troubled 6th street may get a police substation. a committee has just approved a plan the substation could open as early as this summer around the same time twitter's headquarters will move to the area. the city will spend $775,000 to renovate a storefront, rent could cost more than $297,000, if police stay in the facility for the entire nine year lease. the board will vote tuesday. in a few hours caltrain board will begin discussing plans for adding more trains. caltrain is expected to have a balanced budget for the next fiscal year and seeing record ridership levels. the agency is recommending adding six more trains to its daily schedule to address overcrowding. cal trains faces a shortfall in future budgets, unless a new stable funding source is
