49 santa rosa but it is cooler this morning than yesterday at this time. anywhere from six degrees cooler up by the delta, five degrees cooler in oakland with a little bit of a breezy wind and two degrees cooler in san jose. so low clouds and fog have pushed across the bay, and we will have an early burn-off today. so about 9:00, 10:00," you will notice mostly sunny conditions. westerly winds will be up again to keep it breezy. and anticipating bigger changes on the way for tomorrow that could spell some rain. we will talk about it coming up. carolyn. >> thank you, lisa. >> in the news this morning, the santa cruz sheriff's department is investigating san francisco giants slugger pablo sandoval. after receiving a sexual assault complaint against him. sandoval's attorney said the 25-year-old world series champ voluntarily spoke with sheriffs investigators early friday morning. so far no charges have been filed. abc7 news reporter reports the investigation is ongoing.

>> reporter: san francisco giants third baseman pablo sandoval is facing a strike that could end his career. a woman has alleged that sandoval sex wally assaulted her. he had a short reply to the charge. >> i know you guys are going to ask about this question, so i thought process going on so i can't talk about it. >> a dep with the sheriff's department said a woman report the the assault friday morning. >> she stated that pablo sandoval was the alleged suspect. and that he was still at the resort that this alleged crime happened. >> the resort is the seascape resort near santa cruz. this is where deputies questioned sandoval. >> he wasn't detained. he wasn't arrested. he cooperated with us and came down to the share you have's -- down to our sheriff's department and we interviewed him with his attorney present.

>> his attorney, erik given, would not discuss it on record. he released this statement. he met with the sheriff's department related to a personal, consensual relationship of that took place on that day. he cooperated with the sheriff's department out of respect for the process. we have no further comment at this time. the deputy said the reporter vic tame timpner and sandoval met thursday night. >> thursday night a small group of people met in a downtown business, downtown santa cruz. that small group of people left, went to a resort in aptos. >> where the sexual assault wad reported at 4:00 friday morning. while the alleged incident pave happened here, they said, sandoval was not a registered guest. he's been with the giants since 2008. he hasn't played a major league game since may 2nd due to an injury. the sheriffs deputy say they are taking these allegations seriously. >> the santa cruz county sexual

assault team is investigating the days. they say they don't know how long the investigation will take, but the results will be turned over to the county's district attorney. in san francisco, i'm thomas ramon, abc7 news. >> news of the investigation spread quickly at last night's giants-cubs game. all of the fans we spoke are are standing behind the player. >> he's been a great player the entire time in san francisco. there's no doubt in my mind whatever is said about him will all be cleared up. >> as a man i think he's innocent. i it's someone out to get him and i don't believe the allegations and he's a stand-up guy. >> as a die heart fan of the san francisco giants, my support will not behinderred one bit. i will continue to support the giants and i will continue to support pablo sandoval until i see hard facts. >> sandoval could be back in the giants line-up as early as next

friday. this morning vallejo police are looking for more information about a dark colored sedan connected to a fatal shooting last night in a city park. four people were shot from a passing car during a barbecue at crest ranch park just after 8:00. at 57-year-old man died. three others remain hospitalized this morning, including two critically injured victims, a 67-year-old woman and a 17-year-old boy. police say a 35-year-old man suffered a less severe wound to his arm. the detectives are hoping anyone with information with the shooting or the car involved will give them a call. high winds made it hard to control few fires on the peninsula yesterday. a brush fired burn about 7 acres above brisbane. also in wood side. the wood side fire threatened to spread after flames began burning in a canopy of trees and started heading toward other

homes. one firefighter was taken to the hospital for heat exhaustion. 7 to firefighters brought a fire near brisbane under control after about 6:00 last night. at one point 100 homes lost power because of the fire. the wind whipped flames, and searching even acres. >> if the wind changed directions we were concerned the fire might extent into areas of structures in the city of brisbane. in addition to that, there was some delay in us get to go some areas of the fire because of the fact the power lines were down. >> two air tankers and a helicopter made several passes dropping fire retardant. they suspected wind brought down power lines in the area, setting off the fire. the bay shore off-ramp was closed for a time, but there were no evacuations and no injuries. tomorrow santa clara county dive teams will resume their search of uvis reservoir looking for missing morgan hill teenager

