everyone. i'm rob nelson. >> i'm diana perez. paula faris is on assignment. president obama and mitt romney are battling to stay in the headlines. >> the president goes after the female votes with an appearance on abc's "the view." and mitt romney talks about the economy in a key midwest state. tahman bradley has more on what's on take. good morning, tahman. >> reporter: the president is doing major outreach to women, who are crucial in his re-election hopes. that's why he taped the appearance on "the view," which airs later today. there were some laughs. but the president also discussed serious topics, as well. president obama is trying to lock down key democratic constituencies with his second term. with the women on "the view," and with a gay and lesbian fund-raiser last night in new york. just days after announcing that he believes same-sex couples

should be able to marry, the president declined to say whether he will now push for a repeal of the defense of marriage act, the federal law that defines marriage as being between a man and a woman. >> will you personally fight to repeal that act? >> well, look. congress is clearly on notice that i think it's a bad idea. >> reporter: the ladies"the view," also asked about jpmorgan's loss from risky trades. >> since these banks are insured, backed up by taxpayers, we don't want you taking risks where eventually, we might end up having to bail you out again because we've done that, been there. didn't like it. >> reporter: the pretaped interview airs this morning on abc. his likely republican rival, mitt romney, heads to iowa today. romney will try to turn the focus of the campaign back to the economy, after days of talk

of same-sex marriage. >> those issues, i think the president's change of view on this topic has become more current today. how important it is to the people a few months from now, time will tell. >> reporter: a new cbs news/"new york times" poll shows romney with a slight edge over president obama among registered voters and among women. although that advantage is within the poll's margin of error. one long-shot presidential campaign is slowly winding down due to lack of money. the 76-year-old texas congressman's coffers dried up recently. paul says campaigning in the primaries would have thrown his campaign into debt. but he says he'll still show up at the gop convention this summer. and in other news, john edwards' oldest daughter, cate, could be called to the stand in her father's trial as early as today. 30-year-old cate has been at her father's side since the trial began more than three weeks ago. yesterday, the judge severely

limited the testimony of a key defense witness, who could have raised doubt about whether edwards broke campaign finance laws. brian mcnamee returns to the stand in the perjury trial of roger clemens. yesterday, mcnamee testified he began innijecting clemens in 19. clemens is charged with lying to congress in 1998, when he said he never used performance-enhancing drugs. a man convicted of drunk driving three times but was pardoned by haley barbour, is facing new charges. harry bostick is accused of driving under the influence, and leaving the scene of an accident that killed an 18-year-old woman. a nigerian man is under arrest for using the identity of a murder victim to work at one of the biggest airports at the country. the man known as jerry thomas

entered the country el lily in 1989 and worked for several contractors in newark, new jersey. he did not work for the tsa. but he did have access to sensitive areas. more severe budget cuts are now threatening the golden state. the weak economy has caused a shortfall in sales tax revenue in california's coffers. jeremy brown says there will be more cuts unless voters pass his tax hikes come november. >> we're going to have to cut deeper. but cutting alone really doesn't do it. that's why i'm linking these serious budget reductions, real, increased austerity, with a plea to the voters, please, increase taxes temporarily. >> the economy in california has yet to bounce back from the recession. unemployment in that state is 11%, among the highest rates in the nation. fire crews in arizona are facing another day of tinderbox conditions as they battle

several out-of-control wildfires. >> a scary situation there. the historic mining town of crown king remains under a mandatory evacuation ordered just weeks before its busy tourist season. and fires scorched have at least 6,000 acres and destroyed several buildings. winds are expected to pick up again this afternoon. now, for a check of the weather across the nation. fortunately, we've got several storms across the midwest. but not where it counts. expect hail and 70-mile-per-hour winds around dubuque, milwaukee, and chicago. a washout for much of the east coast. drenching rain from new england to d.c. and thunderstorms from the south to east. also stormy from texas to new orleans. >> 82 in dallas. 80 in omaha. 77 in the windy city. 72 in baltimore. 85 down in miami. 80s from seattle to salt lake city. and very hot in phoenix, coming in at 104. like we said, not helping the wildfire conditions in arizona at all. coming up, a wish list of

average of $3.73 a gallon. but that's not the case along the pacific coast. there, kriss are rising, 13 cents in washington. 14 cents in california. 16 cents in oregon. and it's because of refinely problems in those areas. the controversy over a $2 billion trading mistake by jpmorgan chase isn't going away. executives are likely to get an earful at today's shareholders meeting in tampa. but it's unlikely that the shareholders will demand the removal of ceo jamie dimon. checking the markets. they're worries on the political impasse in greece. tokyo's nikkei average dropped 73 points today. hong kong's hang seng was up 164. in london, the ftse opened lower. on wall street, the dow lost 125 points yesterday. while the nasdaq index fell 31. it's going to cost more to own a piece of facebook. shares of the social network go on public sale for the first time this friday.

now, facebook yesterday raised the price range for its stock, which would make the company's value right around $100 billion, yep, billion, dollars. in a new poll, half of us think facebook is a passing fad. and is also overvalued. and although many of this year's college students can't be picky when it comes to jobs, they do have a wish list of favorite employers. for business students, the top three, google, apple and our parent company, walt disney. google showed up in the top ten for all five groups, even natural sciences. go, google. >> all the other adults who aren't in college, too much anticipated video games go on sale today. max payne 3, brings back the police detective for x-box and windows computers. >> and diablo three for macintosh for players 17 and older. there you go. when we come back, jessica simpson did some thinking during

investigation. we're not closing the door on any possibilities. >> the police chief says the department has processed more than 1,000 tips and contacted more than 500 sex offenders in that city. but they still have not identified any suspects. a school bus filled of sixth graders returning from a class trip slammed into the back of a semitruck on an illinois highway. a fleet of ambulances rushed to the scene. more than a dozen people were injured including the bus driver. one student had to be airlifted to the hospital. the bus apparently rear-ended the semitruck as it approached a construction zone. and police reported a video of this truck plowing into a pawn store to find the culprit. two men were in the truck. the driver wore a mask. but it's not clear if they stole anything because they ran off as soon as they crashed. the truck had been stolen. but the owner claims he didn't know that until police showed up. meanwhile, a walmart is
