and i'm kristen sze. right now a full haz-mat team is in menlo park. police set up a command post and they've blocked off part of edison while they investigate. we don't know the nature of the haz-mat situation yet. terry mcsweeney is on his way to menlo park and he will be updating us live at 5:00. search is on for the driver of a pick-up truck that hit and seriously injured a 4-year-old girl. she suffered massive foot injuries. amy hollyfield is live at the scene in concord. >> reporter: we just got a briefing from police. they are still looking for that pick-up truck and the driver. this area is surrounded by apartment complexes it is easy to picture children out here playing, especially last night it was a warm, nice night. but they are split apart by a busy street, 6th street in

concord. witnesses say the little girl ran out into the street last night. she is 4-years-old and she was hit by ray truck that kept going. -- witnesses say it was not speeding as it left, giving the impression the driver didn't know he hit her. but some find that hard to believe. >> if that car did not see the young child in the street then he had to be blind. no way he did not see her. >> reporter: police officers say she has a major injury to her foot but she is expected to survive. police are looking for a new model metallic blue pick-up truck with over-sized tires, possible damage to the right front headlight this happened at clayton road and 6th street, on 6th street, clayton is down the block. this was at about 6:30 last night. amy hollyfield, abc7 news.

authorities in the north bay are looking for a killer who may have taken off in the victim's car. roanoke park police found a 66-year-old woman dead in her home yesterday morning. officers went to the home after family members asked them to check on her. investigators say there appear to have been a violent struggle. the victim's white toyota was missing. they are searching for the vehicle. in a few hours, divers will search a reservoir while volunteers will be out looking for any sign of sierra lamar. detectives are calling the discovery of a red car a solid lead. the volkswagen jetta was caught in several surveillance cameras march 16th. deputies won't say who it belongs to. investigators are scouring the car for forensic evidence.

the car is giving more leads. sierra's father met with detectives yesterday for an update on the investigation. >> they have an owner and their response was we need to keep that close for investigative purposes. >> we believe she is still alive. we don't have any information or evidence contrary or indicating she not alive. >> sierra's case will be featured friday night on america's most wanted. investigators say they believe sierra is still alive despite the fact they are using sonar to search south bay lakes. this morning the fbi investigating threats made against southwest airlines planes that caused three jets to be searched at two airports last night. officials say nothing suspicious was found. one jet returned to the gate and was isolated at john wayne airport after officials learned of the threat of a possible explosive or

hazardous material. they say at the same time a similar threat was received at two other southwest planes in phoenix. those jets were searched after they landed safely. tsa officials say southwest deemed the threats as noncredible. investigation comes as intelligence officials reveal the man selected by al-qaeda to carry a bomb on to a jetliner was a cia operative, acting as a double agent. identified as a saudi arabian spy who managed to penetrate al-qaeda's inner circle in yemen. fbi is examining the sophisticated bomb he was going to wear. airports around the world on alert. back in san francisco, school officials have voted to lay-off 218 faculty and staff in the school year they settled on that number after sending out 333 preliminary

notices in march. the teachers' union set out empty chairs to represent the lay-offs. they say the board should use part of its 80 million dollar reserve fund to rescind the pink slips. a judge ruled 65 faculty members in the mission and bay view would not be immuned to the lay-offs. teachers are set to take a strike authorization tomorrow. new report this morning shows california's crackdown on junk food in school cafeterias is paying off. california became the first state a decade ago to want sale of soft drinks in schools. limiting the amount of fat, sugar and calories included in meal plans and snacks from vending machines. high school students consume on average nearly 160 fewer calories per day than students

breaking news. there's are live pictures of the hazardous materials incident going on now in menlo park. a team is on the scene of an emergency at an industrial complex. you see some of the crews in those white moon suits for want of a better term. those are suits that protect them from chemical spills and things like hazardous material spills. police have set up a command post, blocked off part of edison while they investigate. we don't know yet the nature of this haz-mat situation. abc7 news reporter terry mcsweeney is on the scene. he's gathering information right now and he will update us on what is happening live at 5:00. frances is also following the traffic situation.

she will tell you how that could affect your commute in a couple of minutes. the owners of an oil tanker that spilled more than 50,000 gallons of fuel into the bay have agreed to pay a two million dollar fine that announcement expected today from the district attorney gascon. the dubai star was refueling in october 2009 one tank began overflowing. an investigation found nobody onboard noticed, no alarm sounded and nobody called for help for several hours. most of the money will be used to restore wildlife habitats damaged by the spill. san francisco supervisors considering legislation that would allow the 49ers an option to get out of their lease early but it will cost. the lease at the stick expires in may of 2015. they are hoping to be playing in a new stadium in santa clara at the star of the 24 toon season the 9ers would pay one million dollars to the

oakland officials are beefing up security at a school. fremont high is located on foothill boulevard in fruitvale. police say it is an area where dug sales openly take place. during a community meeting the principal told officials how a slug from a gunshot struck a wall on campus a few weeks ago. teachers testified about being harassed and having their tires slashed. district officials agreed to

back to menlo park where we have the haz-mat situation. avoid the area of edison way and fair oaks north of marsh, and south of 101. traffic on the peninsula on freeways is fine, it is the end of edison way, i don't think it is going to have a big traffic impact. keep that in mind if you are heading through the area. north bay roadwork as you head southbound on 101 two left lanes blocked until 6:00 this morning. in the northbound direction through novato lanes scheduled to be blocked until 6:00. this is eastbound 80 towards powell, earlier you saw construction crews, they've all cleared. westbound traffic heading out of berkeley towards the bay bridge toll, fine, no delays from vallejo to the bay bridge
