good morning. thank you for joining us, i'm katie marzullo in for eric thomas. and i'm kristen sze. we start off by looking what the what is going on now then i'll answer your questions as we get into the forecast cloudy, a few sprinkles possible now we have flight arrive delays into sfo just announced, they are appear minutes because of the low clouds. as -- they are 57 minutes because of the low clouds. clouds back to the coast by noon and will hang there, a few will spill into the bay upper 50s along the coast mid 60s around the bay and low to mid 70s inland monterey bay 62 monterey, 70 watsonville to 74 gilroy. temperatures below average once again. we've been following an accident in san rafael for over an hour north 101 all lanes blocked at the central

san rafael exit taken off to the off-ramp and then right back on due to an oil spill it is supposed to be cleared by 7:00 this morning, minor slowing at the scene. traffic light enough all around the bay area that even though we've had a few minor problems, no delays in other spots. here's a live shot of the bay bridge toll. coming up i'll check on mass transit and the schedule for the memorial holiday. breaking news. a manhunt, shots fired, suspect clinging to life and an officer injured. this morning vallejo police investigating the second shooting involving an officer since last week. amy hollyfield is live at the scene. >> reporter: police still have this parking lot roped off and the forensic team is still here gathering evidence officers are not making themselves available for questioning so we still don't know why police shot the man. witnesses state was obvious something major happened, --

witnesses say it was obvious something major happened. witnesses tells us this start the 11:30 last night police were chasing a man suspected of stealing a car. officers ended up shooting him. people who live around here say, it was chaotic. >> sirens, tires screeching, two minutes later gunshots. >> how many? >> five to eight. >> reporter: a police officer was taken to the hospital. the witness said he was bitten in the leg by his police dog. no word on his condition or why the dog attacked. this happened on wilson avenue at farragut. this is the second officer involved shooting in vallejo in the past few days. friday, officers shot and killed a man who they say pointed a gun at them. it turned out the man had a pellet gun. amy hollyfield, abc7 news. san jose police are

searching for suspects in the murder of a 16-year-old boy on the 1600 block of virginia avenue before midnight saturday. officers found a boy dead, second victim 23-year-old taken to the hospital. police believe the killing is gang-related. it is the city's 16th homicide of the year. oakland police investigating a murder near downtown, a man found shot in the 700 block of market before 6:00 yesterday morning. he died a short time later at the hospital. police are not releasing any information about the man or possible motive. we will get an update two hours from now on how work going on the closed dumbarton bridge. the span should reopen in time for the morning commute tomorrow. crews have spent the weekend installing new expansion joint on the western part of the main span that joint will help the bridge bend but not break during a major quake. the 60 million dollar project started two years ago. it should be done next year.

the -- the 75th anniversary celebration of the golden gate ended with fireworks, great show if you didn't see it, we've got highlights don't worry, it was a clear sky, the clouds didn't come in until after as the skies lit up at 9:30 fireworks shot into the air and you can see they cascaded off the bridge as well. you have to imagine it right now. we'll try to get that video. only the second time fireworks were set off from the bridge. it was the first time they were accompanied by a light show. we'll make this up to you, we promise. suspended san francisco sheriff ross mirkarimi is not faring well in a new poll. the chronicle reports 76% of city voters surveyed agree with mayor ed lee and his decision to suspend mirkarimi following accusations of domestic violence. only 14 disagreed with lee's decision. the poll surveyed 601 city voters.

mirkarimi pled guilty to misdemeanor false imprisonment, following a new year's eve confrontation with his wife eliana low%. he says that should not stop him from being effective sheriff. tropical storm beryl made landfall in florida overnight. it is washing away holiday plans for people all across the east coast. tahman bradley reports, thousands are already without power. >> reporter: for residents along the southeast coast tropical storm beryl crashed the memorial day party. the storm made landfall overnight in north eastern florida, packing 70 mile per hour winds short of a category 1 hurricane. it continues to cause heavy rain and wind. meteorologists expect the weather system will keep dumping rain in parts of florida and georgia throughout the day. tens of thousands are already without powder -- power from georgia to daytona beach in jacksonville, memorial day plans scrapped. >> due to concerns for public safety we've cancelled our

