it is dry outside right now, but wet weather is returning to the bay area. good evening, everyone. i'm alan wang. >> i'm ama dates. the rain is expected to hit just in time for your morning commute. leigh glaser is here with the forecast. hi, leigh. >> behind me you can see live doppler 7hd already picking up the moisture bands from this cold front that continues to slide from north to south across the northern part of our region. it will bring the bay area some showers as we head into our monday morning. you can see just in the last few frames we are picking up a little moisture now. it goes from cloverdale to ukiah . it is not that far off that it will be moving in across the bay area. the clouds are already starting to thicken up.

this is the cold front. and remember it is moving ever so slowly toward the bay area. it will bring us showers off and on tomorrow. a detailed look at our accu-weather forecast is coming up. >> leigh, thank you. tonight we are learning more about what pablo santo value was doing before a woman -- sandoval was doing before a woman accused him. thomas? >> we have learned that pablo sandoval was at a santa cruz bar hours before he was accused of sexual assault. the bar manager there says while there sandoval acted normally and left with two male companions. the bar restaurant is where the giants allstar player was socializion with fans. they told us off camera that he was at the bar for a couple hours and they left at about 1:15. cook said he didn't see sandoval leave with any women, but that women were coming up to him for photographs while

he was here. the santa cruz county deputy says the victim of the alleged assault met with the third base manet that -- third base man that evening. >> downtown santa cruz. that small group of people left and went to a resort in aptos. >> that is a resort in santa cruz. that's where the woman called to report the assault. investigators questioned sandoval and at their offices, but did not detain them. he is currently playing with the san jose giants while recouperating from a wrist injury. he declined to address the accusation. >> i know you are going to ask about these questions. i cannot talk about it. >> his attorney claims the sexual encounter was consensual. dean johnson seases says these kind of celebrity cases are hard to prosecute because celebrities often arrive with a presumption of innocence.

fueling the blaze that began 18 days ago. it has now burned about 377 square miles. a man who oakland police say insta date -- instigated a drive by shooting in front of an officer is behind bars tonight. at 3:30 this afternoon an officer says he watched as this man opened fire from a car at people on the sidewalk. it was at martin luther king junior way. a chase began, but it ended when a driver crashed into another car. in all three people were injured and one with a leg wound. >> in vallejo they are still looking for a gunman who killed a man and wounded three others who were barbecuing at a park last night. the wounded included a 17-year-old boy in critical condition and the 35-year-old man was shot in the arm. the 57-year-old man was described as a harmless resident. >> as far as we know he didn't do anything to nobody. he came around and hung out and fix him some food every now and then. >> i think it was a random

shooting thing because they are not that type to be causing problems. >> the dead man's 67-year-old female companion was also wounded. she is expected to survive. police in scots valley need your help solving a string of recent burglaries. is it it started on mount herman road where tree trimmers were stolen. then on the same road someone tried to break into a walgreens. a half hour later a liquor store on scots valley drive was broken into and cash was taken. the suspect vehicle is a white work truck with a white rear bumper and ladder. >> despite in crucial measures on the upcoming ballot this tuesday try mary election is expected to have a lack luster turnout. lilian kim is here to explain why. >> alan, turnout is expected to be among the lowest in california history for a presidential primary. experts say there is no particular race or issue that is driving people to vote.

international airport. after 75 years in the east bay the the final united flight departed. in april they announced they would end service because the flights are no longer profitable. oakland airport officials say it has southwest airlines still that will continue to serve the denver market with 28 weekly flights. san francisco's mu knee says the busiest lines will be back tomorrow morning. but parts of the j church line will start running full service tomorrow morning at 5:00. right now muni is running test trains along the route. the current bus bridge will end at midnight when regular service begins. the lines were closed may 25th for construction work. also tomorrow morning, the san francisco bay ferry launches its new service between south san francisco and the east bay. ferries will begin running from the new oyster-point terminal to oakland and alameda. the first trips are free, but you have to sign up on the company's website to get a ticket. go to abc7news.com and click

on see it on tv for more. and right now astronomers at the space and science center are preparing for two more major astronomical events that will be visible in the bay area. the first is a lunar eclipse happening in a matter of hours. to view the eclipse the object object -- observation deck will be open. and then venus will pass across the face of the sun. hopefully we will have some visibility to see all of that happen. >> if you still have the glasses from the lunar eclipse we had. >> the solar eclipse. >> that's right. >> i think 4:00 is the best viewing tonight or early tomorrow morning for the partial you nare -- partial lunar eclipse. we have a beautiful full moon out there right now as we look from the high definition camera. by 4:00 a.m. tomorrow morning the clouds will start to move in though. visibility of the lunar eclipse may be a little

