good morning, thanks for joining us. i'm carolyn tyler. let's start with the weather with our meteorologist lisa argen. >> lisa: good morning, here is the view from tam at about thousand feet we're looking at pretty gusty winds. at the surface winds are calm and atmosphere is heating up. but red flag warning above thousand feet for the next couple of hours, with wind gusts up to 40 miles an hour. relative humidity in livermore right now is at 19%. it's at 9:00 so we are looking at these northerly winds to continue to be quite breezy through 11:00. with the relative humidity so low in napa, livermore and mountain view we're looking for single digit relative humidity

today. temperatures will be 5-10 degrees warmer this afternoon. 71 in mountain view. i'll have the look at the forecasted highs that include 90s in a few minutes. >> carolyn: new this morning, a fire near petaluma early this morning is under investigation. it destroyed a mobile home. the fire began around 2:00 this morning. investigators are not sure how it started. the mobile home is a total loss. flames spread outside to surrounding vegetation which is a big concern for firefighters this weekend because of our dry, windy conditions. crews from three fire agencies helped keep the fire contained. no one was injured. bay area firefighters will be challenged again today trying to keep small fires from growing into bigger ones. a crew of 50 jumped on this nine acre brush fire fire along highway 87 yesterday. several freeway ranlsz had to be

shut down are all open again this morning. it took two hours to get the fire under control because the winds just get stoking the flames. >> it was a wind driven fire. they found themselves chasing the fire. >> it's the wind and low humidity, it's the wind direction. there are several factors involved in this. yeah, when there is red flag warnings and everybody on a heightened level of alert. >> carolyn: signs are being changed to reflect the current fire conditions. a brush fire that threatened hillside homes in hercules last night is now deemed suspicious by investigators. this morning federal air safety officials will continue their investigation into yesterday morning's emergency landing of a small plane on a concord golf course. the pile had taken off from buchanan field when the plane lost power. news reporter tomas ramon shows

us where he was able to set it down. >> reporter: the single-engine cessna land near the buchanan golf course. the pilot tried to glide back to the field but fell short by 700 feet. lee saw the plane come down. >> it was nearby the fence, one foot from barricade of the fence. i think the pilot, he jumped out. >> reporter: he did manage to jump out of the plane without injury. some golfers found a different obstacle played on. the plane is used by pacific aviation, a flight training school. they declined comment. >> it's unfortunate but it happens. >> pielt the pilot said he did the right thing in choosing an

open area. >> you look for open areas. you can't make it back to the airport and their case they were too low but fortunately there was a golf course. >> reporter: planes flying around buchanan field have had problems in the past. a twin engine beechcraft crashed into at small south of airport. several people died and dozens more were injured. no one was hurt in this accident. n.t.s.b. is investigating the accident. >> carolyn: this morning oakland police are searching for a suspect who shot and killed a young man on a scooter. it hatched at 63rd and avenal avenues yesterday afternoon. multiple shots were fired from a passing car. the victim who was left bleeding in the street died a short time later at the hospital. in antioch, police are investigating a fatal shooting at a graduation party early

yesterday morning. police say someone opened fire on the party killing a man and injuring another. police are not releasing the victim's name. search continues for suspects. in sonoma county police have arrested a man in a hit-and-run that critically injured a cyclist. steven miller was professor at sonoma state university is still in a coma this morning after being hit on petaluma hill road. an off-duty police officer spotted a pickup truck with front end damage matching the description of the suspect's car. he called police who arrested robert towers friday afternoon. according to investigators the suspect said he left the scene of the crash because he was late for work. >> three teenagers face charges in a deadly shooting in san jose. police say two 18-year-old men and a 19-year-old are believed to be from union city were

arrested after the getaway car was spotted leaving the scene. they are suspected of being involved in the fatal shooting of a 25-year-old san jose man early friday morning. it happened outside a karaoke bar at strip mall on center road. later this week a judge will decide if dozens of suspended seniors at heritage high school in brentwood will be allowed to make up the final exams they missed last week. yesterday was graduation day. all the seniors graduated but not at the same places. not in attendance the 67 seniors who were suspended after a prank school officials call vandalism. they graduated off campus at an alternative party hosted by parents of suspended students. >> if i had a choice to walk at the school i would have chose the separate graduation. >> you have would take the

