>> tense situation in san francisco north beach tonight. >> columbus avenue shut down and bomb squad moves in looking for possible explosive trying to remove them from a hotel good evening i'm sitting in for dan. >> all started with shots fired at a hotel on columbus avenue in san francisco north beach. when police responded they found more weapons than what they believe to be explosives. lillian is live at the scene for us right now. lillian? >>reporter: carolyn, we are on columbus and vallejo and this is the building in question. it's columbus hotel. residential hotel. inside one of the rooms is where police found what they believe to be explosives as well as a sword

and few semi-automatic weapons. bomb squad arrived as soon as they got word. residents meanwhile were told to leave the building. the possible explosives were found inside a room belonging to a woman who works as custodian at the federal reseven. it was there earlier today where police say she suffered some kind of psychotic breakdown. during the conversation with her they say she told them she had fired a gunshot from her room before she went to work and that's what prompted mr. is to do a thorough check of her room at the columbus hotel. >> officers were dispatched to this location. they found a bullet hole in the door. we forced entry to the safety concerns and found several weapons. and what we believe was possibly explosive device. so for the safety of the neighborhood and the people that lived in the building we evacuated the building. notified our bomb squad which is off to the right here. >>reporter: p.m. now it took awhile to evacuate the building. there was one

resident in hospice and paramedic carefully rae moved her from the building. last we heard the bomb squad was doing another sweep of the building and examining the possible explosive. they plan to remove them. the woman is question she's is he psychiatric ward at san francisco general. live, abc 7 news. all right lillian thank yo you. >> preparations are under way in the east bay to shut down 3 fire stations and lay off crew even as we manufacture into a more dangerous phase of the fire season. the reason for the closure sns voters said no to tax increase. 7 news reporter nick smith jones us live with a story from oakland. nick? >>reporter: larry, the east contra costa county fire chief just addressed a roomful of frustrated people here at the city hall building in oakland explaining to them that the cuts coming are tough. those hit the hardest will be those who live on the outskirts of the county. >> you know, they have just kicked us to the curb. >>reporter: this vessel island resident didn't want to give

heat the last couple days. it's beginning to weaken. all in response to this cold front that is approaching and here's what the front is going to d.actually going to bring in the sea breeze sooner so tomorrow afternoon with the fog around interthe coast. cooler conditions expected at the coast line. then on wednesday fog spreads into the bay and inland communities and that's when we expect sea breasts to reach your area so it's noticeably cooler by wednesday around the bay inland. tomorrow morning starting out in the low 50's to the low 60's with some fog. mild start. if you are heading to the u.s. open to check out of golfer with practice rounds tuesday lacking at temperatures in the low 50's to the low 60's. some fog will be around west wind 5 to 15 miles an hour but just lovely weather for the practice round. in the bay area we really looking at nasty warm day again in the south bay. 90 in los gatos. 88 for san jose. low 80's redwood city palo alto ska on the coast in pacifica. downtown san francisco 70 degrees. blue sky
