sky 7hd is live over oakland as the chp prepares to shutdown a stretch ofo 580 to make repairs to high voltage power lines which they are working on right now as you can see. >> this after a close one on this hillside. fires sparked by those lines threatening a dozen homes, and it all started when a driver took out a power pole. good evening. i'm carol lip johnson. >> i'm dan ashley. the driver but is hospitalized, but is expected to be okay. >> tonight though the aftermath of the crash means a major freeway is about to

shutdown. 580 between 98th and seminary and southbound 13 at davenport are closing so pg&e can repair the power lines. we have live team cumpleg. thomas r has more. andsure.with ama dates and >> reporter: carolyn, i am actually on the hill theks to where the fire -- next to where the fire burned. we are over 580. we got off at edwards and then came up the hill because it is a great vantage point to where the road will be closed down. again this is supposehappen rigt happen right about 11:00. so any moment now. it was supposed to happen, and pg&e need extra time to get the equipment out to get lines the lines strung. i spoke to them about what exactly they would be toking, and i spoke to chp about the delay in the closure. >> initially we were looking

this whole mess started with the car crash. the impact brought down a power line triggering a grass fire that nearly destroyed several homes. thomas roman is live with the race to save those homes. thomas? >> you can see the pg&e crews working behind me. d it knocked out the utility 6700 homes. it started a two acre fire. the chp tells us there are no skidmarks before the car hit the pole at 40 miles an hour. this buick century started a three alarm fire and a power outage at the same time. she smashed into this pole at 1:40 p.m. it broke the car into three. a section smashed through the wind shield and steering wheel and stopped inches from her chest. they pulled the woman to safety and away from the power lines. >> we helped her get out of the car. we grabbed the purse and headed over to this curb and set her down. >> a bible is still on her passenger seat.

she then she then saw that the car started a fire. >> at the time the fire was raging and going fast up the h hill. >> >> a third alarm was called when it threatened three homes above mountain boulevard. lois chambers was evacuated as the flames came near. >> they thoked on the door. they knocked on the door for who ever is in the house to come on out. when i opened the door i could only see white smoke everywhere. it is so scary. it is all-around me. >> chambers' daughter knew her mother was evacuated and was rushing home when she saw the flames. >> on the freeway i could see the fire going up the hill. the only theing i could think is our house is gone. >> it came within inches of the homes here. the more than 100 firefighters on hand knocked it down. >> we had a gully at the bottom and a street on the top and a street on the right.

we did have a natural break from the fire which we were able to figure out where the fire was going. >> oakland police have not identified the female driver, but say she is in hospital with cuts and bruises in stable condition. the fire danger will be high in these hills this weekend. reporting live in oaknd la, thomas roman, abc7 news. fire conditangerous fire condis are expected in some areas of the bay tomorrow. sandhya patel is here now with more on that. sandhya? >> when you look at the wind speeds, you can see why the fire danger is expected to be high. look at sfo. 37 miles an hour. 30 miles an hour around fairfield out of the southwest. those gusts will continue and even increase near the delta. 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m., the gusts are expected to be about 45 miles an hour. it cussers the sacramento valley and the -- it covers

attacking brian stow will face mayhem, assault and battery. a judge ruled there is enough evidence to allow a jury to hear the case against sanchez and norwood. that followed testimony from a witness who claimed to have seen the attack as well as sanchez's sister who described her brother and her fiancee ordering her to drive from the scene following a fight that left blood on norwood's hand. the prosecutors played a recorded jail house conversation they say amounts to a confession. >> stowe continues to recover from a brain injury that has left him disabled and requiring care for the rest of his life. there wasth a deadlyion with a deadly jewelry store robbery. four men tried to rob golden treasures at gunpoint.

the owner fired back in self-defense killing one of the robbers. tonight a hayward man was taken into custody and charged with murder as was another suspect arrested a week ago. they are being charged under the provocative act doctrine where defendants can be convicted for actions that provoke a killing. health officials are scrambling to figure out the cause of a new e-coli outbreak that killed a little girl and sickened 14 people in six states. the latest case is here in california. the largest cluster in georgia. the other cases in louisiana, alabama, tennessee and florida. the centers for disease control and prevention believes all of the victims connecticut tracted the -- contracted the same strain. it is not known yet if this is a food borch outbreak. -- 2350d -- food born outbreak. and they are ransacking a million dollar mansion. when it was over a picasso was missing. >> and we have been here since monday afternoon waiting and waiting.

think about. antioch is 61 degrees. gusty winds, 25 to 30 miles an hour right now. clear and tbusy in spots. warmer for all areas this weekend. the fire danger increases. you can see aanimation of wh animation of what the fire danger is expected to look like. breezy patterns in place. lower pressure inland and higher pressure over the pacific. that creates a strong on shore wind pattern which is why it has been breezy and windy. tomorrow we will hang on to the wind flow. even though it is going to be warmer and windy for your saturday, watch what happens to the winds on sunday as the high pressure builds in land we will start to see an offshore flow pattern developing. winds. when these winds pick up, really the air starts to dry out. the humidity begins to drop which is why we are concerned about fire danger here.

hey everybody i'm lisa quinn, welcome home. we're doing something just a little bit different today. normally i find my home owners for our make overs through facebook and through referrals but today it's a little bit different. what do they say? what's that old line about a friend need is a friend indeed. i got a friend in need; a very good friend who's a fellow designer and he needs a makeover and he wants my help. let's meet michael now. i think my room is veryver. i love green; so i went with a color that most people really dislike and that's what always surprise me is the reaction i get to the color in there. i don't know maybe it'll play different on camera but in real life it's kind of soothing, it's kind of nice but i want to change it up. i want just something really different, i want more calm, i want more peace, more serenity and little puffs of color just to keep it alive. you got a nice bedroom in here michael.

it's not bad, it's not bad. the whole place is cute. needs a little help. when you do this for other people you never finish your own place. right, i know. that's the same thing about mine; everybody always says your house must be so beautiful but i got to say it's something that happens when you're in your own home it's just to subjective it's hard to make good decisions sometimes. we've got tons of cute stuff. well first of all what is it that you like about the room? i want to keep this space here love this armoire. it's beautiful. what do you keep in there? a tv. okay. it's my entertainment. definitely want to keep the table lamps over here by the bed. they're beautiful. other than that you can have as much fun in here as you want. i like that. i mean, i love my art but you can mix it up anyway you want. so tell me about this designer peter dunham. he's a designer who's a based in los angeles and i just really love his work because it's based on really classical design but it's done n a really whimsical way. he does light walls with really great color all over the place and i just
