good morning. thanks for joining us. i'm carolyn tyler. let's start with a quick first look at the weather. here is our meteorologist lisa argen. >> lisa: good morning. view from mount tam shows that the winds continue to blow at the higher elevations, up to 25-30 mile-an-hour gusts around the area. that is where the warmer air is. the warmer air is going to be working down to the surface quickly. 60 in san rafael. those northerly winds will allow for a rapid warmup today. already anywhere from 5-10 degrees warmer than yesterday at this time. we will be about 10 degrees above the average today. a ridge of high pressure continues to build into the eastern pacific. we're not done with our warming yet. the warmest day tomorrow but still even warmer inland on

tuesday. >> carolyn: breaking news in oakland where we are learning more about a midnight shootout that left a police officer and a suspect injured. it happened on bird street near 92nd avenue. we understand that two officers on patrol spotted the unidentified man who ran from them. so far police aren't saying what crime the man is suspected of committing, one officer chased him on foot and gunshots were exchanged. that officer is hospitalized in stabilize condition with a leg wound. so far no information on the suspect's injuries but they say his gun has now been recovered. >> a vallejo police officer killed in the line of duty is being honored with a candlelight vigil tonight. last november 17th. he was shot to death while chasing down a suspected bank robber, a 37-year-old fairfield man was arrested and charged with capital murder.

the officer had strong ties to vallejo to the high school where he coached girls' basketball. tonight's ceremony in sacramento honors ten california officers and leads up to formal services tomorrow at the california peace officers memorial. >> san jose police say 30 people were arrested during cinco de mayo celebrations. the arrests range from public intoxication to possession of deadly weapons. overall they described the event as peaceful with some minor flare-ups. santa clara street was crowded with cruising cars as latinos from all over the state came to san jose to celebrate. this year police installed a series of traffic diversions to keep too many cruise frers clogging the streets. 67 traffic citations were issued. pedestrians strolled the streets to go to nightclubs or just people watch. they made a strong show of force to keep things calm.

>> we have more units and horses and we have helicopter and support here, bicycle officers. it's the number of units. >> on friday night things were less peaceful. three arrests were made in connection with a gang beating. 21 others were arrested on a variety of charges. police in san jose are also investigating a shooting. it happened just after 8:00 last night on cadillac drive. officers found a man suffering from at least one gunshot wound. he was taken to a local hospital with potentially life-threatening injuries, police still don't know if that shooting was connected to the cinco de mayo celebration z. now to an update on that fatal fire in san francisco last june. there is new report saying unusual architecture and tragedy breakdown in communication led to their deaths. the report from osha reports

that when they entered the split level home they were unaware it was burning below them. the report notes that commanders failed to maintain contact and assume the firefighters were okay even after the flash over killed them and melted their radio z. san francisco said there were four safety violations in the deaths of vincent perez and anthony valerio. >> some music producers are helping to raise awareness and money to try to find a missing arizona girl. the 6-year-old disappeared from her home two weeks ago. her parents are speaking out publicly for the first time. tomas ramon shows how the local music industry is responding. ♪ ♪ >> this video has been put together by several musicians

and artists. it's an effort to find her. she has been missing since april 20th. her parents panicked when they found the bedroom window open. they spoke publicly for the first timing. >> in order to help the family find her, musician friends in tucson contacted music producers in oakland. this is rough mix of the lyrics and music. they donated the final professional sound mix. a finished dvd will be sold to raise funds. >> sometimes musicians can help in unusual ways because a lot of people listen to music that don't pay attention to newspapers and things like that. ♪ ♪ >> music and lyrics having been written people close to the family. they believe tucson police can

use their help. >> that doesn't mean we have abandoned the search. >> they announced a change in tactics, they are working with the f.b.i. and concentrate on surveillance video like this that was taken at the time of the abduction. >> here at home the search for sierra lamar will focus on san jose this week. 15-year-old disappeared on her way to school a month and a half ago. dive teams will resume their search at reservoirs. they are treating her disappearance as an abduction. volunteer z are still searching the area around her home. >> this morning the 79 fewer guns in east palo alto. they were turned in yesterday during the annual gun buy-back program. police department gave hundred dollars in cash for every firearm turned in. no questions asked. officers say the point of the