consequences for your actions. this is how it's going to be throughout your life. >> carolyn: in a rare move. administrators called in several police officers to the traditional graduation ceremonies just in case but there were no problems. >> tomorrow is the 50 year anniversary of three prisoners escape from alcatraz. they say they are still searching for the only inmates to ever escape from the rock without being found. trio slipped out in 1962 vanishing without a trace. most experts say they believe they drowned but the u.s. marshals say they are continue their hunted until they are arrested or positively identified as dead. morris would be 85 now. the others 81 and 82.

>>. >> carolyn: developing news in alabama, a lot of questions and few details as police investigate a multiple shooting near auburn university. according to police, several people were shot last night at the university heights complex. no arrests have been made. abc television affiliate reports three deaths are confirmed by a local coroner with two other victims hospitalized in serious condition. an auburn university is confirming that three auburn university football players may be among the victims.

tweets claim the shootings occurred during a pool party when several men were arguing over a woman. the romney campaign is already cashing in on president obama's economic comments made on friday, that is when the president said the private sector is doing fine. a new mitt romney ad features eight people discussing their personal economic woes including job losses, no healthcare/pensions. it closes by saying, no, mr. president, we are not doing fine. president's remark he later clarified that was a hot topic of debate on abc's this week. >> he was creating wealth with his partners at the ex pegs have massachusetts when it showed as he was governor. this is a debate that the american people is interested in. >> this administration has done more than to crush more in

business than any in history. i can't tell you the number of people that just say i lived through bill clinton. i didn't think it was that bad. it was a little more regulations and less under bush, but obama is whole new scale of regulation that is crushing the free enterprise system in this country. >> carolyn: latest unemployment figures show 8.332% which is the economy is the biggest issue -- 8.2%. >> a wildfire in new mexico is destroying homes and raging through a pine forest this morning. the 10,000 acre little bear fire in lincoln national forest broke through containment lines damaging 20 homes and other structures. some have been evacuated. flames are encroaching on a mountain community. lincoln national forest is where a little bear cub was found after a fire back in the 1940's.

he became the fire pre-vehicles icon, smoky the bear. fire threat in colorado, 46 homes have been skreakd because of a rapidly growing fire in larimer county. that fire has spread to more than 5,000 acres. ten structures have been damaged. the cause is still unknown. we are concerned here in the bay area about high fire danger. >> lisa: it has been extend in order monday morning. so we are looking at higher elevations and even around livermore and napa and valleys, relative humidity is 19% and dropping. roof camera, it's 60s and 77 in napa. we'll talk about the heat and fire danger and when we can expect the sea breeze coming up. >> carolyn: also next, lebron james and miami heat are returning to the finals because

the tsunami and now the debris is drifting toward the west coast of the united states. tokyo estimates five million tons of debris were sunk into the ocean, 1.5 million tons may end up on the shoreline. >> you need to look out abandoned drums, things that may contain oil or hazardous material, fuel tanks, things that pose an immediate threat to the environment. >> good news the debris is not radioactive. the problem at the nuclear power plants happened a day after the tsunami washed out the debris to sea so experts say it's unlikely to pose a threat. >> the ipad has given millions of users a new way to think and communicate, now it's helping a group of orangutans at a zoo. they love playing with new gadgets. older ones, not so much. the young ones have been drawing

trees moving but you know the north bay mountains, a little higher higher up to the north and napa and east bay hills gusty winds. napa and livermore, relative humidity at 17%. concord at 19%, live doppler 7-hd, usually we can show you the rain but the cloud cover. of course this morning, not only rain free but no low clouds or high clouds to show you. we're always on top of that and always looking at the current conditions which right now we are forecasting through 8:00 tomorrow morning, the red flag warning about thousand feet. wind speeds 15-20 miles per hour with gusts up to 40 miles an hour right here from napa, solano county and into east bay hills. diablo range, 9:00 this morning look at these temperatures. 75 in mountain view. 74 in san jose. 77 in napa. at the surface the wind is