marginal. venus may be a little better. the current reading, 67 in antioch and 59 in livermore and 58 oakland and 55 san francisco, 60 ran raphael. mountain view is 60 degrees as well. the highlights are taking us in through much of the workweek. showers develop tonight. they are lingering through monday with an isolated thunderstorm. a possibility that it will be cooler tomorrow. the wind picks up with the southwest gusts close to 30 miles pir hour. per hour. that is mainly near the coast. get ready for a dryer and warmer temperature as we head into the middle and latter part of the workweek. checking in with live doppler 7hd you can see most of the activity along the north coast extending down to fort bragg. just in the last few frames we noticed some returns to the rest of windsor and also up toward ukiah and even willis and the main parts of the system are still off the coast sitting about 39 miles to the west of the coast there near fort bragg. all of this will be sweeping

in overnight tonight. it does look like the rain will begin here in the bay area. it is just in time for the early morning commute. here is a look at the frontal system and the rain ahead of it. we have to get to the back edge before we can see some partial clearing behind the cold front. a parcel of very cool air. the temperatures in some locations tomorrow will drop anywhere -- as much as 15 to 20 degrees from where we have been in the past several days. our timing, 11:00 this evening and we will start to see the clouds thicken un-- thicken up overnight. you can see friday to tomorrow morning it is just in time for the commute. that's when the first bands of rain start to stretch into marin county from santa rosa to the golden gate bridge. it looks like the funnel system will bring us some moderate rain . that's 11:00 noontime tomorrow. you can see it extending down toward the peninsula and heading toward the east bay. there is the front.

it moves off toward the sierra. by 5:00 commute time tomorrow afternoon we will see some partial clearing, and we will start to clear out by 9:00, 10:00 tomorrow evening. it comes in and brings us the rain and then moves out. if you are heading to the sierra, i would throw some chains in the back. we will see a lot. there is a mixed bag with snow, rain, strong winds, isolated thunderstorms. the snow levels will be dropping to 5,000 feet. 5 inches of snow are possible in the passes. one 2 -- one to two inches. it shouldn't stick around for long. rainfall for nuts north bay. a quarter to half an inch possible. trace amounts to a quarter of an inch. it will move in quickly and then move on out. here is a look at our highs for monday. it is generally in the 60s. midto upper 50s. 66 for livermore. we will also look for 63 in hollister and 61 in santa cruz.

good evening. i'm ama dates. >> and i'm alan wang. in tonight's headlines. we are learning more about how san francisco giant pablo sandoval spent the hours before he was accused of sexually assaulting a woman. he was at a bar in santa cruz before moving on to a resort in aptos. experts say this will be a hard case to prosecute given sandoval's celebrity status. a man is behind bars in oakland after he started shooting at people near mlk and 29th street in front of a police officer. the suspect sped away but didn't get far after crashing into another car. three people were injured. and vallejo police are trying to track down a killer who fired shots into a group of people at a barbecue. a 57-year-old man died. his female companion and two others were wounded. nigeria's president has declared three days of national mourning after an airliner crashed in the country's largest city. the plane carrying 150

passengers went down in lagos just shy of the airport. it killed everyone on board and left a scene of destruction on the ground. here are the details. >> the passenger jet was carrying some 150 people. there were no survivors and it is not clear yet how many casualties will be on the ground. thousands rushed to see what would happen in this neighborhood in sub saharan africa's largest city. billowing black smoke, scattered fragments of a plane, bodies. the jet on route from the capital city to lagos was just about to land. a boeing md83 flown by private local carrier donna airline. it was flying unusually low and making a lot of noise before it tore through at least two buildings, coming to a stop in an apartment complex. the cause of the crash is not known, but officials say they did recover the cockpit recorder.

we were sent pictures of the disaster in a neighborhood this afternoon. the man who sent them was too sad to be interviewed. "i got to the scene and the situation was beyond what i can talk about." he said. "i am in tears while writing this." abc news, nairobi. back here in california a close call for a pilot in southern california. his plane went off the runway in gillespie field in el cajon. you can see the accident in these still photos taken by a witness. the ferry fire fly was part of the wings over gillespie airshow. the pilot was able to get out safely. turning to medical news, what could be a breakthrough in the fight against breast cancer. an experimental new drug appears to slow tumor growth. today researchers presented the results of a large three-year clinical trial at an on koll gee conference. oncology conference.
