p.m. tonight. there is lake tahoe area, only state route 4 requiring chains. latest work showing you snow is winding down but will pick back up again. i'll let you know if showers will decrease and end before memorial day plans gin we're getting rain drops but there is another story in the sierra. check out this video from heavenly resort. they've received a good gusting of snow dampening holiday weekend plans. and we're going take you live to the sierra to he see how people are dealing with the weather. >> and earlier today a familiar problem of wind turned up and toppled this tree. it blew over blocking a part of the sidewalk. and there are no reports of anyone getting hurt by the tree.

high winds and blowing sand along the bay area coast. san francisco great highway remains closed to traffic and no indication of when roadways will be open. autopsy results inconclusive on a body discovered in a trash can yesterday. the remains are not believed to be those of missing morgan hill teenager sierra lamar. the body found near laurel creek drive. police are releasing details and hopes the public can provide information. the body is an adult female wearing an old navy shirt with blue finger nail polish. >> and rescuers pulled a 12-year-old boy from the frigid waters and after he drifted from shore.

and they say he was about 80 feet from the edge. a team brought the boy to shore. he was taken to a local hospital. >> this is firemen come in, jump in. and a couple minutes they had him. very fast. he's being pull add long here. yes. and i don't know the reason he got in the water. i haven't heard. >> the boy part of a field trip. investigators aren't sure how, or why, i was in the water. and a side of a cliff a 13-year-old rock climbing and got stuck. emergency crews used ropes to lower themselves about 30 feet, then brought the boy up to safety. >> and new developments tonight in the legal and family drama involving san francisco suspended sheriff. they come after an abc 7 news exclusive interview with both

ross mirkarimi and his wife this week. abc 7 news is here to explain what happens today. >> and this is supposed to be a court hearing to see how mirk ream gee complying with requirements of his probation. and it's a surprise during the hearing. the attorney asked the judge to modify the stay away order so he can have phone conversations with his wife. >> and and and ross mirkarimi skypes his 2-year-old son regularly. he'd like to do the same with his wife, now back in her native venezuela. mirkarimi hasn't spoken to her in more than four months. today his lawyer argued unsuccessfully to modify the restraining order and allow him to speak by phone with his wife. this was exclusive i team

those on four. and we're live with the story. >> lawmakers want to encourage more californians to ride their bikes but not every street has a like lane. >> you have cars packing in from behind. and that is the scary part. >> this 16-year-old high school student knows it can be hairy to share the road with cars. he got hit from behind recently and ended up with bruises. >> my bike started sliding out from underneath me. i had to push off the car. i fell to the side on to the curb. i wasn't hurt. >> the california state senate approved a bill requiring drivers to give cyclists a three-feet safety zone if there is no bicycle lane or shoulder when passing from behind. it could help reduce fatal collisions. and this is to give more confidence to ride their bikes since half trips are three miles or less.

>> they're afraid to. they know that if they get hi from behind the chances of them surviving not very good. you tube video shows a crash of a prius hitting two merngs but they survived smchl told me that this proposal could aggravate the relationship they have with drivers. and the drivers aren't sure how would it be implemented. >> i'm not sure how they're going to measure that. or to be able to know the difference of three feet. >> under the proposal, it would be an infraction. and it could be fines that are expensive. >> the $35 if there is no jury, $225 if there is. when you add in court fee that's is almost $1,000 for the serious offense it would be an arm's length.
