. tuesday morning 5:01 thanks for joining us i'm kristen sze. i'm eric thomas. coast guard boats and a helicopter are sweeping san francisco bay near pier 32 looking for a person who appears to have fallen in. amy hollyfield is live near the scene. >> reporter: i just spoke with police and i just talked to a security guard out here patrolling still no sign of this man. they are out on the water searching for him. they are also searching from up above there's a coast guard helicopter that is being used in the search. they've been looking all night long. they launched a couple coast guard boats and the san francisco fire boat overnight. they got call before 11:00 a man was missing and believed to have fallen into the bay. a man called police and said his friend was standing on the end of pier 32 he was

relieving himself. so the man looked away when he looked back he said his friend was gone. the man says his friend was drunk. they had been at the giants game and they were returning to their car which was parked at pier 32. police say no one actually saw the man in the water. that is where they are searching and they did launch their coast guard boats and san francisco fire boat overnight. they have at least one boat still out there the coast guard tells me when the talking about to continue the search. amy hollyfield, abc7 news. 5:02. also breaking news in the other part of san francisco this morning this is in stern grove where firefighters had to move quickly to knock down flames that broke out before 2:00 this morning. the fire burned near a hem lows encampment, firefighters managed to keep it to one acre keeping flames on the ground out of the trees.

katie marzullo is at the scene. she has more information she will bring us a live update coming up. this morning police in two bay area communities investigating officer involved shootings in east palo alto san mateo county task force agent said a man tried to ram them with a car. the suspect ran from the scene police arrested him a short time later he's being charged with assault with a deadly weapon. >> sky 7 was over an antioch neighborhood yesterday after police tried to after arrest warrant for a man wanted for child abuse and parole violation. one officer opened fire and wounded the suspect after police say he pulled a gun. he's expected to survive. antioch police and contra costa county d.a.'s office are investigating. a few hours from now defense attorneys for a man accused of beating a priest will be making a request for a

mistrial. william lynch is on trial for the 2010 beating of father gerald lindner who lynch says repeatedly raped him when he was a child. a judge has denied a mistrial request yesterday the father invoked his fifth amendment rights yesterday and refused to answer any more questions. the judge struck all of lindner's previous testimony after the defense argued it would be unfair to allow it to stand if they couldn't cross-examine father lindner. the statute of limitations has run out on the alleged rape but father lindner could be charged with perjury for denying the molestations on the stand. later today crews will head back into a mall that collapse trapping two and injuring 20 parts of the mall parking deck coll lambed on to the mall saturday at least -- collapsed on the mall saturday it trapped at least two people. efforts were stopped after it became too dangerous to continue the search.

crews will head back in later today after securing parts of the collapsed structure. the panel that oversees san francisco international airport will take a vote that could kill plans to build a hydrogen refueling station at sfo. negotiations have broken off with the company that would operate the station. sfo chief recommends dropping the three million dollar project over fears of a catastrophic gas explosion and whether the city would be liable for it. contra costa fire officials drawing up plans to close a third of their stations unless voters approve a parcel tax in november. polling shows voters say taxes are already too high but might accept a $63 a year tax hike, 2/3 of voters would have to improve the increase. the fire district is hoping for an $88 increase. the east contra costa fire district in oakley passed

the city of san francisco will honor pitcher matt cain for his perfect game tonight. mayor lee will present cain with a key to the city before the game against dodgers. cain pitched the only perfect game in giants history two weeks ago. he retired 27 straight batters, 14 strikeouts, cain shut out astros 10-0 in that game. professional hockey returning to the cow palace with the addition of the san francisco bulls to east coast hockey league. the bulls set to announce their schedule later today. the bulls will begin playing at the cow palace in october. if you recall, the san jose sharks played their first two seasons at the cow palace from 1991 to '93. for you royal watchers it has been 14 months since catherine middleton joined the royal family now the british press is in overdrive reporting on a revised version of rules involving hierarchy

good morning. tuesday morning. 5:28 thanks for being here i'm eric thomas. >> and i'm kristen sze. update to breaking news we've been following all morning. san francisco firefighters have contained a brushfire at stern grove it broke out a couple of hours ago three hours ago by now katie marzullo is live at the scene. >> reporter: the fire was burning deep into the grove back in there closer to the -- the fire department got the

call around 2:00 this morning and when they arrived on scene they saw this. fairly decent bright orange flames burning in the brush, leaves it burned one acre before the fire was out. at this hour, no official word on the cause of the fire. we have understand there was a homeless encampment nearby and the firefighters on the scene said they were looking for someone they feared might have been hurt, someone at the center of the fire but they did not find that person. coincidentally, stern grove is popular and just last week sunday they kicked off their free summer concert series. 14,000 people typically pack into the ampitheater for ballet to opera. thousands come here and hopefully, this fire has not impacted that. and the show will go on come this sunday. katie marzullo, abc7 news.

5:29. right now the coast guard is searching san francisco bay for a person who apparently fell into the water at pier 32. amy hollyfield is live in san francisco, this happened after the ballgame last night? >> reporter: that's right. they still have the coast guard cutter on the water looking. the helicopter is getting a little break now refueling and switching out teams the crew that worked all night is now getting a break. here's video that we shot at about 4:30 this morning helicopter above looking over the bay out all night long they have that cutter on the water, no sign of this man. he was reported missing last night before 11:00. his friend said he saw him on the end of pier 32 he looked away when he looked back his friend was again. he says his friend was drunk they had been at the giants game. no one saw him in the water. they are presuming that's where he is. the coast guard, police

story at 11 p.m. black honda crashed into the goodyear store on alhambra avenue. the man reportedly assaulted someone with a baseball bat earlier in the evening. police were searching a nearby apartment complex for the suspect. this morning, two suspects in custody after reported kidnapping in san pablo. officials focused on a house on michelle drive set up a crime scene last night. detectives are saying little about their investigation. two men were detained for questioning in connection with the case they are talking to a woman. pittsburg firefighters think a child playing with matches started a fire that burned down the family home leaving 11 homeless. the child's father says he heard the smoke alarm and saw his children running from the house he went in and found his son's bed engulfed in flames around 2 yesterday afternoon the fire created a lot of

smoke which firefighters say hampered their efforts that smoke was visible on highway 4. city officials in stockton continue to grapple with the financial crisis that is threatening to turn night the largest u.s. city to file for bankruptcy. the central valley town 85 miles east of san francisco faces projected 26 million dollar deficit stockton has lost tax revenue with second highest foreclosure rate in the nation, retirements and investments added to the burden. midnight deadline passed for the city to restructure debt with creditors. spokesperson says negotiations were confidential and would not be announced if the city fails to reach a deal lawyers could file for bankruptcy protection as early as tomorrow. san francisco police traded in their police blues for dodger blue to go undercover last night to root out troublesome fans at the game. 40 fans were thrown out of the
