the president visits today. thanks for joining us i'm kristen sze. i'm eric thomas. we have developing news. this comes out of santa rosa police are looking for the driver of a pick-up truck that smashed into an apartment building then took off. the driver sped off after crashing into a corner bedroom of this building on sunset avenue. the man inside wasn't hurt there were two adults and three children in adjacent rooms, they are okay getting assistance from the red cross while police look for the white chevy pick-up truck. volunteers will resume searching for sierra lamar. >> reporter: this elementary school a couple months ago turned into the sierra lamar

search center today will be the first day investigators say this is a homicide investigation they have no body, they have no murder weapon. until they do, this search is going to be going on every wednesday and saturday as it has since she disappeared march 16th. look at the person who investigators say kidnapped her and killed her, 21-year-old antolin garcia-torres charged, she has been missing since march 16th. investigators say physical evidence found in his jetta, plus dna evidence from lamar's purse tie the two together. investigators say it all adds up to a homicide. sierra's mother still has hope. >> please give the information that you have to lead to sierra to help end this nightmare. i believe there's a reason why she wasn't found. we are not giving up on that.

>> so hurtful to know that she has been dead and she still hasn't been found. >> reporter: that searcher's reaction interesting. how is the turnout going to be impacted today by what investigators announced yesterday that sierra, they believe is dead. dive teams are searching reservoirs for the body. regardless of that, the search is going to go on today in an area about a three, four mile radius of where i'm standing now there is still hope on the part of the family and perhaps on the part of searchers. terry mcsweeney, abc7 news. the suspect's family tells abc7 news that investigators have the wrong man. go if lives in this morgan hill rv park with his wife and 19-month-old child. his mother says she spoke with him after his arrest and he

able to get payback through legal channels. regulators investigating if three banks only told certain big client they say were going to reduce revenue estimates for facebook ahead of friday's ipo that could be considered special treatment. massachusetts secretary of the commonwealth has subpoenaed morgan stanley the main underwriter. morgan stanley said it followed the same procedures that it does for all ip organizations. >> there are issues we need to look at. >> reporter: a man in maryland seeking a class action lawsuit on behalf of all facebook investors suing nasdaq claiming friday morning's delay and technical glitches cost he and others money. nasdaq admitted problems on its end. problems abound with this facebook ipo. founder mark zuckerberg is not immune, he lost another 1 1/2 billion dollars yesterday.

4:36. you can expect protests and traffic tie-ups on the peninsula when president obama comes to the bay area today. the president boarded air force one a short time ago. he will stop in colorado springs for a commencement address at the air force academy before flying on. mr. obama will attend a campaign fundraising dinner in atherton and speak at a rally in redwood city and asian-american round table tomorrow in palo alto the first visit since -- since he came out in favor of same-sex marriage. amy hollyfield will give us a live report in the next half hour >> new poll shows strong public support for same-sex marriage. a poll shows african-americans have moved more in favor of the issue of same-sex marriage perhaps taking their lead from president obama.

overall, 53% of americans say gay marriage should be legal, up from 36% in 2006. 39% strongly support it, 32% are strongly opposed. scholar from cuba's first family touring the bay area today amid a protest. mariella castro the daughter of the president in san francisco to talk about her work in sex education and push to legalize same-sex marriage in cuba. tonight she will talk at a hospital. cuban-americans who fled the castro regime and some lawmakers have criticized the obama administration for granting her a travel visa. controversial plan in oakland to ban tools of violence during protests on hold following a noisey protest.

occupy occupy -- occupy oakland members forced the commission to adjourn before it could vote. the ban would cover any items that could be used for vandalism for violence that includes shields, slingshots, hammers and other tools used during recent demonstrations. members argue they need shields and other objects to protect themselves from police. >> deepest problem is you will set a precedent on the preemptive policing of protesters. this ordinance makes it a crime to hold items that in and of themselves are not illegal. >> they say it is so broad it would -- the commission did not indicate when it will take up the issue again. west contra costa school officials will talk about getting the district out of bankruptcy. the district had a debt of more than 42 million dollars

in 1990 and made educating history by going bankrupt. the state gave the district a loan at 6% interest. school officials are ready to payoff that loan after managing years of program cuts and increasing class sizes. >> wildfire burning in nevada near the california border is moving from residential areas after destroying two homes and 17 out buildings near carson city. the fire started yesterday afternoon and has spread to 4400 ha curse. up to 200 homes were threat -- were threatened. three air tankers and three helicopters are assisting 450 firefighters. no injuries reported. calfire hasn't been shy about forecasting a bad fire season. let's see what is the weather going to be like. we have the breezes, it

this morning pakistani intelligence officials are staying a u.s. drone strike has killed four suspected militants in northwestern pakistan. drone strikes are a contentious issue between washington and pakistan. pakistan's parliament demanded the u.s. end drone strikes in the country. the u.s. says it has no intention of stopping. in two hours the director of the secret service will testify before a committee about the colombia hooker scandal. mark sullivan will tell lawmakers the incident did not result in a breach of national security. the agents don't have sensitive security documents, firearms or equipment in their hotel rooms, they didn't on night in question. four fired employees say they are going to fight their dismissals, they say they did nothing wrong. we are learning this morning former first lady nancy reagan is recovering from a serious fall. she failed to appear at a

fireworks for half an hour, traffic will be stopped in the area and there will be a huge delay especially right after the fireworks. if you are heading there, consider mass transit. it will be gridlocked in that area. just a heads up, first street will be closed friday night 8 p.m. between mission and howard. for those folks heading to the lower deck of the bay bridge you are going to have to detour around it, it has been a mess with construction going on recently and it is going to slow traffic down heading through out of the downtown area to the lower deck of the bay bridge, detours in place. here's a live shot of 280 and 17 in san jose. the roadwork on southbound 880 to southbound 280 should be cleared by 6:00. caltrans reminding drivers about the closure of the dumbarton bridge this weekend. this is for major seismic construction work.

the bridge will close starting 10:00 friday. caltrans plans to reopen it 5 a.m. tuesday may 29th. work is being done to install bearings to allow the bridge to withstand strong quakes. finished in early 2013. construction work to replace worn muni metro tracks could make for traffic headaches. beginning 7:00 in the evening friday muni is shutting down parts of the n judah and j church light rail lines for 10 days. buses will operate in place of street cars in some parts. muni is detouring the 22, 37 and 43 lines. mta will ask riders to consider walking or biking. this morning the boyfriend of a woman killed in an accident faces charges for her death. the 22-year-old seen here in a facebook photo with her son

died when the car she was in hit a tree last week. lopez had just graduated from uc berkeley. prosecutors are charging her boyfriend who was driving with vehicular manslaughter. police say he was drunk and speeding. lopez's 6-year-old son is reported to be paralyzed and on life support. san francisco's gold dust lounge is leaving union square for fishermen's wharf. the 47-year-old bar was set to close after losing its lease following a contentious public battle with the landlord owners say they will close by saturday and reopen on fishermen's wharf by september. they haven't said where that new location will be. volunteers are disheartened, but not giving up hope of finding sierra lamar. the man charged with her murder awaits his first court appearance. new search set to resume this morning. powerful winds caused trouble on a widely used road in the east bay. cucu
