good friday morning. i'm sunny hostin. paula faris paula far paula faris is on assignment. the news we hoped for but didn't dare to expect. >> two kidnapped by a man who killed their mother and sister found alive. the break came overnight. >> abc's tahman bradley joins u. good morning. >> reporter: good morning, rob and sunny. afterty tense two-week manhunt police acted on a tip and s.w.a.t. moved in and the two girls in the woods. remarkably these little girls after all they went through appear to be unharmed. the massive manhunt to find alexandria and kyliyah bain ended with the two little girls found alive. >> when i seen those kids, they was -- it was a huge relief. >> reporter: they are suspected kidnapper adam mayes who had been on the run from the fbi was found in the woods behind this church in guntown, mississippi. >> prelimi he shoate he shot himself in the head and

was laterced dead pronounced de area hospital. >> reporter: overnight they were treated at a local hospital. they appear unharmed although they were hungry and dehydrated. mayes, a former brother-in-law to the bain family, was at the tennessee home of the little girls the night they disappeared. police say mayes kidnapped alexandria and kyliyah when he killed their mother jo ann bain and 14-year-old sister adrienne. their bodies found buried outside his home charged with first degree murder and aggravated kidnapping. authorities believe mayes drove bodies to this trailer where he lived. the fbi says mayes' motives remain unclear but he may have thought the little girls were his kids. >> there was two little girls that he was just absolutely obsessed with. he was claiming that those two children were his. >> made us all think that was his kids. >> reporter: investigators believe mayes had help. his mother mary mayes and his

ex-wife ex-wife teresa ann mayes charged with four counts of conspiracy si to commit aggravated kidnapping. teresa has confessed mayes killed jo ann and adrienne. after their stay in the hospital alexandria and kyliyah will be returned home to the care of their father. rob and sunny. >> as good an ending we could hope for. tahman bradley live in washington. thanks. turning now to presidential politics. mitt romney is on the defensive on something in his distant past. >> he has apologized for what he calls stupid high school pranks which may have a gay targeted a classmate. david muir has the latest. >> reporter: one of mitt romney's former high school classmates at the prestigious cranbrook school was supreme bullying and they acted like a pack of dogs. that classmate, phillip maxwell, now a lawyer offered more an a scene reported by "the washington post" telling abc news that mitt romney was part

welcome back, everybody. a shocker this morning from jpmorgan chase, the nation's largest bank said it guessed wrong on a major trading bet and lost $2 billion in the past six weeks. the ceo blames "error, slopness and bad judgment" but says nsjpe despite that loss. not the case for the postal service reporting a first quarter loss of $3.2 billion, one billion more than the same time last year. it's running out of cash and without help from congress may default on health benefit payments next fall. americans are spending more on mom this year. one survey predicts we'll be shelling out about 8% more on everything from flowers and cards to electronics like e-readers and tablets. on average we'll each be spending $153 for the holiday.

president joked all that money came pouring in not because they like him but because they love george. well, a panel of federal health add advisers endorsed the first drug shown to prevent hiv infection in healthy people. if approved by the fda, truvada could be prescribed to those considered to be high risk for hiv. an fda decision is expected early next month. and the first ne in more than a in more than a decade could soon win fda approval. an expert panel has recommended that lorcaserin be made available despite concerns about the possible health risk. a final decision on that drug is expected at the end of the month. and now a quick look at the big sports headlines this morning. here are our friends over at espn news. gong. i'm don bell with your "sportscenter" update. we'll start with baseball, go to the bronx. rays and yankees, new york trying to recover after that ninth inning blown save situation on wednesday night, so bottom of the fifth we go. that's going to help.
