facebook gets liked tonight by the menlo park city council. >> the newly public company wants to stretch its wings. good evening. i'm dan ashley. >> i'm ama dates in for carolyn johnson. >> facebook wants to add thousands of people and square footage and tonight got the go ahead from city officials. but despite its disappointing stock performance since going public 10 days ago. alan wang is live in menlo park where not everyone is supportive of this plan. >> as big as the plan is to expand facebook, the decision was hung up on an argument over a street corner in neighboring aterring ton. >> we are here because we are concerned the eir from the

facebook expansion project is unsatisfactory. >> cityish ifs marched -- city officials marched in to complain about a proposed second left hand turn lane at the corner of marsh and middle field road. it would accommodate the potential traffic congestion from the project, but atherton said it would be unsafe. >> one of the things we had indicated was you under estimated the traffic by 25%. >> facebook wants to expand the existing 57-acre campus and build a new 22-acre campus on the other side of bay front expressway with a tunnel connecting both campuses. it could add 600 facebook employees on top of the 3,500. but the potential traffic back up into neighboring atherton could have them diewlg in court. >> i listen to what your lawyers and our lawyers say and it is quite different.

>> you have complied with the law, and you have done it in a timely and thorough fashion. and the fact that atherton came in late with a new proposal is really not your problem. >> the city of menlo park says it will limit the number of vehicle trips to and from facebook at 15,000 a day. facebook said they hillary strict the number of vehicles and encourage employees to ride share and bicycle to work. but it nay not satisfy -- it may not satisfy them. >> we have to do what we think is right for atherton and just like as you have to do what you think is right for men low park. >> aside from the $15 million in benefits for the city of menlo park over the next 14 years, the city says the overall benefit to the entire region outweighs the squabble over the street corner. it unanimously passed the facebook expansion plan and promised to work with atherton in the future.

reporting live, alan wang, abc7 news. >> alan, thanks very much. and as a backdrop, facebook's stop -- stock fell to a new low closing at $24.84 a share. in all, facebook stock has dropped about 24% below its initial public offering price of $38 a share a week and a half ago. on paper mark zuckerberg has lost $1.5 billion on paper and is no longer one of the world's 40 richest people. an ethics commission hearing forced the suspended sheriff to continue to go on. critical decisions could be made. john alston is live from city hall with the latest. >> as you said, the ethics commission is inside and members have been added for more than five hours. at 10:00 members of the public got a chance to public on the case. the suspended sheriff is in the front row with his attorney as the commission tries to come up with procedures to deal with the official misconduct case. he pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor in a domestic

violence incident. the commission decided some witnesses will testify in person and others in writing and subpoenas should go out by june 13th. the mayor's side is fighting for more of the phone records which the share i have -- the sheriff's attorney is fighting. >> it should have been concluded by now, but the mayor filed charges before he was ready to prove them. he won't prove them at all, but at least we can establish that before the end of the month. >> arrangements are being made to have his wife testify by video from venezuela. the i-team reporter dan noyes traveled there to interview her earlier this month. she desperately wants to keep private video taken by a neighbor that has her crying pointing to a bruise her husband made grabbing her during an argument on new year's eve.

tonight the commission did not address what it intended to do about the video. the commission also decided it would take a majority vote of the five members to then pass the case to the board of supervisors which would ultimately decide whether ross gets to keep his job as sheriff. the next meeting is june 19th. live at san francisco city hall, abc7 news. jay thank you. -- >> thank you. a mother has started a campaign to crackdown on bullying after a student attacked her daughter at school. this video shows williams, a 6th grader being punched repeatedly last month by an eighth grader at hogan middle school. williams' mother posted the video on-line and started a petition to create tough new anti-bullying measures. she wants the bullies arrested and have their parents' names released. she is not happy with how the school handled the case. >> the principal said we can't

touchdown in overtime for the sabercats. the 26-year-old was just traded to the sabercats this month and showed promise immediately. he scored three touchdowns on saturday. then on monday night police found his body. >> an adults male was found deceased in one of the rooms. there is no sign of a crime or any type of foul play. >> another player found him in his room in santa clara. the team houses players at the hotel during the season. investigators won't say how curtain died. the team's head coach and co-owner released this statement saying, quote, he was such a great kid, and in the short time he was in san jose he was such a valued member of our organization's family. >> i remember seeing him on saturday night scoring our winning touchdown. >> eric is a sabre cat fan club president. >> i haven't missed a sabre cat home game probably since

planned parent hood says it has fired an employee caught on videotape helping a woman plan an abortion if her baby is a girl. the anti-choice group called live action released a youtube video of it happening. live action equiped a woman with a hidden camera and sent her to a clinic in austin, texas. she tells the planned parenthood staffer she wants to know the baby's gender and why. >> because then i would want to schedule -- schedule an ultrasound with an ob around then and then i would still be able to come back here for a termination. >> there -- >> as we said, planned parent hood fired that woman and it retrained the staff. the video was released to coincide with the house vote on baning so called sex selection abortions. six people are dead after

another earthquake. it was centered north of balona. thousands are homeless and many are living in tent cities. the ground hasn't stopped rumbling since a more powerful quake battered the region leaving seven people dead. more than 800 aftershocks large and small have been reported in the area not known for seismic activity. we want to pass along an important health item. the study out today finds people who took a low dose of asprin or ibuprofen for three years were 13% less likely to develop squimish cell carcinoma and less likely for malignant melanoma. >> if you were to take a hundred people who have squimish cell carcinoma, maybe 15 would have gotten it if they were taking a lot of

los angeles county authorities are tracking a trespasser. he was last seen in a swimming pole behind a home in monrovia. he is unoblivious to the attention he is getting and ignoring residents while swimming his laps. this suspect is described as four-legged and furry and weighing about 300 pounds. anyone who sees him in southern california is being urged to enjoy the show from a safe distance. do not approach. >> i'm sure he doesn't care. he is at the top of the food chain. a brain surgeon admits it was not the smartest idea. his plan to propose to his girl friend went horribly wrong. he decided to pop the question on a beach in florida. he buried the ring in the sand thinking his girlfriend would find it while digging. you know what happened next. a dozen people helped the couple search for a few hours. a metal detecting company finally found it and she did say yes. >> he may be a brain surgeon, but he is no rocket scientist.