pretty tough so our numbers are warming very quickly. 59 in half moon bay. 70s at our coast today. if we compare this to the wind speeds right now, you'll notice it's quite calm here but also up in fairfield we have a gust at 20 miles an hour. really through the next couple of hours we could see the wind speeds pick up. oakland hills, higher elevations 38 miles an hour. point reyes, northwesterly wind at 25 miles an hour. we definitely have the northerly component. with that 5-15 degrees warmer than we were yesterday at concord and mountain view. red flag warning and warm to hot today. tomorrow a little bit of a sea breeze tomorrow. cooler just for a couple of days before another offshore flow sets up by the end of the workweek. here is the water vapor imagery. here is yesterday's low passes together north.

high building in strongly behind it and that is what is giving us our north-northeasterly wind. it will stick around today. winds will back off a little bit and higher elevations will continue to dry out the atmosphere with those stronger wind speeds. livermore, 80. 93 forecasted today. san francisco should be up to 80 14 degrees warmer than average with san jose, 88. 8 degrees warmer than average and redwood city, 10 degrees warmer than average. it's still looking like critical fire weather for the carquinez and delta and temperatures in the 80s at our coast. 85 in san jose. giants game, it's going to be toasty, 80 and 91 in morgan hill. the fair today, mid and upper 80s today. triathalon at alcatraz looking like it will be a perfect day for that. temperatures in the water about

>> carolyn: jerry sandusky faces his accusers and possible sentence of life in prison. now a preview of what will be very closely watched trial. >> former football coach jerry sandusky will face 52 charges tomorrow morning, claiming that he abused ten boys over a period. one of his alleged victims will be one of the first on the stand. >> there is other evidence that has not been released to the

public that will resonate with the jury. >> evidence including expensive gifts given to the alleged victims and about a what is described as a creepy love letter. >> the charges help bring down the legendary coach joe paterno which was questioned whether he did enough about the alleged abuse. also expected to testify former assistant coach who reported to reported sees sandusky molesting a boy in the showers. while sandusky has denied the allegations in an interview. his response to a question about whether he is attracted to young boys drew even more questions. >> if i say, no, i'm not attracted to boys. that is not the truth because i'm attracted to young people, boys, girls. >> is this a slam dunk case?

>> the prosecution's case has been rushed. >> sandusky will be tried by a jury of hi his peers. they have some connection to penn state, does it hurt or help sandusky. >> it's probably a wash, do they like or dislike paterno because of what happened. they like him more than not. it could be a wild case. it could take a lot of turns. >> a family spokesperson says the sandusky paterno's widow and son is on the witness list. there is a new field poll finding most voters supported brown's initiative to raise income and sales taxes but just barely. 52% of registered voters say they would approve raising taxes to prevent deep cuts in education and public safety.

35% are opposed. governor's proposal would raise income taxes on household incomes over $250,000 for seven years. the plan also includes a quarter cent sales tax increase that everyone would pay. president obama has made eight goal to end homelessness among the military veterans by 2015. his administration is helping san francisco take a step in that direction by funding a new campaign. >> rosanna was living in a series of run down hotels. now she has her own apartment in san francisco, part of a renewed push to take care of the country's vets. she was in the navy during vietnam. >> there was a turning point in my life. i wanted to serve my country. i lost two brothers in vietnam. >> i can't think of a more patriotic thing to do than to find a homeless veteran their

home. >> mayor ed lee announced that san francisco is one of 17 cities to take part in what is called the homes for heroes campaign. the goal here is within hundred days to house 50 homeless vets who have federal rent vouchers. >> this market is very high. there is a process in place where housing authority director can look at the needs of an individual veteran and whether they may be eligible for a higher rent payment. >> they are recruiting landlords >> right now they are really need help, housing also, mentally and counsel, they really need it. >> when you see the homeless in your community it's estimated at least 20% are military vets. >> we have a need there. whether it's a veteran, especially for females. >> in addition to the 50 vets who have the subsidies, hud and

