budget cuts have brown out days. there are two squadrons and engines off today. and so when they get into a multiple fire situation and alarm situation, they make sure there is plenty of staffing. we're assured there is no delay in getting them here to the scene. we're told nobody was injured and as the roof collapsed on the house, firefighters were aware waits starting to give way. they were cleared from the roof and there are no firefighters below it. we're staying on top of the story. you can see the fire department is working on this. we'll then update you on abc 7 news at 5:00 and on axe bc news at 6:00. live in san jose, abc 7 news. >> and in developing news a potential bomb shell in the preliminary hearing in the men

charged with beating brian stow, prosecutors said a videotape showing marvin norwood telling his mother by cell phone he expected to go down for it. he also told his mother he's sorry and that the co-defendant lee sanchez was involved. the two men face felony charges in the beating in the dodger stadium parking lot and stow continues to recover from a severe brain injury. >> police were in a standoff today. and orlando wes ling was taken into custody. and there is a cash donation allowing police to use their surveillance chopper. >> the suspect had this going since morning after several atemtss to reach him while he was holed up in his grandmother's house. in the end the s.w.a.t. team was called and he was brought

out without injuries. this is the a-year-old orlando wesling be led away after a tense standoff that prevented others from getting to their homes. >> he's wanted for home invasion robbery. >> police received a tip the men they had been looking for, for weeks was inside and an order was given. a 5-year-old did not. >> so we were treating him as armed and dangerous. >> s.w.a.t. officers fired multiple rounds to force the suspect from the house and use their chopper to observe any attempts he may use to flee. >> we hope he comes out. >> katrina has two children with the suspect. >> and the police raided the house and said come get your kids. >> the toddlers with him at the time of the raid sending this mother into a panic. 50 my kids that. is all i'm worried about right now. that is all i want to get. my kids. >> they she got her kids and

the cops got their man. a major cool tool used today was the chopper providing units with much-needed support from above. made possible by a $10,000 donation from a nonprofit group. >> today that we're able to make the helicopter fly because that have donation. >> just to give you an idea, that $10,000 will allow them to do 80 hours of fuel time that were used for occupy protests and aid in collaborations like one, today. to give you an idea of how much they needed that money there. >> this chocher has not flown full time since 2009. >> a police say mark duncan managed to walk through an emergency exit in san francisco -- san diego airport and on to a plane with no

the dog go over eefrg police found their passenger. police swooped in, arresting the suspect who had not deemed a sear threat since the delay for passengers. the incident was another shocking security breech like when this man walkedded through an unmanned security post to kiss his girlfriend goodbye. it stopped operations for six hours, police say the parole has an extensive criminal history, only charged with trespassing. >> and a uc berkeley police officer has been cleared of wrong doing for fatally shooting a student inside of a classroom in november. an investigation concludes the officer had no other options than to fire. the 32-year-old student was pointing a gun at officers as well as 11 other students. the report states he had previous conpron taigs was oakland and berkeley police.

>> an alert police officer helped police catch two graffiti taggers. they spotted the two spray painting gang graffiti on a column supporting bart track. the officer found spray paint cans and marijuana in the vehicle. police say the pair is responsible for tagging 17 different locations in san leandro. >> a teenager charged with setting fire to an elementary school two years ago received an eight year prison sentence. he was 16 years old when police say he and another boy set the fire that destroyed 16 classrooms, a school library and administrative offices. he is charged as an adult and pleaded guilty to felony charges. his co-defendant remains in custody and set to appear in court june 19th. >> san francisco mayor ed lee gave police good news today.

though will get a boost in staffing levels. vic lee is live with details. vic? >> this is a big bonanza for the police and fire departments because they're losing their vietnam-era cops and firefighters. the baby boomers are retiring so the mayor is simply trying to stop the hemorrhaging with the new classes. >> there will be more classes like this at the police academy. the new budget includes six academy classes, totalling 300 officer candidates. and it gets better. >> we'll continue to hire three classes for six years. >> the department is about 200 officers short thousand. from the city charter mandated force of 1971 officers, expecting to lose close to 300 more officers over the next three years.

and that is because of the anticipated end to a program offering retired officers several more years work while defering pensions. many will be gone. the classes will include teaching new recruits new technology and like using computer tab blets to write up reports. >> if we get officers more connected they can stay out on patrol longer, back and forth to desk top computers goes away. >> the fire department got good news, there will be one class every year for six years with a goal of hiring 252 new recruise. -- recruits. the department has been at a low in staffing. >> in recent years we haven't been able to hire to match the levels of retirement we've had to place heavy reliance on overtime. >> it's been a big concern

police in seattle looking for a gunman that opened fire inside of a cafe this morning and killed two men. it happened in cafe racer near the university of washington. police say the gunman entered and started shooting. three people were wounded including one with life threatening injuries. investigators say it may have been sparked by domestic violence. >> there is a scary moment for passenger as board an american eagle plane. the commuter plane headed to the terminal. the tail got clipped by the wing of a boeing 747 cargo plane. officials say the contact was minor and both plains being checked for damage. nobody injured on either plane. >> if you're thinking of taking a trip you might want to avoid flying this weekend axe cording to a study the most-expensive weekend of the summer to fly is june 1-3 likely due to the number of people who turn memorial day into an extended vacation.

to pacifica. up into the upper 80s range, antioch close to 90 degrees so there is a wide range of temperatures this, is typical in the summer time. there is an early taste of it. temperatures now 55 in half moon bay to 89 degrees in antioch. highlights, patchy fog tonight. there is warm inland throughout friday, then cooling off, turning breezy for weekend. so this is not going to hang around. here is a deal satellite and radar showing thu is warm patterns, warm days expected especially inland for thursday. and there is what is going to hold temperatures down is the sea breeze and fog. we'll see a little bit of fog in the morning. upper 40s into cool yeflt location buzz most of the bay area into low to mid-50s. there is clearing earlier, coastal areas into low 60s range, inland areas into low 90s for thursday afternoon.

police denying claims made by the sister of the man charged with killing 6-year-old etan patz saying her brother pedro confessed to doing something terrible insifd his prayer group. >> i said i need for you guys to check it out if it is true or not.

school this, is what happened around 3:30. and witnesses say a gunman came across the area, shot a student right here into up yir thigh, then ran off, police say that an ambulance happened to be in the area, you can see bandages are still left behind from about an hour and a half ago. they grabbed a kid and took him down the street. and students tell us there is a lock down about an hour after this happened. and this is we're told he's an 18-year-old student here, we don't know what the motive was. witnesses tell us the gunman has dread locks and african american and appeared to be
