good morning, thanks for joining us. i'm carolyn tyler. let's start with a quick first look at the weather. here is lisa argen. >> lisa: good morning, we're looking at partly cloudy skies from high definition emeryville camera. we will see the clouds clear for the most part. south wind is blowing. temperatures are still quite mild outside the delta. enjoy today, numbers coming up again into the 80s. we've got a nice summertime temperature spread despite the cooldown since yesterday at this time. the numbers will be trimmed back a few degrees but that is nothing compared to a 15-degree drop tomorrow. we'll have the fog clear the coast. more sunshine, warmth inland and then it looks like a return maybe to see showers. >> carolyn: queen elizabeth is braving rainy weather with

majestic colorful flotilla of 1,000 vessels celebrating her 60 years on the british throne. they are waving the union jack and waving hello as the royal family sailed past including william, kue9 and harry. lama hasan reports from london. >> the queen, william and kate have arrived to be part of this massive armada. tugs, yachts, canoes they are here in honor of the queen. on the river bank, a union well wishes, armed with their flag. cheering her majesty and her 60 years on the throne. before the jubilee celebrations begin on saturday with what the queen loves, a day at the

spirit of khadwell. it's a w a barge with all of them on it. >> a fitting way to celebrate this unthinkable queen. >> it is going to be a spectacular day. river pageant here. parties across the united kingdom, they will be partying like it's 1952 which, by the way, is when the elizabeth became queen. >> they are investigating san francisco giants slugger pablo sandoval after receiving a sexual assault complaint against him. his attorney says the 25-year-old world series champ voluntarily spoke with sheriff's investigators early friday morning. so far no charges have been filed. tomas ramon reports the investigation is ongoing. >> reporter: san francisco giants third baseman pablo

sandoval is facing a strike that could end his career. the woman says he sexually assaulted her. they had a short reply to the charge. >> i know you guys are going to ask about these questions. the process is going on. i can't talk about it. >> reporter: dep a deputy says a woman reported the assault friday morning. >> she stated that pablo sandoval was alleged suspect and that he was still at the resort at where the alleged crime happened. >> it's the resort is in aptos where deputies questioned sandoval. >> he actually cooperated with us. came down to our sheriff's department and we interviewed him with his attorney present. >> his attorney would not discuss the allegations on camera but release this had statement. he met voluntarily with the sheriff's department related to

a consensual personal relationship of a sexual nature that took place on that day. he fully cooperated with the sheriff's department out of respect with the process. they say the reporting victim and sandoval met thursday night. >> thursday night, a small group of people met in a downtown business, downtown santa cruz, that small group of people left at for the resort. >> where the sexual assault was reported. they told abc7 while the alleged incident may have happened here he was not a registered guest. he has not played a major league game since may 2nd due to a wrist injury. they are taking these allegations seriously. >> they are investigating the case. they say they don't know how long this investigation will take but the results will be turned over to the county's district attorney.

>> carolyn: news of investigation spread quickly at last night's game. they are standing behind the player known as the panda. >> pablo has been a great guy his entire time in san francisco. there is no doubt in my mind, whatever has been said about him will all be cleared up. >> i think he is innocent. i think they are saying this, i don't believe the allegations for the panda guy. >> as a die-hard fan of the giants, the support will not be hindered one bit. i will continue to support the giants and continue to support pablo sandoval until i see hard facts. >> he could be back in the giants line-up as early as next friday. >> this morning vallejo police are looking for more information about a dark-colored sedan connected to a fatal shooting last night that city park.

four people were shot from a passing car during a barbecue at quest ranch park. a 57-year-old man died. three others are hospitalized this morning including two critically injured. they say a 35-year-old man suffered a less severe injury had to his arm. detectives are hoping anyone with information about the shooting or the car will give them a call. high winds made it hard to control two fires on the peninsula yesterday. a brush fire burned about 7 acres in the hills above brisbane and a three-alarm fire destroyed a home in woodside. woodside fire along highway 35 threatened to spread after flames burned in trees. one firefighter was taken to the hospital for heat exhaustion. 70 firefighters brought the brush fire under control after