sierra lamar. it's been 11 weeks since she disappeared while heading to school. police have arrested a man from morgan hill on suspicion of murder and kidnapping in connection with her disappearance, but her family and friends have not lost hope of find hearing alive. they continue to raise money to conduct weekly searches like the one held yesterday. the santa clara county dive teams tell us they will wrap-up their search of the reservoir on tuesday. >> coming up next, syria's president makes his first public comments following last weekend's massacre that killed more than 100 peel, half of them children. and a live look now, the highlight of the queen's diamond jubilee celebration is about to get underway along the tems in london. we will have a preview.

leaders have traded blame for the incident that has brought worldwide condemnation. in egypt this morning relative calm has been restored in cairo hours after nearly 10,000 protesters filled a square showing their anger following the verdict in the trial of the former president, hosni mubarak. pro forecasters are still demonstrating today in the square yesterday he was given a a life sentence after the court found him guilty by association in the killings of 900 protesters during last january's uprising that toppled him from power. thousands of people protested in the streets, calling for mubarak's execution instead of that life sentence. others were outraged that six top commanders were acquitted of the same charges mubarak faced. the race for the white house heats up and so does the crossfire on abc's "this week." coming up at 8:00, two of the

rain. more clouds than wind than anyone else but as you head outside now a couple nice-looking shots for you. this is mount tam. you see the marine layner the distance. a lot of sunshine. 5:49 was the official sun advise. and closer to home, around the bay, high definition emeryville, and we do have a good deal of cloud cover out there. you can see the golden gate bridge there just glowing with really a nice start to the day in some parts ever the bay. but we will be looking at a little bit of change today mainly in the form of some wind and slightly cooler temperatures with those really noticed in our east bay valleys. so 52 in oakland this morning. good morning, napa. down to 49 for you, as well as santa rosa with 50 on the coast. pretty good visnovskyible. 54 san jose, 63 antioch but enough of a breeze that will keep the numbers in the lower 80s today. when we see the flow from the coast all the way to the delta,

we do have some comfortable temperatures with the range. 30 degrees spread, 60s coast, 80s inland. three degrees cooler in redwood city but nine degrees cooling in san rafael, and so partly cloudy this morning. we will look for the cooler conditions mainly inland today, but those winds will be picking up. so with a few high clouds, it should be a pretty decent day. numbers will still be fairly typical for early june and then we will see cool and windy conditions tomorrow with a chance of showers mainly in the north bay, but we could see some even in oakland and on the peninsula throughout the afternoon. now a big dome of high pressure finally giving way and shifting to the east so we are in between weather systems with this system here continuing to pivot this area of low pressure. and as it does, it's going to push this cold front further south. but today still under the influence of that compression, that heating, that high pressure overhead so that will bring us

some of those 80s again today and comfortable 70s around the bay before a cooler parcel of air comes our way, possibility of some showers, and this is going to lift over to the sierra nevada with numbers coming down there as well as much as perhaps an inch of rain in the sacramento valley. back home just light rain, not everyone will see it, and favoring the north bay. by the afternoon tomorrow, some light sprinkles, perhaps, and then it pushes off over to the east. we will still look for some breezy winds behind the system on tuesday. as for today we are still looking at warm numbers in the southern sierra. 89 there. 101 palm springs. pack home looking at 80 today in concord. that's about four degrees cooler than yesterday. 82 livermore, and 75 fremont. oakland snip day, 72 for you. more sunshine in the city. breezy winds there, though, mid-60s with 65 monterey. plenty of races around the bay,

down the river. a big part of the celebration of the diamond jubilee. and back here at home, here we go again. sacramento's budget cuts are forcing cities to put parcel tax on tuesday's ballot to fund local schools. hayward has measure g, west contra costa county measure k and union center is hoping to pass measure 8. school districts warn without the taxes there will be dire consequences. here's education reporter lyanne melendez. >> 18, 12, 25. >> these first-graders at alvarado elementary are learning about money, while the school district tries to operate with fewer state dollars. every year the district has been forced to make drastic cuts. for example, in just four years the district's budget has gone down from $114 million to $88 million.

