happy wednesday! it is 4:30 thanks for joining us i'm kristen sze. i'm eric thomas. caltrans reversing course and says it will contact outside expert about the safety of the new bay bridge. the sacramento bee reports the agency is making the move to ease concerns over the safety of the bridge's foundation. over the weekend it was reported the contractor failed to disclose tests showing a large section of the concrete is poor or soft. coming up, katie marzullo will bring more on the story, live from the bay bridge caltrain holds public hearing tonight to discuss adding more trains to the schedule. proposal to add six more each weekday and modify timetable will be presented at the 6:00 hearing. a year ago caltrain held similar hearings about cutting service due to a 30 million dollar budget deficit. the trains are being added because one-time funding

sources were found to balance this year's budget. the directors vote june 7th on a budget which may include adding trains back in september. search for missing 15-year-old sierra lamar scheduled to resume this morning in morgan hill. family members say they are not giving up hope even though police have arrested a man for her murder. antolin garcia-torres is due to return to court tomorrow. dive teams have been checking lakes and reservoirs. lamar's body has not been found. she disappeared march 16th. mystery in the south bay. up and coming arena football player found dead in a santa clara hotel room. investigators are trying to determine what caused johnie kirton's death. his team and fans are stunned. lisa amin gulezian has more. >> reporter: this was his moment saturday night when he scored the game winning

touchdown in overtime. he was just traded to the sabercats this month and showed promise immediately. he scored three touchdowns saturday. monday night, police found his body. >> there's no sign of a crime or foul play. >> reporter: another player found him in his room. investigators won't say how kirton died. the team's head coach released this statement saying "he was such a great kid and in the short time he was in san jose, he was such a valued member of our organization's family." >> i remember seeing him saturday night scoring our winning touchdown. >> reporter: eric is a sabercats' fan club president he placed flowers at the training facility after hearing about kirton's death. >> he was coming up, learning the offensive scheme and learning the city. >> reporter: kirton was supposed to help take the sabercats to the arena bowl in

new orleans. also slowly becoming part of the south bay community. >> a lot of the sabercats they come around here and we talk to them like they are your neighbor or somebody that is a good friend. >> reporter: the team will honor kirton by wearing stickers of his number 37 on their helmets. in san jose, lisa amin gulezian, abc7 news. this morning new poll out showing california voters continue to back governor brown's call for higher taxes to cut the state's deficit but distrust of state government could erode that support. new poll shows that 59% of those surveyed would support the governor's tax plan coupled with spending cuts. 36% oppose the initiative when it was suggested to likely vote there's lawmakers could spend new revenue on things other than schools and public safety only five% said they would support the governor's initiative, 42% say they would

vote against it. warriors land to return to san francisco by with the 2017 season could be costly. east bay officials believe the team would still be on the hook for up to 70 million dollars to help pay back off the bonds under the warriors' lease if the team pulls out for any reason before the construction bonds are retired in 2026, they still owe the money. that's the city's stance. the team's new owners appear to take a position they are only libel for payments until the lease runs out in 2017. 4:30 if i five on this wednesday morning. i thought i heard -- mike say something about 90° highs today. >> probably only in a few places still a warm-up. big time warm-up coming our way good morning. comfortable conditions we have now will be key to the forecast even in the 90s still fall back into the 40s and 50s

good morning. 4:41. live look on the embarcadero san francisco financial district buildings gorgeous this morning. we have a warm-up on the way. how hot will it get in your neighborhood? mike has that in a moment. this morning, at least 17 people are dead following yesterday's earthquake in northern italy. the magnitude 5.8 quake was centered north of bologna. 350 people were injured, 14,000 are homeless. many of them are living in tent cities. the ground hasn't stopped rumbling since a more powerful quake battered the region may thinkth, killing seven. more than 800 aftershocks in an area not known for seismic activity. a lot of people arriving to work this morning will probably be talking about the

earthquake that shook the area last night a 4.0 quake struck at 10:14 this is a look from our sister station in los angeles. the geological survey says the quake was centered in the ocean, 30 miles southwest of malibu. callers felt it in west l.a., marina delray and santa monica, as well as oxnard. authorities say there were no reports of damage or injuries. massive wildfire burning in new mexico has become the largest in the state's history. the lightning-caused fire in the national forest has burned several homes and scorched more than 153,000 acres. firefighters say the first priority is to protect lives then property. there's concern about flooding and mudslides when the moon soon season comes later. this morning the coroner is scheduled to perform an autopsy to determine how a san jose man found floating in a pond died. divers from the santa clara county sheriff's department

found the body in the alameda percolation pond yesterday. investigators have not released his identity. it appears to be the same man who friends reported missing the night before. police hope friends will provide insight into how he died. the percolation pond is on private property and usually closed to the public. police say people have been known to trespass in the past. coming up, a planned parenthood clinic caught in a video sting by pro-life activists. students at an elementary school try to make a mark on the environment by convincing crayola to go green. mitt romney locks up the republican presidential nomination. but it is donald trump grabbing headlines. i'm tahman bradley with the story, coming up. hey, i'm joey aragon.

i see smoke, then the flames. we are looking at traffic as well on 580, this is westbound 580 actually 980 in the background hard to see now. apparently, drivers are calling chp saying the smoke is visible from the freeway. we'll keep track of the slowing in the area. so far looks like there's less flames now. we'll keep you posted at that scene. we have a reporter on the way. just right here, just north of 980 and traffic is flowing well. look for street closures on 29th or 27th street at martin luther king way. try to avoid that area if you can. 580 moving at 68 miles per hour not affecting traffic at this point. that is good news there here's another live shot in san jose. this is traffic moving southbound 280 earlier you just saw roadwork highway 17

coming out of the santa cruz mountains, roadwork has been cleared. there are a couple of accidents in the south bay not causing much trouble yet southbound 101 at 87 and eastbound 237 approaching 880. by the way, while you were giving that report, katie has arrived at the scene she has tweeted a photo of the fire and linked video of the fire. you can find that on twitter and that is a two story home on fire. markers may come in a rainbow of colors but kids wants crayola to go green. students at sun valley elementary in san rafael are urging the company to recycle the half billion markers it produces. the children have a youtube video and online petition drive generated 60,000 signatures. crayola says it already uses recycling plastic bottle caps and solar energy but welcomes