6:00 last night. at one point about 1500 homes lost power because of the fire. the wind whipped up flames threatening homes and scorching seven acres. >> if the wind had changed direction, we were concerned the fire might extend into areas of structures in the city of brisbane. in addition to that there was delay and trying to get to some areas but couldn't because power lines were down. >> they dropped fire retardant. investigators suspect the wind brought down power lines in the area and that set off the fire. a nearby off-ramp from highway 101 was closed for a time. there were no evacuations and no injuries. >> coming up next, a game show host icon who hosted family feud for nearly two decades has passed away. also, syria's president makes his first comment following last week's massacre that killed

he won an emmy award for best tv show host in 1978. american audiences first met him in hogan heroes. later he played a darker role in the running man. this morning as the final kiss goodbye to richard daw son, dead at the age of 79. the man who killed tryz has returned to florida, did trayvon martin has turned himself in. a florida ordered george zimmerman back to jail after recorded conversations between his wife and him of how much money they had. he launched a website for pay pal link and within days he collected $200,000. less than two weeks later the defense team said he was broke.

top prosecutor will appeal the vevtd in hosni mubarek's trial. relative calm has been restored after 10,000 protestors filled tahrir square showed their anger over the verdict. he was given a life sentence after the court found him guilty by association in the killings of 900 protestors during last january's uprising that toppled him from power. thousands of people protested calling for mubarak's execution. others are outraged that six top commanders were acquitted of the same charges that he faced. you may be sleeping in this morning, 35,000 to 6,000 people party last night. the fun lasted until 1:00 this morning. it was party for a purpose. ♪ >> paul simon, he had head lined

breezy for you this morning as well as towards fairfield. look at the numbers, 60s and 70s in parts of north and east bay. 20-degree spread from san francisco to antioch. cooling direction, numbers will be trimmed back a couple degrees today. in fact this morning, we're five degrees for mountain view and san jose, redwood city three degrees cooler. clouds are clearing out. we will look for a slightly cooler air mass today. so instead of the hot temperatures, warm numbers inland but with partly cloudy sky, a few high clouds lingering in the afternoon. breeze picking up along the coast. 20-25 miles an hour in. then the cool, windy conditions and spotty showers tomorrow in the north bay, you can see as much as perhaps half an inch in the higher peaks and some thunder possible. showing a cold front, holding

the moisture in front of us. the edge of high pressure holding on today. that is going to bring us a pretty nice afternoon. as we go through the next 24 hours, this area of low pressure continues to sag south. then it's going to slide our way pivot this cold front into the bay area tomorrow. morning commute, 4:00, 5:00 we to could see rain showers. in fact around 9:00 here is the front it begins to wash on out but not before it leaves light rain showers, average of tenth to sprinkles here in over in the east bay. north bay, marin, sonoma, maybe a quarter of an inch of rain. temperatures only in the 60s and windy conditions, as well. so today ahead of the system, plenty of 70s, 80s and 90s with desert heat from palm springs and las vegas. not sacramento and the cool rain showers to the north. if you are headed into the city

today, numbers will be in the 60s with those breezy winds and sunshine and dropping 60s. east bay in the low 70s. 80 degrees in concord. cooler today. san jose coming down a couple degrees, 75 in fremont. morgan hill, 80s as well as gilroy with breezy winds and cloudy skies for watsonville. looks like the showers could begin the wee hours of the morning, then weather pavement may mess up the morning commute but not recovering until the middle of the week. last year at this time we had an inch of rain. >> really. >> remember the early june storm. >> carolyn: no, i don't. not like that but still, notable for sure. >> carolyn: you sound all excited about it. voter poll finds california voters wanted to side track the high speed rail project saying the state has higher priorities to spend $68 billion. the poll shows the majority of voters would like another chance to vote on the bond measure approved in 2008. the outcome of the survey made political leaders on the defensive for pushing efforts to begin construction this year. now according to this poll, 55% of voters statewide would like to see the issue placed back on the ballot. if they could vote on it today, 59% say they would vote against it. >> here we go again. sacramento budget cuts is forcing people to put parcel taxes to fund local schools. there is measure "g" and measure "k" is helping to pass measure

