05 in livermore. sea breeze moving in, san francisco getting the effect hoff the sea breeze. 73. santa cruz right now, 78, and it is 102 in los gatos with temperatures this hot you suspect possibly some record highs today. no record highs but boy we were up from yesterday. up 14 in napa, up five in oakland. los good ats good good ats good gatos up 14, and all because of high pressure, and that brings the warm air mass. that is in place tonight. the winds shift tomorrow and we start to cool down. >> ama: it is a struggle for some to keep cool this evening, and the higher temperatures raise concerns about fire danger. sergio quintana is live in walnut creek and sir. >> it's not just uncomfortable. they heat can be dangerous.

>> there are actually fry -- fire crews making preparations. right near walnut creek it got well into the triple digits, and i was tiking to people inside this ice cream shop. they said they were out and about but it got so hot they had to go to this shop to find some relief. and this afternoon here in downtown walnut creek the mercury peeked above 100 degrees, and in the late afternoon, it was still 101 so ice cream was the choice of relief. but with such hot, dry temperatures, people across the bay area are not just looking for escape from the sun. fire teams are on high alert and are preparing accordingly. >> we have had two vegetation fires in the last week and a half and that's always an awareness. that's the real deal. we have smoke and helicopters. but, yeah it started early. the fire season, but this is part of the preparation for it.

>> always immediate danger being in this kind of terrain. >> reporter: north county fire crews in brisbane went over wildfire drills. there's already been a couple of brush fire breakouts in the last several days in brisbane, and this training was an opportunity to get out on a fireline in a controlled setting, and of course we have had a series of spot fires and brush fires throughout the bay area. so those preparations can come in useful. reporting live in walnut creek. abc-7 news. >> ama: thank you so much. right now crews are checking for hot spots after a grass fire in san jose next to highway 280. we captured these plumbs of -- plumes of smoke. the fire closed the burk onramp. we'll have updates at 6:00. fire crews continue to investigate the cause of a wildfire in remote alameda

county south of sunol that started yesterday. crude reported full containment around 9:00 this morning. the fire burned about 60 acres. more than 200 firefighters battled the flames steep terrain and heat. as you can see the fire quickly ate up the dry brush. >> more fire crews are on the season of a raging wildfire in northern colorado. more than 1500 personnel are working on the fire that was sparked by lightning just over a week ago. the fire is blamed for the death of a woman who was found inside her cabin. flames destroyed at least 185 homes. the most in state history. the fire is now 20% contained and officials say full containment could take up to a month. greece may have been the cause of an apartment fire in burlingame that left several families without a place to live and the red cross is having a hard time finding

accommodation for them. lisa amin gulezian is live from the complex with the story. >> lisa: most people in at the bottom two floors of the building should be able to go home later today but for the other 25 units the u.s. open is impact can their hotel search. >> we heard screaming fire, fire, and there was like thick black smoke and imagine somebody putting a black blanket over your fires. >> they lived three doors down from where the fire started. investigators believe burning grease started burning. >> two were involved with heavy fire damage, and then the 15 on the third floor are uninhabitable. >> what about the first and second floor? >> each one have four units on the second floor and on the first that have heavy water damage. >> leaving 50 people homeless.

>> so shaken up devastated shocked. worried about my -- it's not the things. at it the sentimental things. >> the red cross set up a disaster center inside the complex's clubhouse where displaced residents can get food, water, and even a place to sleep. normally the red cross would put people up in hotels. >> unfortunately right now there are not vary -- very many hotel rooms available. the u.s. open has filled up a lot of hotel rooms. >> while the red cross continues to look for lodge the fire department investigates, especially after several residents raised the same concern. >> the fire alarms didn't go off and i didn't hear anything at all. >> some residents tell me the alarmed sounded when they were just about out of the building. the complex uses manual fire alarms. investigators are clerking the entire system to see if smoke detectors, which are not tired

be hooked up to the siren system, were working. >> and north park apartment management would not comment on the fire or on the alarm system. all they would say is that they're looking into the allegations. live in burlingame, lisa amin gulezian, abc-7 news. >> ama: thank you. in rodeo right now, a repair team is on site of the fill lips 66 refinery where a ruptured water tank caused a big scare. a tank containing a million gallons of water and hydrogen sulfide erunted emitting the smell of rotten eggs in the area. this morning crews applied foam to cap the liquid inside. phillips 66 says the company's air monitoring tests show it is working, so a repair team was sent in to patch the tank. health officials say the odor was not harmful. >> the search is on for a gunman after four people were shot in oakland and one of them died. it happened just before

4:00 this morning at the intersection of 28th avenue and east 16th street. each of the men was hit by gufers. one -- gunfire. one is in critical condition and two others are expected to survive. police are offering an award for the arrest of the killer. >> a group of determined parents, teachers and children, are camping out at an oakland elementary school trying to keep it from closing lakeview is one of five schools the school districts closing down. the reason given is budget cuts and declining enrollment. one parent says this fight is for everyone. >> there are lot of families in oakland, and the cities don't have the resources and the support. so this is not about my family. this is about the rest hoff the families in the city of oakland that are not being supported by the school district and everybody is affected by this. even the schools that are receiving chirp. >> parents and teachers say that camping is their last resort and

@a >> ama: friends, family and supporters gathered today to mark the creation of a scholarship fund in honor of firefighter vincent perez fer res and paramedic died a year ago battling a fire at a four story home in diamond heights. the fund is established at reardon high school, perez's alma mater. his brother told us vincent believed in helping people. >> extremely proud to be a fireman, extremely proud of the high school. he loved everything san disprearntion if he had to do it over again with that house and people's lives in danger, he would go back in that house. that's the type of person he is. >> perez was a 21 year veteran of the force when he died in june of last year. we have been talking all about the heat today. it is quite warm and toasty.

tomorrow. onshore, instead of offshore. that warm wind direction so look for the patchy fog to return to the coast tomorrow. and then beyond that. look for the cooling trend to stay with us for the first part of the work week. high pressure over us, a few high clouds. looks like the fog will return by tomorrow. lows tonight, we'll look for also patchy fog coastside but it is going to be another mild one. antioch, getting down to 70 degrees. 60s inland. so to cool things down near the coast and bay in advance of the patchy fog returning coastside overnight. you can see some of the high clouds here that have been moving across the bay area. otherwise we have been clear today. of course, very hot. low pressure, bring us awe the offshore winds today making it hot. really hot inland. things are going to shift as that high starts to move on. low will take over.
