>> ama: for the second time this week, fire crews stumble possible a major marijuana growing operation in the east bay. >> alan: the billing caught -- building caught fire this morning. they have been fighting the flames al day and battling pungent smoke out there. john alston is live at the steen with more. >> reporter: what's left of the building has been boarded up. there's no doubt this was an illegal growing operation and they're trying to track down the people who were renting the space. what got them there here was a roaring fire that had crews here for much of the day.

when oakland firefighters got here just after 4:00 a.m. they didn't know what to expect. flames were shooting from the warehouse. cans of food stored own the upper floor were exploding. that's not what got police involved. on the ground floor firefighters discovered a large marijuana greg operation. nearly 500 plants and elaborate lighting grid and ventilation system to filter away pot odor. neighbors were none the wiser. >> we knew nothing about this. we would walk by this and see no one going in or out. it's amazing. like a grow room gone wrong. >> reporter: other neighbors recalled seeing what they thought were restaurant equipment in and out. >> they were here at night, maybe like 1:00. >> inside firefighters discovered wiring that apparently powered the marijuana

operation, which presented challenges when they started their attack. >> when you have large growing operation, you don't know how they're getting their electrical source. and so we have to be mindful so we had pg&e come out and cut off the electricity to the buildings. >> oakland firefighters have been to this location in the past with tragic results in 1999 a firefighter was killed when flames tore through a bar. there were snow injuries this morning. this afternoon the police pulled out a few marijuana plants but were waiting for the water to stop dripping before finishing the job. >> the fire apatiently started on the top floor where there was some type of food warehouse or food storage area. investigators say the cause it undetermined and they're not sure whether or not the electrical system with the marijuana agree groh -- grow was even a factor in the fire. the the building's owner has

been cooperative and they're trying to track down whoever signed the lease. >> alan: a fire in richmond led to the discovery of another pot-growing operation flee days ago. a woman who lived in the warehouse and acted as a washguard reported the fire but police did not arrest her, saying they know who owns the plants are and looking for that person. >> ama: three men faced charges of terrorism, planning to attack president obama's campaign headquarters in chicago. they're being held on $1.5 million bond each. officials say the men are from florida, new hampshire, and massachusetts. they were arrest wednesday inside a chicago apartment. prosecutors say the men were trying to make molotov cocktails and intended to attack several buildings. a man who lives in the apartment building says it's all a misunderstanding, claiming employs seed nothing more than equipment to make beer.

investigators believe 15 shots were fire. and police believe someone drove both victims victims to a hospin oakland. the shooting took place on 45th and west streeter in a laundromat. , there is no word on the condition of victims. >> volunteers are scouring morgan hill again looking for sierra lamar. the santa clara county investigators are sorting through tips that came from from america most wanted. a sheriffs spokesman says some callers reporting having seen the now recovered red volkswagen jetta which is tied to the disappearance two months ago. >> ama: more than 400 high school athletes received potentially health-saving health screenings today. university of california san france hosted the play safe event at mission bay. 9% of athletes had hart abnormalities that neat to be
