300 acres burn up in the east bay and in less than an hour. it is very clear an example of how dry and dangerous the wildfire conditions conditions are right now across the bay area. i'm dan ashley. carolyn johnson is off tonight. firefighters all over the bay area are on alert and with good reason. they have already had to put out several fires, and the season has barely begun. the first was a 300-acre blaze. thomas roman is there live. >> firefighters believe it

will be a bad season and people and equipment are on high alert. this fire occurred in a remote uninhabited area of alameda county. firefighters attacked it as people and homes were at risk. more than 200 firefighters supported by firefighters and fixed weaning aircraft brought heat just off calavares roadment roadment -- road. the flames rapidly consumed the dry hills and brush. the department of corrections was on hand. >> we hit it hard with a lot of resources. the heat we were experiencing we want to throw a lot to contain it. >> this is the dry grass land that could have caused the fire to consume more than 1,000 acres according to firefighters. he raises his cattle on the land that is owned by the san francisco water district and came by to check on the damage. >> we need to find out how far back it burned and if we

damaged any water facilities or what. >> a little more than 300 acres were charred. no homes or structures were threatened. the fire danger is high. a fire broke out in marin county after red flag rn whattings were put in place due to expected high winds. they say if the winds are of concern there they will be a problem here. >> the winds don't know when to stop. if they are in the bay area the winds will potentially surface, maybe not to the red flag potential, but they will be increasing. >> it began 10 feet of on calaveras road. it is in an effort to determine exactly how this fire started. investigators will not say whether this fire was suspicious or not until they analyze all of the evidence. all of the evidence. they say the fire is now 90% contained but we won't talk about full containment until daylight.

thomas roman, abc news. in tinder dry boutte county a 100-acre wildfire is fully contained. the firefighters had their hands full. two structures were destroyed and 30 more threatened. it is expected to get worse this weekend. sandhya patel is here with more on the heat and the fire danger jie. a red flag warning is in affect for the north bay mountains and for lake county. it runs until 9:00 a.m. tomorrow. we are looking at gusts as high as 40 miles an hour. low humidity. with a combination of the two add to it the heat and we are really going to be facing high fire danger conditions as we head into the next 24 hours. the north bay mountains winds out of the west. east bay hills out of the south at 4. diablo range southeast to 24 miles an hour. the relative humidity you can see in the 20 to 30% range. this is all going to change as

the offshore flow ramps up. we will see the humidity drop with the gusty winds and the high fire danger. we will be back to tell you how hot it is going to get. temperatures will top the triple digit mark. >> thanks very much. now a different kind of fire. a nightwatchman says he was forced to leave where the fire broke out. that's according to the oakland tribune. the paper is reporting that the security guard was surprised by three men just before the fire broke out at about 2:00 on thursday morning. it was in a senior citizen home. a building inspector and two atf agents entered the burned out building to see if it was safe enough for a fire to begin in ernest. >> there are parts that could collapse inside. the building engineer hillary assess the situation and make sure what is safe and not safe

for investigators to go inside. >> police meantime have not confirmed the nightwatchman's story about being forced out at gun point. investigators are looking for suspects and video of the fire was caught by bart security cameras. field inspectors are carefully watching a tank that released a bad odor into the air. the smell of rotten eggs went through this morning. a tank containing a million gallons of water and hydrogen so lfide -- sulfide ruptured. they say it will be sealed sometime tomorrow afternoon. a health advisory was issued warning people with breathing problems to stay indoors. a long night maybe several long nights for those hoping to keep a school open in oakland. it is one of the campuses being shutdown to save money. john alston is live at lakeview elementary. sounds like they don't plan to leave.

>> we are near the sit in or the sleep in. while it is not likely they will save lakeview they wnt to make a point. as the sun went down the tents went up with some hoping to make a statement. >> wanted to come down and speak out what is going on here in oakland. i want everyone in oakland and across this nation to know that we want this to stop. it is not acceptable. >> it follows the end of lakeview that closed for good after the last day of class. >> they are one of five public schools ordered shutdown. they blamed money problems and declining enrollment. they will become a charter school. >> although this is a tough decision it is for the long-term benefit of the

school district. >> the final day of class brought out children with a heart felt connection. >> i will miss this school. i drive by it a lot and they say that's a great school. i don't want to be -- i want to be able to say that more often. >> we care for each other's children. we wanted to make sure everybody had rides. we had each other's backs. that's important. >> now protestors are having their say. they will allow them to stay for the time being. >> the protest was noisy for awhile, but it is quiet now. it brought out demonstrators including parents teachers and familiar faces from the occupy oakland protest and the berkeley tree protest. another rally is scheduled for saturday afternoon. abc7 news. >> thanks a lot. it was one of california's most notorious crimes. the kidnapping of a bus load of kids in 1976. tonight the youngest of the

kidnappers has been granted parole. 57-year-old richard chungfeld seized the school bus at gunpoint. they were driven to livermore where they were hidden in a buried moving van. they escaped unharmed about 16 hours later. 57-year-old paul seaman is getting a taste of what it was like to be the accused. he befriended his neighbor and quickly added his name to the bank and investment account. seaman's lawyer brushes off reporters. >> we have no comments to make. i haven't seen any of the discovery. we haven't even had a chance to read the complaint or the amended complaint we just received and we have no comments beyond that at this time. >> those accounts he added his name to was d $2 million.

