developing news in oakland. police are trying to determine if a home invasion robbery and shooting are remmed to a street robbery that happened minutes earlier. 12:30 this morning officers say it started on the street, suspects entered a home and shot one man in the chest. no word on his condition. police are trying to figure out if this home invasion-robbery is connected to a street robbery 15 minutes earlier. katie marzullo is talking with investigators and she will have a live report. oakland police say fingerprints from autopsy should confirm identity of a man shot and killed by a police officer over the weekend. it may reveal whether the man fired his gun at the officer the unidentified police officer was shot in the leg early yesterday morning and is expected to be released from the hospital in a day or two police say it is possible he shot himself while drawing his weapon.

the situation began the a few blocks away on international boulevard, two officers tried to question three. one ran, chased by the officer. witness says the suspect fell in her driveway and fired at the officer. the suspect died at the hospital. >> i just heard shots. i shut by windows, i get afraid that somebody will be running from the police and run into my house. >> this is oakland's 43rd homicide of the year. a councilman has expressed big concerns that the violence will escalate as summer heat sets in. san jose police investigating an officer-involved shooting. officers say 8:30 last night they spotted a ford wanted in connection with what they call a weapons-related incident. the driver sped away. a few minutes later, police located that suv in a residential neighborhood. as police were searching an officer fired at one suspect.

no one was hit, the suspect surrendered. update on huge apartment house fire that left three dozen hopeless. fire investigators will be back at the scene today looking for the cause. amy hollyfield is live at valencia with the latest. >> reporter: this fire destroyed several hopes and took away a livelihood check out the liquor store behind us boarded up. firefighters will be focusing behind that liquor store. they think that's where the fire started but they don't know how. they won't lack for video. here is one of many samples of video taken by witnesses. many people whipped out cell phones to grab the images. a lot of people documented this fire. it started 10:00 in the morning yesterday. the heat was so intense passers-by were told to stay back. >> we -- my mom live in unit

hailed as heroes for rescuing two people from a burning home in alamo before 6:00 last night. firefighters arrived to find a home fully engulfed in flames. neighbors ran into the house page the man to safety then braved the flames and went after his 96-year-old mother. >> picked her up and carried her out. she was kind of hurt, because she is old and kind of crippled. trying to get her through the trees and bushes over to our house and over another fence was -- we kept passing her between us. >> the fire started from embers leftover from an earlier fire in the fireplace. uc berkeley officials weighing options after a group of occupy protesters ignored a weekend deadline to leave. -owned land. the group moved to the 10 acre -- property on earth day.

lowest level since february, hong kong's hang seng slid 2.6%. s&p 500 futures dropped 1% in early trading. most belief the drops come after election results in greece and france raised new uncertainy over europe's ability to solve its debt crisis. closer look at big political changes in europe. president obama has call to congratulate france's new president-elect socialist francois hollande defeated sarkozy in a runoff yesterday. hollande has criticized france's current austerity program saying he wants to boost government spending and increase taxes. to greece, talks begin this morning to try to form a low government. the nation could end up with another election. the two parties which got the most votes yesterday said they want to change the terms of an international bailout that may be the only thing keeping

cia confirming airstrike has kill a top al-qaeda leader. authorities say a missile fired from a drone hit him as stepped out of a vehicle in southern yemen. the blast also killed another al-qaeda operative. he was on the fbi's most wanted list for the 200 bombing of the uss cole. the cole was docked at the time. authorities say the government of yemen ok'd the drone strike. yemen has been wage ago offensive against al-qaeda militants, stirring up political turmoil in the nation. two uc berkeley grads who gained international attention while in prison in iran are celebrating their honeymoon. they were water over the weekend. -- they were married over the weekend. josh fatal served as the best
