wonder if the mist is giving those lights a different look. >> a dreamy look. >> good morning i'm terry mcsweeney in for eric thomas. and i'm kristen sze. berkeley firefighters confirming a woman has died in a fast moving house fire overnight. katie marzullo is live on marina street. >> reporter: we've been able to move closer to the house. take a look this is what remains the house still standing there fire as high as the attic and as low as the basement crews making sure there are no hot spots left because this is such an old home they worry there could be fire in the walls. they are -- want to put all of that out. it was a deadly fire. young woman who died was on the third floor in the attic

space that was converted into a lot of. crews were able to go in and get her and bring her out, which was a feat getting up to those attic spaces difficult because they have such thin entryways. they did start cpr but she did not survive. crews don't know her exact cause of death. two others were hurt. they were taken to the hospital with burn injuries and smoke inhalation. i was able to talk to the woman in lived next door. she told me what she saw early this morning. >> i ran out of the house i could see towering flames. if you like behind us the house is about 30, 40 feet high. maybe the flames why going up 50 feet, i don't know. when i went across there were embers flying through my house and the next house. >> reporter: investigators will be on scene looking into the cause of the fire, where it started and they will be the ones to determine whether

there were working smoke detectors in the home. one young woman died, two injured. there are five more people staying in the home who were able to get out without injury the red cross is on scene assisting them. three young women were sitting on the consider didn't want to go on camera for understandable reasons. somber scene out here this morning as they know they lost one of their friends. katie marzullo, abc7 news. we are following breaking news in alamo a where investigators are trying to determine what set off a fire that destroyed a 4200 square foot home these are photos from the fire protection district fire reported by homeowners after 11:00 last night. it took crews more than two hours to contain the flames. one firefighter was treated for minor injuries. everyone in the home managed to get out safely. this morning san francisco

fire investigators will begin the job of figuring out the cause of yesterday's massive fire along the waterfront at a pier developed for the america's cup. amy hollyfield is liver at pier 29 with that story he -- is live at pier 29 with that story. >> reporter: it looks pretty bad, red tagged, huge piles of rubble. firefighters are proud that it didn't spread to the buildings next door or to a back building. they were able to save all of those. firefighters say that was an accomplishment considering this was a huge fire and it demanded an incredible amount of water from multiple sources, including from the bay. they tried to attack it from the roof and realized it was too dangerous up there, they had to come down and fight it on the ground. the fire started before 2:00 yesterday afternoon there was plenty of people around, plenty of people who watch and take pictures of the fire. firefighters had to be careful that no one was hurt especially when the building

started falling apart. >> you can see the facade has given way the commander did a good job assessing the vulnerability of the structure and established what we call a collapse zone to make sure there was no one in front of the building. sure enough parts of the facade did give way. >> reporter: this 115,000 square foot warehouse is being converted to a center for spectators for next year's america's cup race. a spokeswoman says this will not impact their plans they look forward to moving ahead with the construction of the america's cup village there. were welders here working on the building earlier in the day. no one was here at the time of the fire so no one was hurt. police say at this point it doesn't appear to be a suspicious fire. it is too soon to tell what caused it. they will be working to figure that out today. they did have to shutdown the embarcadero in both directions yesterday including the f line street cars that created tough traffic challenges.

a motive to do harm to him. we feel our clients are being unfairly targeted. >> parents appeared briefly in court yesterday their arraignment was postponed until tomorrow. cash strapped city of richmond exploring new ways to cut costs and they may include fewer city sponsored festivals. richmond is facing a 2.6 million dollar deficit in the next fiscal year. the council is exploring new ways to cut costs, including broad salary and benefit reductions for city employees. they could do away with civic festivals, including the city's juneteenth and cinco de mayo celebrations. >> protesters are expected to greet google shareholders when they hold their annual meeting today. consumer group believes google is violating privacy of users will begin the demonstration 12:30 ampitheater mountain view. urging them to i am a do not track feature. -- >> san francisco cab drivers

working with municipal transportation agency to get more taxis on the streets during city events there are more than 1500 active cab permits in san francisco. city officials approved 100 temporary permits to accommodate the crowds at the u.s. open last weekend. extra cabs were deployed when bart was disrupted by fire a week ago. the examiner reports officials are considering more cabs for major weekend events such as upcoming pride celebration, america's cup and music festival. >> of california has dropped civil lawsuit against 15 occupy the farm protesters. last month 100 uc -- uc police officers moved in and cleared the encampment. some protesters had been living and planting crops on the uc owned land. officials say they suspended the suit because university gained control of the land and research has been able to resume.

a lot of other fires to talk about. i'm kristen sze. and i'm terry mcsweeney in for eric thomas. in berkeley a house fire has taken a person's life. katie marzullo joins us live from the scene. >> reporter: the house is still standing and you can see behind us there are investigators coming and going from the building even in the attic. the look from the outside doesn't reflect the tragedy that happened inside early this morning after 2:30 fire crews got the call arrived at this three story house basement, main level and attic space. in the attic a young woman thought to be in her 20s was kill. crews were able to get her out and did try cpr on the scene but it was too late.

if convicted lynch could face four years in prison. this morning closing arguments set to begin in the jerry sandusky trial. the defendant rested yesterday out calling the assistant coach to the stand to dispute charges he molested 10 boys over a decade. their case -- their case consisted of character references including the ex-wife who said she never saw her former husband do anything inappropriate with children. sandusky faces 51 counts if convicted he could be sent to prison for the rest of his life. family of a berkeley man killed by an intruder is setting the stage for a lawsuit. the family has filed a wrongful death claim against the city for severe emotional distress. cukor was killed in february after calling 911 to report and . the family claims he was told by a dispatcher that help was on the way the dispatcher told an officer not to respond.

the stiff berkeley has not responded to requests from abc7 news for a comment. this morning oakland mayor quan's office is admitting the city's crime epidemic goes well beyond the 100 blocks she has repeatedly claimed were the city's most dangerous. the contra costa times reports mayor quan's top aide says the key statistic the mayor used to sell her anti-crime program was grossly inflated. study by a non-profit found quan's 100 block plan only covers 17% of homicides and shootings. police would need to focus on 1300 blocks to reduce violence. the aide says the mayor only learned the figure was incorrect last week. yesterday summer began and it felt like summer. today. >> it feels like a san francisco summer with the fog. good morning meteorologist mike nicco. people visiting not going to know how to dress, absolutely. yesterday -- [ talking over each other ]
