case no word on what that conflict might be. developing news from oakland. miss say they will have more information later today about a shooting involving one of its officers. this shooting took place near the corner of 105th and e-street 7:30 last night. the man in his 20s taken to the hospital in stable condition and is expected to survive. another person questioned police are not saying anything about that person or the circumstances surrounding the shooting. terry mcsweeney will have a live report coming up. oakland police say they are seeing a drop in the city's rising crime rate in the past month. over the past four weeks major crimes dipped 17%. burglaries dropped 20% violent crimes down 14%. the city says new crime fighting strategies and help from other agencies why major factors. all eyes from wall street to main street will be focused

good morning i'm eric thomas. and i'm kristen sze. police on the san of a fatal shooting. >> amy hollyfield is -- is there live with the latest information. >> reporter: a long overnight investigation. police have been here since 11:45. they are still here.

they got to the scene right after the shooting. they got here quickly thanks to their shot spotter system. they the killer or killers were already out of here so they were not able to catch begin they did find a 31-year-old man lying in the driveway he was taken to the hospital and died. police say according to the shot spotter system nine shots were fired in this area. they have no idea what the motive could be. i asked if it was possibly gang-related? they say they don't know. it doesn't appear this could be at this point. what surprised officers is where this happened. east palo alto is known to have some pockets of dangerous gang activity but they say this neighborhood is not one of them. what their big request is this morning is for any witnesses to please come for.

anyone who knows anything about in shooting to please call and help them out. right now they do not have suspects. amy hollyfield abc7 news. developing news. a man hospitalized this morning after being wounded by oakland police. he's the sixth suspect shot bye-bye area police in the past four weeks. terry mcsweeney is live -- >> reporter: i'm here at the police department hoping to get more information on the shooting. we have questions also answers as to what happened last night. we know oakland police officer shot a person and that person is expected to survive. video from the scene of the shooting. last night a police officer shot a man in his 20s. police are not saying what the circumstances were. how those two came into contact with each other where he was shot, whether the person who was shot did have a gun.

they are saying he's expected to survive. police not confirming the officer who did the shooting is a female. abc7 news crews saw officers checking out a dark colored two-door sedan at the scene. we don't know how that ties in. they were interviewing people but we are not getting the information about how this ties together. why the officer shot the person. what about the car the other person. we hope to have more answers later this morning. terry mcsweeney abc7 news. 5:31. in san mateo county the district torn is investigating fatal shoot -- the district attorney is investigating fatal shooting involving a police officer. 15-year-old derrick gaines was killed tuesday night. family and friends gathered to remember him and demand answers. police say gaines and a friend were acting suspiciously. this video shows them running past the gas pump.