"h". they say there will be dire consequences. here is lyanne melendez. >> reporter: these first graders in union city are learning about money. while the school district tries to operate with fewer state dollars. every year the district has been forced to make drastic cuts. in four years the district's budget has gone down from $114 million to $88 million. >> you have to live within your means but that was a huge cut to our means. when you are trying to educate 13,000 children that is a lot of money. >> they are supporting measure "h" a parcel tax that would raise $3 million for schools but that money will help save some programs. >> our libraries, our elementary science classes, kindergarten to third grade will go up to 30

next year. >> the kids definitely new. in the past we have had pressure that vase manageable. >> in order to balance it about hundred teachers in this district have been laid off. >> measure "h" would help them keep the job. parcel tax would add $180 to a homeowners tax bill. that $15 a month. last year a similar tax failed by a few votes. some residents would like to see cities and school districts to raise revenue without raising taxes we're piling more stuff on people that are going month to month or week to week however they are surviving. >> we use all the traditional measures and then some to try to make this work. there are very few options.

they are not seeing any major delays. sfo closed one of the primary runways for scheduled maintenance on friday, meaning three out of four runways are operating. it cuts down the number of planes that can land at had i given time. the work is scheduled through 8:00 tomorrow morning. >> after 75 years, this afternoon united airlines flight to denver will be the final oakland departure. back in april, united announced would it eliminate flights to denver hub because they are not profit aj anymore. united was offering eleven flights a week to denver. they will still provide that service out of sfo and san jose. coming up next, an arizona woman leaves her five week old baby strapped on the roof of a car in a car seat and drives away.

>> carolyn: a mother is charged with child abuse after placing her five week old baby into the car seat and then leaving him on the roof of the car after she drove off. it's what she did allegedly did before she drove away that has sparked so much anger. >> police say the 19-year-old mother did the unthinkable, after putting her one-month-old

son strapped in a car seat. she forgot he was there and drove off. the baby tumbled off the roof and landed right in the phoenix intersection. >> we were astonished. >> this homeowner was one of the first to respond to the baby strapped in his car seat in the middle of the road. >> couldn't believe it. car seat was turned to the side so people couldn't tell if there was a baby in it. >> it appears that she was driving a ways and the car seat fell off the car. there was damage to the car seat. it was scraped but there was no damage to the child. >> how could she drive on? oblivious to her son? it turns out she told police she was high on marijuana. >> it does not appear she immediately realized what happened. i think perhaps she got where she was going and realized that she did not have the baby in the car. >> we believe that whatever she

was under the influence of was the deciding factor in what did happen to this child and we're extremely happy that for the baby this turned out well and baby is going to be okay. >> now the baby is safe and sound with arizona's child protection services. the mother is under arrest charged with aggravated indictment and child abuse. -- d.u.i.. >> the woman had been smoking marijuana but the baby is okay. lisa argen is here with a preview of what is ahead for us weather-wise. >> we still have clouds to the south of us and we're looking at brighter conditions and pretty nice day later on. temperatures are in the 50s. you can see the beach in santa cruz. we'll be looking at sunny skies around the bay, even above normal in some spots. tomorrow, umbrellas, jackets, just about everything.

on ron rincon hill is an achievement specifically to withstand a strong earthquake. it's the subject of a scientific study. jonathan bloom explains. >> reporter: the white concrete is the epitome of modern but it's because of what happened more than a century ago. >> if you were standing right here in 190 have you would have seen a city in rubble. >> it begin a movement in engineering to make a building to stand up with the shaking. one like this one. >> this is most structurally advanced designs of any building in the united states. >> reinforced by a metal sub structure, it's called performance based engineering. how does it work? we're about to find out. >> the instruments that have been placed in this building. >> they are tucked away and connected by two and a half miles of cable, they measure the

bloom, "abc 7 news." >> san francisco firefighters honored two of their own, vincent perez and anthony sharerio died one year ago yesterday fighting a fire in diamond heights district. they held a public memorial at station 26 blocks from the fire where both men worked. officials blame the men's death of a flashover. >> one of the members was sent home but we actually saved the life of another firefighter. the other firefighter and fourth firefighter that stayed home, he could have saved his life, as well. >> it left a big void in the family. you have to to go forward and keep on going.