memorial ceremony at the veterans memorial wall this storm has the ability to produce localized flooding, down trees and down power lines that can pose a threat to public safety. >> reporter: residents along beryl's path from south of charleston to daytona beach were expecting to see a storm surge of up to three feet, three to six inches of rain wind gusts up to 65 miles per hour. >> waves and winds are picking up, tides coming in. >> reporter: also the issue of rip currents, currents that pull perpendicular to the shore, forcing swimmers to swim outside their force. they are causing a mess forcing at leave 100 rescues along the coast and emptying out beaches over the busy holiday weekend. >> i'm encouraging everyone to stay out of the water that's very important. >> reporter: one bit of good news, meteorologists think upper level west winds will push beryl back out to sea by tomorrow night. that may be too late to save outdoor plans for so many this

hole day. tahman bradley, abc news. we want to get a closer look at beryl. when it made landfall, close to hurricane strength, right? >> right. very rare for this particular day, right mike? technically the atlantic hurricane season doesn't start until june 1st, a little early. moving across 10 from jacksonville towards tallahassee, going to make a loop down back around panama city and then head up the georgia coast and out to south carolina coast hopefully, over the next 48 to 72 hours. right now fog at the coast, 3/4 mile visibility everybody else okay. cool temperatures in the 50s through 7:00, as we head towards noon if you are out, you will see sun around inland areas for sure and bay coast still socked in 50 coast to 64 inland all of us should see sun by noon breezes pick up mid 50s along the coast, low 60s around the bay and upper 60s inland.

higher than the national average. number eight is all of orange county at 48%. the council for community and economic research released the list and says, housing drives the cost of living. severe weather interrupted the national memorial day concert in washington, d.c.. natalie cole and other stars took the stage last night organizers cancelled at its halfway point after a line of thunderstorms moved in. gary sinise told the audience to leave and seek shelter as pbs broadcast the concert live. they've got the problem there and of course southeast coast you have the issue with tropical storm beryl. san jose seven cooler than average. we didn't see the sun come up at 5:51. most of us should see it set at:24. faster sunshine, still cool, cloudy tonight, drizzle possible along the coast warmest afternoons wednesday to friday. winds calm now, fastest gusts 15 to 20 miles per hour that's the way they will be tkhurg the noon hour, in the afternoon they start to pick up between four and 7:00 gusts up to 30 miles per hour along the coast into san francisco, 15 to 20 inland. in the evening hours those start to taper. as far as temperatures, mid to upper 50s along the coast. mid to upper 60s around the bay shore and low to mid 70s inland expect more of the same

the a's are on the road to face the twins in minnesota today after getting shut out at home 2-0 by the yankees. boyfriend, your fans hope it is not you. l.a. county sheriff investigators want to question justin bieber after a photographer complained that bieber roughed him up. the photographer called 911 within yesterday and complained he had chest pain. he claims it was the result of a scuffle that happened at a shopping center when he tried to take pictures of bieber and his girlfriend. the couple left before investigators arrived. they have made no comment. the men in black know the secret to success. >> i promise you the secrets of the universe, nothing more. >> and the secrets of the universe. will smith and tommy lee jones' sequel men in back 3 number one this weekend. it launched with more cash than the two previous films both had opening weekends of just about 50 million. men in black 3 brought in 55

hollister low to mid 70s. -- chp saying they might get all lanes open in san rafael northbound 101 in the next 10 minutes. we'll keep you posted. minor delays in that area. elsewhere can't find much of a slow down bay bridge toll, holiday light, no problems into san francisco, you will still need to bring coins if you are parking at a meter, because they will be in force today. san jose northbound 280, 17 out of santa cruz mountains also problem-free despite an earlier crash and another live shot of the beautiful golden gate bridge. breaking news from vallejo police investigating second shooting involving an officer since last week. amy hollyfield is live at the scene. >> reporter: we just spoke with a woman who heard it all. she lives here in this apartment complex where the parking lot is still roped

off. it is full of officers from the forensic lab at the vallejo police department. she told us what she heard and saw, although police are not saying a word. they are not explaining why they ended up shooting a man last night. we are hearing that through a witness who was here last night, that police shot a man who they were chasing the man was suspected of stealing a car and that chase and shooting happened in this cul-de-sac in front of this complex. residents who live here say it was scary. >> i heard a caricom racing through and then i heard -- a car come racing through and then i heard sirens and lights and heart pounding then i heard knife gunshots boom, boom, boom, then i fell on the floor, immediately, i didn't want any bull lows to hit me or anything. -- any bullets to hit me or anything it was crazy, i heard police telling somebody to get