president obama insists he has the authority. abc7 news reporter ama dates is live in san jose with both sides of the story. ama? >> yes dan. not unexpected that the republicans are saying this is not the best move. it will do more harm than good in the long run. some people are celebrating the president's move. she just became a u.s. citizen last year shee. was born in mexico and came here with her parents when she was 5. she graduated from san jose state when she was 10 and an active member for students with higher education. >> the group is advocating for all students regardless of legal status regardless of college degree. it doubles as a party to celebrate president obama's announcement of less deportation enforcement for young, undocumented immigrants. >> these students have been here since their younger years. and they are going to call it

so they can go back to their community. it is not like they are going to go back to their native land. not rely on social services and not rely on unemployment. >> they are voicing their opposition including mitt romney. >> the president's action makes reaching a long-term solution more difficult. >> this can be more devisive in the long run and less helpful than if he created a consensus and passed a law. >> but it is a huge step in the right direction that might help the president come re-election. >> he might pull a lot of latino votes because of this. if he is going to do more than this hopefully it doesn't stop here, and it will probably be beneficial to him. >> i did not ask her who she was voting for, but she told me now that she is a citizen she is very excited to vote in her first presidential election. ama dates abc7 news. >> thank you.

we have fire video from a different perspective. the contra costa district firefighter put on a helmet camera last month. this fire on lincoln avenue in antioch was raging by the time they arrived. no injuries. fire officials say helmet cams are a available tool when it comes to documents what happened and where and how. state vector control agencies say they have identified eight times the number of west nile viruses and mosquitoes this time compared to last. the first case was reported in april. last year it wasn't until late june. west nile has been detected in contra costa and santa clara counties. the warm, wet screen created conditions to thrive and reproduce and smogging efforts are hampered by the new federal pesticide rules.

let's talk about the full forecast. sandhya patel is back and are you talking serious and even dangerous heat. >> absolutely. we have temperatures expected to top the triple digit mark. you combine the heat with the gusty winds and it creates high fire danger. live doppler 7hd and we have a patch of fog that has formed in half moon bay with visibility down to two and a half miles. want to take you back in time and check out the beautiful photo. san francisco looking toward the bay there and submitted by dawn. it is a gorgeous shot and we want to thank dawn for the beautiful picture. now check out this spectacular sunset. a few high clouds when the sun went down, but at that time we didn't have fog. the fog is very limited tonight once again to half moon bay. and that is what we are expecting is a patch of fog or two. look at the temperature in antioch. it is 82 degrees.

that's pretty warm still. we have plenty of 60s and even some 70s showing up in places like livermore. we are headed toward a warm night. 100-degree temperatures. high fire danger for the north bay hills, and even in the surrounding area. even though we don't have red flag warnings everywhere, just the north bay hills, just be aware of the fact that the fire danger is high. it is cooling down for father's day. at least we will be a little more comfortable for the dads. higher pressure is providing a set up where the offshore flow is increasing. this is the wind flow that comes out from the land and down toward the ocean. as the wind moves toward the ocean you get compression and the compression causes the air mass to warm. we are already seeing this offshore flow developing. it rams up overnight, and as we head into tomorrow afternoon it will peak. the temperatures will sore bayside and inland. and then sunday the wind switches direction as it comes back on shore and coming in

off the cooler ocean waters. you will see the fog and the sea breeze surgeries back and the temperatures start to fall on sunday. tomorrow morning it is really mild to warm in our inland east bay. 60s and 70s and most other areas in the 50s except cloverdale at 60 degrees. if you are heading to round three of the u.s. open, beautiful weather. 54 degrees in the morning. clear skies expected. the temperature is actually warming up to 70 degrees. the wind will be light out of the northwest 5 to 15 miles an hour. and i know wind plays a factor in the championship there. beautiful weather for the u.s. open round three. hot conditions in the south bay tomorrow. 96 in los gatos and getting up to 93 in santa clara. today is warmer and it will get even warmer tomorrow. on the peninsula 82 in millbrae. low 90s redwood city, palo alto. if you don't like the heat, 70 degrees in half moon bay. 71 in daily city. -- daly city. the north beach festival is