>> its good to live within your means, but that's a huge, huge cut to our means when you are trying to educate 13,000 children. that's a lot of money. >> that's why the unified school district is supporting measure h. a parcel tax could create $3 million a year for the schools. it's not enough to get them where they were before, but it will help save some programs. >> our libraries, elementary science classes, kindergarten to third grade will go up to 30 next year. >> that puts added pressure on teachers and students. >> in the past we've had 20 kids in a classroom and it's very manageable. >> in order to balance this year's budget about 100 teachers in this district have been laid off. >> i have ten. i'm here at the site. i believe i'm the school with the most. >> measure h would help vince keep his job. the parcel tax would chad $180 to a homeowners tax bill. that's $15 a month. last year a similar parcel tax

miles, an area bigger than dallas, texas. flames driven by hot, dry winds. >> we are struggling and praying that everything turns out okay. >> it may be burning in an isolated area, but already this year wildfires have blackened more than 700,000 acres. ten states are facing above normal chances for big summer fires. >> in the west it's not a question of if, but when you are going to have a wildfire. >> with a potentially dangerous fire season on the way, there's renewed concern about a serious shortage of air tankers that are critical to fighting a blaze from above. critics worry the nation's tanker fleet is shrinking. in 2006 the us forest service had 44 large air tankers on call. today, only 11 and they are getting older. in 2002 the ntsb found stress cracks in the wings of this 1950's era tank they're broke apart in california. three people on board were killed.

>> dangerous chemical used in dry cleaning is being phased out here in california, but state regulators say we may still have to live with the toxic legacy for years to come. in this morning's assignment 7 report dan ashley takes a closer look at the problem leaching into our soil and drinking water across the state. >> at crystal cleaning center in san mateo, owner lynette uses a chemical called perk for short to clean the stains. >> it's the favorite solvent because of how well it cleans. >> she owns what is likely the last perk washing machine sold in california. she said if it is handled correctly, it is safe, but this method of dry cleaning is on the way out. >> i think it's a little bit of an extreme phaseout. california is really the only state that has taken such a progressive stand. >> dry-cleaners have been using the liquid solvent since the 1930s. other industries have also used it as a lubricant. in 2007 the state air resources board ordered perk phased out

because it is linked to cancer in laboratory animals. >> there have been many studies now looking at workers exposed, and the evidence is definitely suggestive that eats a human carcinogen. >> according to the national institute of environmental health sciences, short term exposure to perk can cause dizziness, fatigue, headaches, sweat being, lack of coordination is unconsciousness. long-term exposure can cause kidney and liver damage. it's toxic legacy will likely be around for years to come. >> it can get into the air from the soil. so it's very volatile. it would rather be in the air than in the soil. it also gets into the drinking water. >> so that's the problem with perk. it's found in too many place where it shouldn't be. >> todd thompson is with the state water board. he said unsafe practices and accidental spills have

contaminated ground water all over the state. it's even gotten into drinking water. >> it's a large problem statewide. we have over 1,000 cases active in the state that we are cleaning up. >> but it isn't just ground water. the soil is contaminated at this site in emeryville. it was once a business that recycled perk. now it's considered so dangerous, workers need special training to even walk around here. the state department of toxic substance control shot this video for us. >> because of those operations and those activities we now have a legacy associated with this contamination. >> not only is it potentially dangerous, it's expensive to clean up. this job alone costs $1.3 million to cleanup and it could take more than a year to finish. already more than 600 other contaminated sites have been identified around the state. some of the cleanup costs will be paid for by businesses, land owners and insurance companies. taxpayers will pick up the rest. >> within the bay area we may