down on the ground and the suspect got down on the ground right there >> reporter: police officer on the ground -- she says the suspect was on the ground, police are not explaining what happened or filling in the holes as to if they shot him, why, what happened to him. a police officer was taken to the hospital. a witness says he was bitten by the police dog. no word on his condition or why the dog atack. this all happened on wilson at farragut in vallejo. it is the second officer-involved shooting in vallejo in less than a week. friday an officer shot and killed a man who they say pointed a gun at the officers. turned out that gun was a pellet again. amy hollyfield, abc7 news. san francisco police still looking for whoever atack two people shortly after yesterday's golden gate bridge 75th anniversary fireworks display. sky 7 hd was over the scene where police say two people were stabbed with an ice pick around 10:00 at beach and

taylor near fishermen's wharf. both are men in their 30s they are expected to survive. police are looking for one suspect. many of the hundreds of thousands who saw that spectacular fireworks show at the golden gate bridge will probably be talking about it this morning. the display to celebrate the span's 75th last night was enough to take your breath away. it was only the second time fireworks were set off from the bridge. and the first time they were accompanied by a light show. people who lined up hours ahead of time to get a good view were in awe. it is the best i've seen in years, ever, gorgeous. >> connecting us to a city that has been here for a long time and the people here love their city, san francisco is amazing. the 75th anniversary celebration was an all-day event music and exhibits set up from the marina green to crissy field, three miles in all. the festivities didn't mean an end to the celebrations there will be other bridge-related

events throughout the year. >> traffic back to normal this morning. i was heavy last night tens of thousands tried to make their way out after the fireworks show. before that traffic slowed to a crawl on lombard and grade lock along park presidio and 19th avenue, the brynn was shutdown for an hour last night. >> people had fair warning on name questions are being asked about the structural safety of the bay bridge. caltrans' records show a builder may have compromised the span's tower the builder did not report a section of concrete failed to harden before it was tested that meant no examination or repair was done. also, records show two of the piles built to hold up the main tower were not tested properly. caltrans inch cysts the bridge is safe. memorial -- insists the

bridge is safe. memorial day honors will get underway in a few hours, parade 10:30 from the parade grounds to the national cemetery. boy scouts and other volunteer groups were busy all weekend placing flags on each grave at the bay area's two national cemeteries, there are more than 116,000 graves at golden gate national cemetery in san bruno. another 30,000 at the presidio. in alameda, event honoring those who served in the military will be held at veterans memorial park and at the uss hornet museum the event will feature a wreath laying ceremony, tours of the ship will be available. hornet features exhibits that traces history from world war ii through the apollo moon landing and vietnam war. president obama will be paying tribute to soldiers this memorial day his day began with a breakfast at the white house hosting families who have lost loved ones in

combat. 8:00 this morning, our time, the president will continue the holiday tradition of laying a wreath at tomb of the unknown at arlington national cemetery. he and mrs. obama plan to recognize the 50th anniversary of the start of the vietnam war by visiting the vietnam war memorial. in new mexico, firefighters hope to get help from the weather this their battle against a massive wildfire two lightning-caused fires in the helo national forest have grown to 122,000 acres. the fires have burned a dozen homes and flames within two miles of a privately owned ghost town. homeowners are waiting and worrying. >> really hope that if anything is destroyed by fire that people have a good spirit and they can rebuild. >> yesterday, new mexico's governor ordered national guard troops to

them children. activists are blaming the deaths on the president's forces they accuse him of continuing to use artillery, tanks and machine guns against his own people the syrian government denies any wrongdoing. tony blair detailing his relationship with rupert murdoch. he arrived at the royal court earlier this morning for questioning on his relationship with the media tycoon. blair admitted he did not want to offend murdoch and the risk of the british media during his time as prime minister because of the power the media holds in the country. today's questioning comes in the wake of last year's phone hacking scandal. police in new york working to cement their case against the man who has confessed to killing etan patz, 33 years ago. the suspect's mental health is causing doubt on his confession. 51-year-old pedro hernandez has admitted strangeling patz and putting his body in the trash.

look great. we are continuing to follow breaking news in fremont. right now alameda county firefighters on the scene of a house fire on the 37000 block of dondero way near the nimitz traffic not affected. fire broke out around 5:30 this morning. smoke can be seen from the roof of one structure. our camera crews should be arriving as we speak we'll bring updates on air and online at abc7news.com. the chronicle reports the warriors had polling done before last week's announcement to figure out the best way to market the move. that polling found the promise of no public money and no new taxes scored well. people in the east bay seem to be supportive. poll shows 66% surveyed in alameda and contra costa
