the san francisco school district and teachers union are at odds again this team. the district found a way to cut $1.5 million by reducing the time it takes teachers. abc 7 is in the newsroom with more on this. leanne? >> needless to say the district and the teachers union are in the middle of contract negotiations. now, the district has a huge budgive yit did he havit and proposing a number of cos cost-cutting measures, one to reduce the time it takes teachers to prepare for courses. now, the majority of the teachers in san francisco spend five periods in a classroom and one so called prep time. but someone teaching an advanced placement or ap course has only four periods and two hours of prep team. -- time. the district wants to allow teachers to have only one prep time. sheer why the district says it

will save money. when that teacher goes on the second prep period another must take his or her place. that is costing money. the district says eliminating the hour will save $1.5 million. and the teachers say because there are sources so advanced they need time. >> without time to develop material and it's kind of a set up for failure. >> like any family budget when it gets tight have you to cut and going through different item autos district is offering a $1,000 stipend for extra time put in. the concern is that some may not want to take the district's offer and will drop out of teaching those ap courses in the meantime, the teachers will have a strike vote on thursday.
