>> announcer: this is abc7 with breaking news. good morning i'm eric thomas. and i'm kristen sze. our breaking news is in san francisco, firefighters have contained a brushfire. katie marzullo is live at the scene. >> reporter: i just got off the phone with fire dispatch. it is out, contained it is here at stern grow. video, decent flames out here, 2 a.m. the fire department got a call there was a fire. when the crew arrived they realized they were going to need more help. the fire was burning in a canyon closer to the what know that -- winona side of stern grow. fire department not giving specifics there was a homeless

encampment nearby. firefighters did tell the cameraman on the scene they were looking for someone they wanted to make sure that someone was okay. certainly sounds like they believe a human was at the center of this fire and they were looking for that person. they did not find that person. you can see flames in the leaves, stayed on the ground did not get up to the trees. one acre was burned. take a look at this, last week stern grove launched its free outdoor summer concert series that just kicked off, celebrating 75 years they have a lot of performances in the outdoor ampitheater. 14,000 people typically show up for those events. that is something that was kicked off last sunday. moving forward this sunday as well, not impacted by this fire this morning.

katie marzullo, abc7 news. right now the coast guard is searching san francisco bay for a person mo fell into the water at pier 32. -- amy hollyfield is live in san francisco with the latest. >> reporter: they got the call a little before 11:00 last night. the coast guard has been searching all night. i'm hoping we have video to show you. they launched two coast guard boats overnight and the san francisco fire boat was out there as part of the search. no sign of this man. the man's friend told police he saw his friend at the end of pier 32, he was leaving himself, the man looked away. when he looked back he says his friend was again. no one saw him in the water but the report came in that it is believed that he fell in. a security guard who was out here also part of the search told us that the man reported that his friend was drunk.

they went to the giants game and they were returning to their car parked at pier 32. police were told the man is wearing a blue jacket and blue jeans. the coast guard tells me as soon as the sun comes up they will rae says whether to continue their -- they will reassess whether to continue their search. amy hollyfield, abc7 news. this morning, prominent san francisco gay rights activist larry brinkin is facing child pornography charges. the 66-year-old was(n%éz arrestd friday and booked into jail he's now out on bail. he retired from the city's human rights commission two years ago. police seized computers, videos and a floppy disc from his home. police launched an investigation after getting a tip from the los angeles police department. right now, martinez police looking for a man who crashed

his car into a goodyear store after a chase 10:30 last night. we brought you the story at 11. the black honda crashed into the goodyear store on alhambra avenue the car burst into flames after the collision. investigators were trying to pull over a wanted suspect the man reportedly assaulted someone with a baseball bat earlier in the evening. this morning two suspects in custody after a reported kidnapping in san pablo. sheriffs focused on a house on michelle drive. they set up a crime scene at the neighborhood last night. detectives are saying little about their investigation. two men were detained for questioning in connection with the case and they are talking to a woman. pittsburg firefighters think a child playing with matches started a fire that burned down the family house leaving 11 homeless the father heard the smoke alarm and saw his children running from the house he went in to find his

son's bed engulfed in flames, this happened 2:00 yesterday afternoon the fire generated a lot of smoke which firefighters say hampered their efforts that smoke was visible to ers on the highway near bay, -- to drivers on the highway nearby, but no one was hurt. central valley town about 85 miles east of san francisco faces a projected 26 million dollar deficit. stockton has lost tax revenue with the second highest housing foreclosure rate in the nation. generous retirement plans and expensive city investments have added to the burden. midnight deadline has passed spokesperson says negotiations were confidential and will not be announced if the city fails to reach a deal stockton's lawyers could file for bankruptcy protection as early as tomorrow. the investigation into

that massive building fire that disrupted bart's transbay service for several hours last month is headed in a new direction. agents finished looking through the debris at the site of the fire yesterday. for the past four days investigators from the bureau of alcohol tobacco and firearms have been going through mounds of debris looking for the cause of the blaze. they brought in a k-9 fire and rescue team from portland to look for suspicious combustible liquids. >> if we find something in an area we are not sure that the ignition temperatures of those products in that area doesn't match up with the ignition sources. >> atf agents will take their investigation to a crime analysis lab in walnut week where they will go through 400,000 pounds of evidence collected at the scene >> san francisco police went undercover wearing dodger blue to root out troublesome fans during last night's game.

40 fans were there thrown out of the game for misconduct, no arrests. staffers say recent problems are due to alcohol consumption. fans tell us the brian stow incident changed things. >> less heckling. granted. >> reporter: urgent warning as the storm slowly marches across the florida coast. tahman bradley, abc news. time for a check on the weather. >> this is not moving mike. >> not really. debby is still a tropical storm winds around 45 miles per hour not the big worry. the fact that it is not moving still spinning, churning up the ocean and dropping thunderstorms on the same areas parched areas no doubt, very dry areas that need the rain but not this much this quickly. notice how the storms aren't wrapping around debby counterclockwise area of high pressure west and northerly wind compressing the rain into southern georgia and northern florida that's where i would expect the flooding to be. here at home, look at this sutro looking down on san francisco to the bay looks clear this morning over in the east bay hills doppler showing the clear sky at home.
