america this morning. >> announcer: right now breaking news. right now are trying get a handle on a three alarm blaze that has damaged several structures and shutdown bart service through west oakland in both directions. i'm eric thomas. and i'm kristen sze frances will be here with more. first amy hollyfield is live at the bart station with the latest. >> reporter: before we talk about the fire i want to tell you important commuter information. bart officials just told us, all bart trains into san francisco from the east bay have been cancelled until further notice. they are suggest that you find another way to work today, do not count on bart. look into ac transit, ferries. come up with a back-up plan. while that soaks in, let me

tell with you about the . the building behind me used to be a four-story building now it is down to cinder blocks. look what happened to that building. huge fire lit up the night started 2:15 this morning. this was a senior center under construction. no one was hurt. this was obviously empty. under construction. all firefighters are okay. they feel like they have the fire out. they are not calling it completely out or contained. but, we do not see any flames. they are working on hot spots. this fire did travel up to the bart train tracks here at the west oakland bart station, did significant damage to the tracks, that is with why they've cancelled all bart service from the east bay to san francisco. firefighters say when they got here to the scene it was an incredibly hot, huge fire. >> very hot two area fully

involved, people were held back approximately 150 yards. the heat was extending through to -- burning street signs and cars on the road, a lot of heat. >> reporter: it was a huge emergency that burned a lot of construction equipment and this new building, it is down to its cinder blocks. fire emergency is over. while there are several streets blocked off, fights -- firefighters were starting to draw down those should be opening within the hour. the problem is the bart tracks. look at this live picture. bart officials on the elevated platform surveying damage of the tracks. they have no estimated time of when these tracks will be reopening. they aren't sure at -- the extent of the damage they are dealing with. they know the tracks have been burned. they know no trains can get through. therefore, no bart from the

east bay to san francisco. huge cuter story this morning on this thursday -- huge commuter story this morning on this thursday morning. let's turn to frances dinglasan. good morning. i wanted to start off with the map of the area where amy is now. she is at the west oakland near the west oakland bart station. you can see right near fifth and mandela parkway where the huge fire is. bart tracks running across mandela parkway west oakland is the last station that heads to leaves the east bay and heads to san francisco. right now here is what amy was talking about. i've never seen this. they are saying no service from oakland to san francisco and vice versa. please seek alternate means of transportation. usually they say, we'll let you know or we are going to keep you posted on what is happening. right now they are saying seek

alternate means of transportation. you may want to consider ac transit and some of the ferries. if you have to drive because that schedule doesn't work for you, you may want to consider the bay bridge and san mateo bridge right now traffic flowing well all around the bay area. i want to show you a live shot of the bay bridge toll, things are light at this point. we could see extra traffic this morning. again, no service through the transbay tube on bart due to this fire at west oakland. they are trying to set up bus bridges we haven't heard when that will happen. we'll keep you posted. ac transit ferries the alternate if you are thinking about driving still roadwork in some areas eastbound 80 lanes blocked in the eastbound direction westbound towards the bay bridge looking clear. we'll be getting frequent traffic updates throughout this newscast to help you get to work or school because of the bart problem.

developing news in san francisco. police are investigating a pair of overnight shootings that involved as many as five, one person has died. the first incident occurred in the sylvester area silver -- in the sylvester area one killed another has life-threatening injuries. in the bay view district too people were shot near fitzgerald avenue no word on the condition of those victims or if the two shootings may be related. >> the san francisco district attorney is holding a news conference to talk about charge a bicyclist with felony vehicular manslaughter. it involves a fatal accident that happened at castro and market to months ago. sources tell abc7 news police have an arrest warrant for 35-year-old chris bucchere, the bicyclist struck and killed a 71-year-old in the crosswalk on march 26th or

29th after the crash bucchere blogged about plowing through the least crowded place he could find. investigators tracked down ten witnesses including some who say they saw him speeding through red lights prior to the accident. >> i think a lot of bicyclists ride like jerks and idiots to be honest. like not all of them, but enough that it them a bad image. >> i hope that he it makes every cyclist out there think soberly about his or her responsibilities on the road. >> police say they will allow bucchere to turn himself in the next few days since he's not considered a flight risk. we are learning that seven time tour de france champ lance armstrong is being barred from competing in the iron man france which took place later this month. organizers decided not to allow him to compete in the triathlon following the u.s.

police are asking for the public's help in catching a bank robbery suspect. take a look at these four photos i am they show the same man. police -- police say he robbed the first community bank in the nob hill store on may 26th. a week and a half later u.s. bank inside a safeway store. police believe he has been involved in other robberies in the bay area. civil grand jury in the south bay has agreed with mayor reed about the need for pension reform. the report finds pension reform necessary to avoid interfering with city services and calls the cost of pensions an unbearable burden. the mayor says san jose has seen costs increase from 73 million dollars to 245 million dollars in the last decade. he says other cities will see substantial increases if the system isn't modified. >> services will be cut to pay

good morning. amnesty international has ventured into syria without government permission and confirmed torture and abuse. the "los angeles times" reports they interviewed more than 200 in 23 towns between april and the end of may. the human rights group heard many of the same horrors that refugees related after fleeing from their homes. lawless executions and torture by government forces. villages and towns supported the uprising were targeted with today is a holiday june 14th, flag day. president truman made that official in 1949 to honor the american flag. somewhat of an unsung occasion. katie marzullo tell us that doesn't sit well with an oakland man whose loyalty runs deep. >> treat it with respect. a lot of guys died for that

katie marzullo, abc7 news. gusting winds complicating efforts to gain control of a huge wildfire burning in colorado. the hi park fire has burned more than 8,000 acres of dry terrain near fort collins. firefighters are paying special attention to the western edge of the fire approaching forest land. more evacuations were issued yesterday. this fire is only 10% contained. 4:53. we will get to weather in just a moment. there is big news involving the morning commute. bart currently shutdown in both directions west oakland. >> no transbay service. frances important to get what they are telling you. >> what we are hearing from bart is no service through the transbay tube because of a fire near west oakland station. from amy hollyfield who is live at the scene she was letting us know this could go on for days. bart still trying to set up possibly a bus bridge. in the meantime if you have to

take mass transit consider ac, transbay service checking some of the routes some start as early as 6:00, 6:30, same with ferries, no problems now i didn't want to show you a live scene from amy hollyfield's shot. apparently crews are still assessing the damage at the west oakland near the west oakland bart station and because they are assessing it they are saying it could take days we'll let you know. this is a lot of bad news for folks heading to the giants game if you are considering bart you won't be able to get across. that you might have to take ferries or drive. also for folks heading to the u.s. open, a lot of people were planning on doing that today. we'll keep you posted on this. if you have to drive right now here's a live shot of the bay bridge toll, still delay-free probe gig to be busier the next -- probably going to be busier the next few days. once we hear about more