buy back isn't just to hand out money. >> it's for overall safety. you look at it from the perspective it prevents a child of getting a hold of the gun that may harm somebody else. someone can get hurt and hurt an innocent bystander. >> carolyn: most people turned in one, maybe two guns. one man handed over 20. >> occupy protestors remain at a university is owned field this morning even though u.c. berkeley officials gave them until last night to leave. protestors took over part of the ten-acre property known as the gill tract. they want that land to be used as a sustainable farming. u.c. officials were in talks with the occupy farm group but talks of stalled. >> coming up next, hours after the kentucky derby they investigate a homicide at

to determine how long french troops stay in afghanistan. under nicolas sarkozy they pledged to reduce unemployment. new, replies in kentucky are investigating a murder. it happened hours after yesterday's kentucky derby. a man's body was discovered inside a barn where the winning horse was kept. police say the victim doesn't have any connection to the racetrack. an autopsy is scheduled for tomorrow. >> just two hours from now, san francisco's mission district begins a new experiment with the sunday streets program. that is where busy streets are closed to traffic from 11:00 to 4:00 so people can come outside to exercise and play. a new pilot program announced by mayor ed lee friday talks about the concept of holding consistent sunday streets in one location on the first sunday for

hd showing you the bay bridge. it's a good day to be on either side of that bridge anywhere in the bay area. we're in for delightful weather. it is heating up quickly. >> quickly you got that right. we did have a breeze in the atmosphere and it wasn't as warm. we are starting out in the 70s. we're talking about toasty weather east of the caldecott tunnel. that has to do with the sinking air is drying out. so we're looking at a rapidly warming day today with temperatures already in the 70s in some spots. we are still quite comfortable on the peninsula on our coast. it's 60 in fremont. good morning, mountain view, 67 for you. it's 65 in santa rosa. so reason we're seeing this rapid jump from hour to hour because of a north wind. we have quite gusty winds.

at the higher elevations. this is at the surface. breezy winds out of the north. that warmer air is about above thousand feet, anywhere 1500 feet, 40-50 miles an hour around mount diablo. that warmer air is keeping the atmosphere pretty well mixed, that is allowing for the warmer start, as much as 11 degrees warmer for you in concord. livermore, 16 degrees in san francisco but breezy over the hills. that will continue through the day. if you are headed up to mount tam or mount hamilton, it will be warm breeze z. the warmth peeking around the bay at our coast, around the bay, but inland it looks like the warm weather will peek on tuesday when some 90s aren't out of the question. today widespread 70s 60s and 70s. here is the story.

it tells it all. you'll notice we are looking at massive ridge of high pressure not only in the eastern pacific but building into the western third of the nation. that is allowing for this sinking air to control our weather. so there is a trough here. it will take a couple days to move to the south and east. once it does, the ridge is going to have to slide over and in response we'll see a little bit of fog. before that we'll see a sea breeze return in the next 24 hours. once we, do it's not going to be a huge dramatic cool down. in fact behind that little trough we're going to warm up just as quickly. so we do have a pretty good-looking warmer than average week ahead. 74 in yosemite. 85 in fresno. that offshore flow keep it clear at the coast in southern california. 5-6 degrees warmer in downtown. we'll be in the 70s for sure by around noontime. in fact before that. with temperatures today near the

water and sunset district at around the low 70s. at the coast. weak sea breeze but warm offshore winds warming us up. 82 in watsonville and tomorrow we're going to be talking about 70s. mid-70s. a little cooling tuesday. the fog coming back on wednesday. will it be patchy and then warming up quickly behind that thursday, friday and saturday. we have a stretch above normal weather. >> carolyn: my, my, my. i do like it. let's check out sports. this afternoon the giants and matt cain to the mound hoping to win the rubber game against the brewers. yesterday they got a four-game losing streak. here is shu with this morning sports. >> giants with a four-game slide beating the brewers.
