good morning thanks for joining us i'm carolyn tyler. let's start with the weather on this mother's day. here is meteorologist lisa argen >> lisa: good morning. wow, there is the view from mount tam. we're looking at the fog has been transported to the delta east bay valleys while you were sleeping. winds are quite gusty. the over by fairfield airport delays of 48 minutes. so with this new reformed stratus temperatures in the low to mid-50s right now. but the cooldown already underway and we'll see more sunshine in san jose but temperatures are going to be out of the 80s for most neighborhoods and back into the 50s at our coast. i'll have a look at the rest of

the week coming up. >> carolyn: tomorrow we're going to learn the details behind the state's ballooning $16 billion budget deficit. governor jerry brown announced yesterday to shortfall is nearly twice what was expected. she warning that bigger cuts and higher taxes could be on the way. news reporter john alston showing us the potential impact. >> next weekend seniors at san francisco state are set to graduate but students who have more time are bracing for higher tuition students like kenny who is thinking about another part time job. >> i may be getting one more part-time job, but i'm working about 15 hours now. so i would get one to pay. >> they announced the $9 billion budget deficit predicted in january has ballooned to $16

billion. he says tax revenues have not increased as much as expected because the economy has not bounced back. he used the opportunity to make another sales pitch for november tax initiative. >> it has high income earners to pay 3% more in income taxes for seven years. it will increase sales taxes by one-fourth of 1% for four years. >> without it he is warning to deep cuts to safety and social service programs as well as california colleges and schools. the san francisco union district says it is approaching a worst case scenario. >> that we could be looking at a school year that is nine days shorter than the regular length of the school year. that would be detrimental as far as families is concerned. >> republican lawmakers says the higher deficit is not a surprise. >> it's a big number but we knew

it wasn't balanced when it was voted on simple majority vote by the democrats. my message has not changed in the six years i've been in the legislature, that is taxes is not the answer. >> governor brown didn't have any specifics about the higher budget deficit. we should find out more on monday when he releases the revised spending plan that starts in july. >> carolyn: this morning, santa rosa gearing up for the first stage of one of the largest cycling races in america. amgen tour kicks off just before 11:00 this morning. tomorrow cyclists will wind their way from san francisco to santa cruz county. tuesday, the start in is in san jose the tuesday starts in livermore. the tour is nothing new including a climb up mount diablo. more than 2 million people are expected to line the route and cheer on the racers statewide this year.

8-day tour will finish in southern california on may 20th. >> that you this morning a cycling website reports that federal agents have met with lances armstrong's former director. today's "mercury news" says cycling manager was served a subpoena as soon as he arrived in the u.s. for that amgen tour. he was armstrong's team manager during his record seven tour de france victories. floyd landis accused him of paying a systematic role in a drug program. he did not appear at the news conference for the tour. >> you probably felt nothing but an earthquake with a magnitude of 3.9 struck at 5:38 this morning, it was centered two miles east of the guy'sers. they produce constant seismic

events but most are less than magnitude 3. light shaking from the quake was felt in yuba city. >> occupy protestors say they are not giving up although they dismantled their encampment inside the gill tract. l aahas the details. this meeting's focus is future of farm also known as gill tract. a parcel of land used by the college of natural resources. >> we're not here to get raided. we want this land to be preserved as ag land. >> reporter: cal insists that is what it is used for but demonstrators don't believe it. they moved in and put up tents and started farming three weeks

>> the university has fought a lawsuit to get more than a dozen of these demonstrators as being a nuisance. >> oakland mayor jean quan no longer faces a move to push her out of office. the organizer of a recall effort has posted a notice on his remove jean quan website saying he was able to get the 19,000 signatures. tomorrow is the deadline for submission. >> former alameda supervisor nadia lockyer has gotten a restraining order. she claimed that the state treasurer her husband bill lockyer continue to be haunted by him. sexually graphic video clippings were sent to a newspaper. he says he she says he attacked

a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a >> carolyn: police in southern california are launching an all-out search for a missing and distraught f.b.i. agent. special agent steven ivans is based in l.a. and he was seen thursday evening. detectives believe he left his home early friday morning on foot. authorities won't say why he is distraught but they believe he is armed. they have been searching for the rugged mountains but so far no success. >> police officers from throughout the nation will join president obama today in honoring peace officers who died in the line of duty. one of those officers being honored is vallejo officer james capou after being shot last november. his name is on a memorial at the capital in well. ceremony will be held this evening. >>. >> our viewers have been

>> carolyn: we have not this kind of fog in several days. >> you are right. we have a system off the coast but the marine layer moves east and cooling off. delta is cooling off and allowing east bay valleys to come out of the 90s. here is a look from the roof camera we have plenty of clouds and areas closer to the coast were a little warmer with that fog all night long. inland we have been 2-9 degrees cooler. the trend for cooling continues today. mid 50s san carlos. 58 in san jose with low 50s in the north bay. a little bit of drizzle along the coast. this will be case overnight in

to tomorrow. a little breezy today and fog hanging back at the shoreline. more cooling the marine layer is going to mix on out and we'll see more sunshine. as a result temperatures further cooling tomorrow into the 70s. it will be a cool couple of days 80s in the north bay 90s in inland valleys today 70s and 80s for our east bay valleys. elsewhere, not much of a change. we were cool yesterday with the breezes and today the southerly winds allowing for much of the coast to be shrouded in clouds with upper 50s. couple hundred miles off the coast is the area of low pressure. it's bringing up that southwesterly flow low clouds and fog. it quickly burns back and a breezy afternoon a few high and mid-level clouds. notice the oranges into the outer reaches of the bay area

santa clara livermore valley the tri-valley. a little warmer weather than the rest of the day but still big change from yesterday. so we'll look for the next several days to be influenced by our strong sea breeze. that will allow for low clouds and fog. air mass continues to further cool and mixes on out tomorrow all spelling for temperatures coming down in the next 48 hours. that breeze is not making it to the valley. still quite warm in fresno and sacramento with upper 80s to mid-90s. 84 in yosemite. back home looking at numbers from mid 70 70s in sunnyvale. 73 in menlo park. upper 60s in millbrae. here is where that fog will keep it cool and misty and in the north bay look for mid-70s for petaluma as well as vallejo. 60s in oakland and over the hills for the mildest weather

with temperatures there quite nice in the low 80s with mid 60s in watsonville. couple days of temperatures dropping into the upper 70s that is tomorrow warm up tuesday and wednesday and then more on thursday and friday but it should be nice. >> carolyn: a lot of people will be sad on to see that warm weather go. >> it's coming back. that is what makes it interesting. >> carolyn: let's check out sports. stage one of the amgen tour of california begins in about 90 minutes in santa rosa. this afternoon the a's will try to take three out of four from the detroit tigers in this weekend's series after winning again yesterday but the news wasn't all good for oakland. here is mike shumann with details. the a's disabled list is starting to look like an all-star team. a one was scratched in the line-up and then placed on 15

island princess is at pier 30. as a result embarcadero is closed between kearny and bay streets along the pier 35 cruise terminal so the passengers can safely leave and come back to the ship. that closure goes until 2:00 this afternoon. a cruise for mother's day how does that sound? >> it sounds pretty good. it will be pretty good if you like the cooler weather. we have that coming in not only today but tomorrow. it is temporary, we have a system offshore that is providing these gusty winds and that generous onshore flow. just a couple of 80s out towards concord and livermore but we will see sunshine in oakland today. upper 60s there. low 60s in san francisco with mid to upper 70s if santa clara. warming up tuesday and wednesday. >> carolyn: that is going to do it for us. i'm carolyn tyler. our next newscast is at 5:00.