thousand feet but it will clear quickly to the coast today. that will allow some sunshine. and we will look for pretty decent day with numbers in the 80s again. the east bay values, plenty of 70s around the bay. temperatures continue to drop in napa and santa rosa. while we have the clouds on the peninsula and a switch here. partly to mostly cloudy in san jose. 54 for you. mountain view 55 and san carlos 52 and low 50s in concord and livermore. partly cloudy to mostly cloudy this morning. a little bit cooler and breezy today with some higher clouds. otherwise we will look for still a few low 80s instead of the mid-and upper 80s today. cool and windy conditions tomorrow with a cold front on the way. yes, a cold front for early june. we are talking about a few sprinkles and maybe one could see a tenth to quarter inch of rain. oakland picking up a few raindrops. take a look at our water vapor

imagery. this doesn't look like something we see in june. it's not out of the question. a little unusual. but you can see a pretty well-defined cold front off the shore into the eastern pacific and it's holding to the north and west. we still have a weak ridge of high pressure over the bay area today. but with partly cloudy skies we will have a few higher clouds and the west winds, on shore winds from 10 to 20 miles an hour today. so definitely breezy in the city. so if you are headed to the giants game you will have some sunshine. numbers will be dropping to the 60s. good day for a game today. the weather holding because tomorrow this system sinks south. so even if you don't see the rain, it will be windy and temperatures as much as 15 degrees cooler in some spots in our valleys compared to where we were over the weekend. so that includes the tri-valley, and also about ten degrees cooler in the south bay. 4:00 tomorrow afternoon, you see a few areas of perhaps some

light rain from the north bay along the peninsula. maybe even in the south bay. we have rain in the sierra nevada. high elevation snow. it will be breezy and on the back side of this system into tuesday, not much of a warmup. we will see a return to the sun but it will take a while to recover. so this heat will be gone after today. the showers already along the north coast. 90s in sacramento. we talk about the giants game. nice afternoon. a few more higher clouds out there and breezy. numbers dropping to the 60s and back home we see 72 in oakland with 82 in livermore. 78 in san jose. you are coming down a few degrees. starting out a little cloudier. and we have the coop down, maybe some light rain tomorrow. still windy behind the system on tuesday. about a five degree warmup on wednesday. back to low to mid-80s by the rest of the week. so that would be about normal by week's end. >> okay. >> i just want to mention some

of the delays at sfo are not weather related. they have closed a runway to do some work. so that's part of the problem. but, yeah, weather always plays a role. >> yeah, around here. >> thank, lisa. consumer advocates say california has one of the strongest lemon laws in the nation. a reason case involving an alameda couple put that law to the test. here's 7 on your side's michael finney with the story. a lot of times we had to bring that car in to ford. the paperwork, it was a big, big stack. >> mel waldorf goes through the pile of repair orders he's accumulated since purchasing a ford flex like this one in 2010. a few weeks after he drove it off the lot he began noticing problems. >> there was a shutter in the braking, and there was a rattle in the roof. >> it was a problem noted by ford in a technical service bulletin. sent to its service centers just two months early.

ford 2010, all-wheel drive vehicles may have a shutter vibration or a noise while driving at low speeds. mel said ford had barely fixed that problem when another developed. >> there was a chrome panel on the rear hatch that was starting to lift off from the body of the car. the rear left-hand door, the driver's side rear door didn't close completely flush with the car. >> once again, the car went back to the shop. >> all these concerns were extremely stressful. >> that's his wife. he used the car to drive her daughter and for her business. >> i'm not a car enthusiast. i like my cars to be safe, practical and reliable and that's why we got this car and it turn out not to be the case. >> the biggest problem was with the transmission. >> when i first noticed the first problem, which was the

problem to me was when it would stall as i was making a turn. the other things were sear -- irritating, but that one just really scared me and i felt really unsafe driving. >> that was the same problem noted in a ford technical service bulletin in january of 2011. in fact, in all there had been 13 such bulletins issued about the flex since 2010. mark anderson is a lemon law attorney. >> a consumer described substantial defects. defects that substantially effect the use or safety. no doubt about that because a transmission obviously is pretty essential. >> he said in california a new car is presumed to be a lemon if it's been in the shop 30 days within an 18-month period. records kept by mel show his flex was quickly approaching that threshold. he contacted 7 on your side. we contacted ford. and it graciously agreed to give mel and jessica a brand new flex. >> i want to thank michael finney and all the staff on 7 on your side that made it possible for us to get this car that we finally have been wanting for