>> carolyn: a memorial garden and plaques in honor of them were dedicated at the station. in new mexico an area larger than the city of commission is burning right now in the worst wildfire in the state's history. more than 200 firefighters are battling those flames. meteorologist ginger zee has the story. >> at this point it's colossal. look at those flames chewing away at the national forest. over 1200 firefighters have been attacking the blaze while above flames with slowing it down by unloading water. it's the largest ever now covering 350 square miles. that almost the same size as the city of chicago. >> the humidity lel is at 2%, extremely low. it does motd help firefighters. >> reporter: the fire started back on may 9th and it has not

let up since. >> it's did difficult terrain and making sure we don't lose a firefighter or anyone who is fighting the fire because of the differ terrain that we are dealing with. >> look at this, white haze on a satellite image is thick hard to breathe smoke that is spreading throughout mexico but into colorado and arizona, too. and the weather is not planning on helping firefighters anytime soon. >> we really don't feel comfortable until we get a significant amount of rain. that won't be toward the earned of july. >> carolyn: the fire is about 17% contained. it's been breezy and gusty as well here. >> lisa: cooling trend continues this morning, coming down compared to where we were yesterday, nice and mild in the east bay. here is a look at emeryville. see some clouds, partly cloudy and roof camera looking at few more clouds and also that marine

layer that is sitting along the shoreline. it will purpose back and we'll see a sunny afternoon but cool at the coast and winds up to 20-25 miles an hour. 70s in the north and east this morning. we're on our way to another pretty nice afternoon compared to what we're going to feel like tomorrow. enjoy it out there. 59 in san carlos as well as mountain view, if you see anything you don't want weather, you have to do that tonight because rain is coming in. it is cool out in concord and mountain view as well as san jose. we have the partly cloudy skies turning sunny with a few high clouds and still breezy winds. onshore winds keeping it gusty at the coast if you are spending any time at our beaches. then the winds behind the front al passage will keep it blustery not only tomorrow with the passage of the front but on

tuesday, as well. we're talking about a cold front in june. to the north of us we are looking at the rain and in fact we are looking at the front holding together. you see all the moisture with it last time we saw a stronger cold front but we will be looking at this to continue to progress to the south and east. but we have one more day to salvage where we'll enjoy sunshine and more typical june like day with 70s and 80s around the bay. as the low continues to dig and sink south, it gives the cold front through the bay and that is why we're going to look at the blustery conditions, drop of 10-15 degrees. this, 4:00 in the morning, rain begins to sink south and spotty like rain showers even on the peninsula. this is about noontime. you look at the rain showers marching into the east bay, higher elevations of the north and east bay maybe a rumble of

thunder. in fact maybe a half inch well north up in sonoma and napa. today we're still looking at 90s in central valley, 89 in yosemite, 72 in los angeles. push headed in the city. sunny conditions but it will be breezy and 60s dropping into the 50s by the middle of the afternoon. 72 across the bay in oakland with mid 70s for the east bay. around hayward, castro valley, union city, tri-valley area will enjoy the low 80s. sun will shine at the beaches but it will be cool, around gilroy and hollister, low 80s today. replace that with a wintry like, spring like showers and you'll notice that temperatures beginning to recover the middle to end of next week. it happens and it's going to happen. will feel a lot different throughout. >> carolyn: credit card companies are offering a lot of reward programs these days but it can hard to figure out which one is best for you. michael finney has some tips. >> credit card companies have used reward programs to attracted customers for decades. >> frequent flyer miles and credit card programs that were associated with them were the earliest reward programs that were in the plashgtd places. >> reporter: brian is president of loyalty rewards marketing firm. he says consumers earn about $48 million from reward cards. one-third of the rewards typically go unused. >> most programs have some form of inactive policies that cause it to lapse. the other thing that a lot of them are earned and consumers don't think when making sure they utilize the value they obtained. >> with the number of programs

showing up in your mailbox it can hard to pick the best program for you. >> it's not alleges one size fits all. we would say generally cash rewards can get a cash back credit card, that in the long run is probably going to be best. >> joe rideout says the way you receive your reward should play a big part in which card you choose? >> if you can get the rewards credited to you in the storm fom of a statement. that is easiest of all or get rewards for n cash. >> and then if you can have it apply to your balance you don't have to wore about the expiration date. she uses her cash rewards car to travel frequently. >> they call it miles but it's actually cash rewards. i managed to go to africa on it and just returned from china.
