>> good evening. >> ama: one high school, two graduation ceremonies. that was the case in brentwood today after some heritage high students played what they called a branch on campus. school officials were not mused. lisa amin gulezian is live from the high school. >> lisa: the number of students suspended just keeps rising and their absence at the graduation here was definitely noticed. all the traditions of graduation day are here at heritage high school. the music. the caps. the gowns. but because of the senior prank which many also call a school tradition, roughly 80 seniors are missing.

>> just like someone not walking, and pretty much all the years at hair tan. >> they're banned from walking across the stage because of this. school officials are calling it vandalism. students left printses all over campus and championed a lam to a post overnight. the school's principal had this to say during the week. >> consequences have been assigned to those who have been identified as being involved. >> 67 students have been suspended and many more didn't attend the graduation ceremony. opting instead to stand by their friends off campus at an alternative ceremony hosted by parents of suspended students. these are photos from that graduation. >> if had the choice to walk at the school i would have chose the separate graduation over walking at the school. >> more than 500 people attended the alternative graduation today. that means 500 fewer people were here at a ceremony normally

packed. also out of the norm, several brentwood police officers were on campus just in case. >> though there were no problems, this parent is sure there were lessons learned. >> you have to take the consequences for your actions, and that teaches them, too, when they grow up, this is how it's going to be throughout your life you. can't do stuff and just get away with it. >> reporter: even though the graduations are over, the issues are not. a judge will decide on thursday whether to let the suspended students take a new set of final exams if they missed them this past week. live in brentwood, lisa amin gulezian, abc-7 news. >> alan: an rv packed with six people, 12 dogs and four cats caught on fire while driving down the road today this morning in alameda county. one of the men inside the rv said the fire started near the sink and spread so quickly they were unable to put it out.

the fire destroyed the rv, killing one dog and four cats. >> when it happened the dogs went running. every was going this way and that way. the rv is burning down, and there's still a dog in there. crazy. >> alan: now northwestern red cross is helping the group with tear shelter. the people, all from colorado, were traveling up the coast. lamb lamb a fire gutted a house that housed a psych tick parlor in los gatos, a viewer sent in these photos. flames around through the roof of the building after 7:30. firefighters quickly contained the fire to the business but there was major damage the structure. no one was hurt in the blaze. firefighters were called out to the stanford linear site for a hazmat scaimplet someone reported a strange odor at 8:00. firefighters arrived at the lab and discovered a battery on a

fork lift was overheating, causing the smell. seven employees were evacuated and examined by paramedics as a precaution. >> alan: trouble in the sky as a pilot takes drastic measures to save his life. the only stretch of land long enough for an emergency landing, golf driving range. the plane took off from concord, and the mass roman is live writ all ended at the driving range. >> reporter: right here at the buchanan airfield golf course and driving range. look behind me. back there 300 yards away is where the cessna 172 had to make an emergency landing. the appearance of a plane coming down stunned golfers this morning. this is the plane after it made an emergency landing here at the buchanan golf driving range. the range is right next to buchanan field in concord, where the plane was attempting to land. according to the faa the plane lost power over walnut creek at

9:35 this morning. the pilot, who was alone, tried to glide it into buchanan but fell 700 feet short of the runway, chang lee who runs the cafe saw it come in he. >> airplane crash down on top of the golf course, and then landed second tee box nearby the fence, just one foot from the fence. and i think pilot, he jumped out. >> reporter: the pilot jumped outen harmed. the plane sustained some damage. it was removed from the driving range this morning. the faa and ntsb can both investigate egg -- investigating the emergency landing. in 1985 a plane crashed into sun valley mall which lies just east of buchanan field, that crash killed seven people and injured

many others so anytime a plane comes in too low, it causes some concern. reporting live, abc-7 news. >> alan: in the north bay, police arrested a man who struck and critically injured a cyclist in sonoma county. a professor of environmental studies is still in a coma after being struck on petaluma hill road. the highway patrol says an off-duty police officer spotted a pickup truck with front end damage that matched the description of the vehicle. robert coward was arrested, and he said he fled the scene because he was late for work. >> ama: san jose police arrested three people in connection to the city's 18th homicide. police detained two 18-year-olds and one 19-year-old after a deadly shooting outside a karaoke bar just before 3:00 friday morning. police say a 25-year-old san jose man was killed in the

shooting. officers arrested the three mean after their getaway car was seen leaving the steen. >> alan: pablo sandoval returned to the giants' lineup amid an ongoing sexual assault investigation. sandoval batted third and played third base during the game at at&t washing. he has been on the disabled list since may. sandoval was questioned by authorities last week after being accused of sexually assaulting a 21-year-old woman. the sheriff's office says it could take a couple more weeks to complete their investigation and determine whether sandoval will be charged in the sexual assault case. shu will have highlights from san sandoval's return to the giants later on in sports. >> ama: a surprising new survey hour energy efficient we are. >> alan: the belmont stakes without i'll have another. >> ama: the duke of edinburgh's road to recovery. his immediate plans after been

well. lamb lamb the president was forced to clarify his remark. meanwhile there are more worries ahead for the u.s. economy. moodies is considering reducing the credit ratings of five of the six biggest u.s. financial funds. that would likely increase borrowing costs for their clients. we'll have much more on this story at 530. >> alan: a poll shows a lot of americans think saving energy is a good idea but have trouble doing it. six in ten people think driving a fuel efficient car would help save them new jersey but only one in four americans say it would be an easy thing for them to do. the poll found that people share the same beliefs about car-pooling and installing installation insulation in their homes but haven't gotten around to doing it. lamb.

>> alan: parts of southern thighland are under severe glad watches, rain and overflowing rivers are being blamed for the flooding. 2500 people have been evacuated. there's been no reports of deaths caused by the flooding. flash floods are causing evacuations in the united kingdom. this is video from royal air force planes flying over wales. heavy rain is being blamed for flooding at this village. more than five inches fell in just 24 hours. several residents had to be rescued in life boats. >> ama: no flooding here but we have the fire danger right now.

>> alan: leigh? >> leigh: we certainly do. those winds today have been pretty gusty out of the west. now they're starting to shift to more north to northeasterly and the offshore wind component is going to be with us. the red flag warnings in effect for the higher elevations around the north bay and east bay locations. overnight, and those winds are really starting to pick up right now. here's more detail. five weather watch, regular-flag warning until 11:00 tomorrowle north bay, east bay hills, including the diablo range. gusts close to 40 miles-per-hour expected. extremely low relative humidity. that is the content of the moisture in the atmosphere. we're talking relative humidity down as low as 15 to 10%. so, very dry conditions expected the next 24 hours. checking out the wind gusts. out of the north already shifted. in santa rows sack gusts to 22.

bringing us a beautiful sky. and the coast warmed up, mid-to-upper 60 ssms we'll do that again tomorrow but the north winds will be with us tonight so low clouds and fog remain well off the coast, and mild interior east bay. antioch, 65 tomorrow morning. concord, 61. elsewhere, wide-spread mid-to-low 60s, with higher gusts in the higher elevations. today it has been breezy conditions, thanks to the westerly winds. but you can see on the next animation, overnight the winds are going to shift more to the offshore wind component. a warm wind direction so the higher elevations overnight tonight, we'll more than likely remain in the mid-or maybe upper 60s for overnight lows, and this is prompting the red-flag warnings, when those winds come offshore, that wind, that care come -- compresses close to the
