5:01. thanks for waking up with us i'm kristen sze. i'm eric thomas. a 25-year-old san jose man is on life support after spending seven days lost in the woods following a traffic accident. this morning his family wants to know why he wasn't found earler? amy hollyfield is live at san jose regional medical center. that's one of many questions. >> reporter: his sister tells us she has a lot of questions. she says this has been a nightmare. she says he is not doing well but he's on life support. 25-year-old michael sanchez, jr. crashed his truck last week. his family did not know that. he was found two days ago in a wooded area near the crash scene off highway 101 near hellyer avenue. there was a delay because a witness told the chp she saw a

man walk away from the crash site, so officers looked for him for 45 minutes. when they didn't find anyone, they gave up. >> we had a witness there, they witnessed the collision and also witnessed a person exiting the vehicle and walking away from the scene. so, we're operating under the assumptions this person is mobile. >> what really happened? if according to what is told he rolled from his truck and there's a witness, why didn't the witness inform the police then? why didn't the witness go down and help him? >> reporter: sanchez's family didn't realize he crashed his truck. his family didn't report him missing for a couple of days when he missed a funeral they realized something was wrong and called police. san jose police got involved and traced him back to that crash site. they found him tuesday. the family does have a lot of questions for police and chp officers. but also focused on their loved one and they are hoping

he can survive this. amy hollyfield, abc7 news. a few hours to go before investors find out facebook's stock price. it will be announced ahead of tomorrow's heavily anticipated ipo. will it be a good investment? katie marzullo is here >> a lot of numbers involved. >> reporter: so many numbers, and big dollar signs, 900 million facebook users potentially 100 billion dollars in net worth. today's the day we learn a two-digit number. when the markets close this afternoon facebook will announce the final price of a share. the estimated range rose to between $34 and $38. the ipo has generated interest but skepticism yesterday general motors pulled its advertising saying facebook wasn't selling cars. plenty of people contend the company is overvalued. others say the social network

need. they are the resistors. >> and half think it is a fad. we'll see what happens. more news right now. new this morning, foreclosure rates in the country dropped to the lowest in nearly five years. the number of u.s. homes repossessed declined for the third month in april, dropping 7% from march, activity in california decreased by 30% from april of last year. among the nation's 20 largest metro areas, san francisco saw the third biggest drop with a 34% decrease. it is not all good news in the bay area. stockton -- rather than northern california, stockton is number one in the nation in foreclosures with the highest number, one in every 213 housing units filing last month. development in an overnight shooting in san jose. police told us the 18-year-old victim has died they are still looking for the gunman in a residential area in east

san jose. it happened a few blocks from kelly park. a second victim was found assaulted in the same area. police have not identified the suspect or motive. >> petaluma little league board of directors will meet today to discuss safety issues while a pitcher is recovering from surgery after a line drive fractured his skull. the 12-year-old was hospitalized with multiple fractures to his head and broken nose after he was hit during a game last week. he was in the operating room yesterday for six hours. >> reconstructing the sinus cavity and the frontal lobe area and they had to pull all the pieces back together like a big puzzle, pretty intensive surgery. >> everyday he gets better. >> little league players in petaluma are trying out protective headgear there's talk about switching from metal to wood bats.

martinez police hope a photo will jog someone's memory and lead them to the person who sprayed graffiti on several businesses. investigators belief in man was involved in the tagging of a number of buildings 11 days ago march 6th. if you know who this man is or anything about the graffiti spraying you are asked to call martinez police. man accused ever beating a berkeley hills resident to death faces new charges. 23-year-old daniel dewitt is accused of breaking the jaw of a deputy. he was being transfered when he attacked the deputy he's charged with murdering 67-year-old peter cukor last february outside his home. dewitt is a diagnosised paranoid schizophrenic and was declared mentally incompetent to stand trial.

closing arguments set to begin this morning in the trial of john edwards. the defense rested yesterday out calling edwards his daughter or mistress. edwards is accused of authorizing more than one million dollars in secret payments to hide his then pregnant mistress during the 2008 presidential campaign. the defense acknowledged that edwards behaved improperly but maintains he broke no laws. >> the most important question of this trial and that is, when a third-party makes a payment for a mistress, is it a campaign expense? >> for 14 days prosecutors tried convince the jury edwards knowingly used campaign funds to hide his affair from voters. saw clouds driving in this morning. >> there was a denies fog advisory for the bay bridge, only trouble -- there was a dense fog advisory for the bay bridge bridge only trouble is i couldn't find the fog.

police on the peninsula want to know if a carjacking led to a dramatic rescue near the san mateo bridge. the victim says he jumped off highway 92 overpass to escape a carjacker. terry mcsweeney is live at the san mateo/foster city border with the story. >> reporter: the call came in 2:00 this morning to 911. a man saying he jumped off the edge of a freeway to get away from his carjacker but wasn't sure where he was let's start with the end of the story it had a happy ending at that happy ending foster city fire department coming out with a hook and ladder and basket and rescuing the man from highway 92 near the edgewater exit. he says he was carjacked not sure where he pulled over on eastbound 92 hopped out of his car and right over the edge of the freeway falling 30 feet down into some bushes when he called 911 one to say he needed help he -- he didn't

know where he was so chp didn't know where he was chp came out while he's on the cell phone they turn their sirens on and drove as the sirens got louder that went they were closer and he said i can hear you, now you are really close looked over the edge and there was. the chp finally got ahold of him, the fire department and they pulled him up from the 30 foot fall. a lot of questions remain. his car was found, not far away. the san mateo police department is investigating even though it was the foster city fire department that rescued him we are trying to figure out what this carjacking was about where the carjacker might be if there was a carjacking. a lot of questions remain. one answer we have is the man was found and he's safe now. live on the san mateo/foster city border, terry mcsweeney, abc7 news. this morning a 25-year-old man remains in critical after

police found him in a wooded area not far from where he crashed his car seven days earlier. investigators believe michael sanchez, jr. had been there since his car crashed last tuesday near highway 101 and hellyer avenue. his family is demanding answers from police on why it took so long to find him. in berkeley the city council will decide in two weeks whether to evict the owners of a home neighbors say is a crime infested household. a report says 15 people with criminal histories call the place their home there have been more than 40 crime-related reports in the past year and a half. arrests have been made for guns, drug dealing and fighting. earlier this year 18 neighbors complained to city officials who have declared the home a nuisance a next door neighbor says he tried to get police to do something because most of the neighborhood was afraid.