potts. he is from boulder, colorado. he finished in two hours, three minutes and 17 seconds. he is five-time winner. hats off to you mr. andy potts. >> did you know that right now in california, more than one out of three teenagers is unemployed. that is highest in the nation. here is michael finney with some of the causes and what is being done to help them find work. >> reporter: amy is helping prescott build up his resume and find a summer job. 16-year-old says finding a paid position is frustrating. >> it's difficult so i went in and i got something that is paying. >> they a nonprofit research

organization focusing on entry level employment. it puts the teenager employment rate at just over 36%. compared to statewide unemployment rate of 10.9%. >> some of the sectors that teens would traditionally find jobs in has been show slow to recover. teens are facing more competition from different groups of workers. >> reporter: many college grads looking for full time work are settling for jobs normally taken by teens. the federal minimum wage is $7.25 an hour but it's $8 an hour in california and $10.24 in san francisco. the economic policy institute says hire labor costs here contributes to the high teen unemployment rate. >> when you raise the level, fewer of them are going to be

higher. >> it's not discouraging from hiring young people in our program. we have had the goal 25,000 jobs in this summer -- 5,000 jobs for this summer. >> the director of match bridge and a joint program between the city of san francisco and united way. >> a graduate of match bridge, the program teaches job interviewing skills and how to dress for success and time and money management. >> it was amazing. it was like within eight weeks. >> they say the real estate adult program placed her in an internship program. she was hired into a position. >> i would defend call it a win-win. she has been exposed to professional property management and has worked closely with me

attended. organizers are hoping for more this year. fair runs until june 17th. lisa, they need to stay hydrated if they are wandering out there today. >> that's right. temperatures will be in the mid and some upper 80s. so very warm day there. we're looking at our numbers to climb as much as 5-10 degrees higher than yesterday. critical fire danger in the higher elevations around the bay. this is the view from mount tam. not much of a breeze, yesterday further to the north and east around fairfield, relative humidity was down to 10%. san jose yesterday was down to 14%. so we're anticipating relative humidity today in the single digits. live doppler 7 hd, right on top of mount st. helena to showing you the radar and high clouds. all is clear and we are looking at the wind direction which really providing drier

conditions than we have seen all season long. so above thousand feet, north bay mountains, diablo range, 15-25 mile-an-hour winds, gusts over 30, 28 mile-an-hour wind gusts in the east bay hills the last hour. with the relative humidity, already pretty low it is going to be a bone dry day. north bay mountains, 18%. wind gusts up to 30 miles an hour. in the east bay hills, 23% relative humidity and the diablo range in the teens, but it's just 9:00. you add another 10-20 degrees of warmth and more wind, we're talking about a very dangerous day out there and tomorrow. 66 in fremont. 77 in napa. 59 at the coast. northwesterly wind at point reyes, temperatures there at 50 degrees. so there will be some relief at the coast. at the surface, winds are quite calm except for fairfield.

especially with the calm winds we heat up so rapidly at the surface. 11 degrees warmer in san francisco with 15 degrees warmer than yesterday. concord and livermore, red flag warning continues to 8:00 this morning. warming up tuesday and wednesday cool-e days of the week. sea breeze tomorrow but just at the immediate shoreline and then we'll warm up by the end of the week. 70s and 80s but today forecasting 80s in san francisco. that would be 14 degrees above the average. in oakland we are looking at ae78. 15 degrees above the average. san jose, 8 degrees above your average. it's going to be a warm one today and tomorrow due to high pressure building in. with the strong high pressure, coastal temperatures to the south of us in the low 80s. 90s and red flag warning from sacramento. carquinez straits and delta, 80s. plenty of 80s around the bay.

with the breezy winds we have 90s and critical fire danger. nice day at the beach, 86 in santa cruz and 74 in monterey. sea breeze kicks up tomorrow. still in the 70s at the coast and we'll look for 10 degree drop on tuesday. bigger cooling tuesday and wednesday and thursday but then an offshore flow once again by the end of the week. >> when i see a drop on thursday which is good, it's windy, u.s. open returns this week for the golfers. i'm sure they don't want 90 degree weather. >> that is a good point. >> carolyn: the u.s. open returns to the olympic club this week, it will be the second of two major golf events. other being the curtis cup for women being played right now in scotland. this year the u.s. team captain is a local woman. here is wayne freedman. >> reporter: if you are married man who plays golf with your
