accident in which a freight train struck and killed a pedestrian. it was heading to oakland when it hit the young woman. 18-year-old samantha gomez. the investigation delayed service much of the morning. another person died in april. residents have complained about the lack of warning signals when trains approach. >> there are nearly 500 pounds of fire works off the streets this afternoon and abc 7 news was with investigators when they removed explosives this morning. there is one on 4th avenue south. amy hollyfield takes us on a raid of the home. >> there are guns drawn and officers barged into a home around 8:30 this morning looking for illegal fire

sparking both fires. >> there is breaking news in colorado. the wildfire burning near colorado springs doubled and now about 24 square miles, burning about 10 acres of land on the campus of the u.s. air force this, shows the air force academy in colorado springs. now, the fire is crept through the campus, but there are no reports of buildings that are burning there. you can see this this try. photos and video are just unbelievable. the fire chief called this fire epic. you can see why. and there is thunderstorms forecast in the area that, means unpredictable winds and patterns taking us to rebecca stevens live in colorado springs. >> we've been battling winds

homes burned. conditions are just too dangerous to survey damage there are 32 thousand people jumped to safety when the wildfire jumped to homes on tuesday and showers fell from the sky. drivers were gridlocked in traffic. >> couldn't see the sun anymore. it's just scariest thing i've seen. >> forecasters say there will be no break for mother nature, thunderstorms expected in afternoon, but they can bring unpredictable winds and lightning could set back the firefighting efforts and this is not just california. in -- colorado. in utah, 60 structures burned so far. and wyoming and montana under red flag warnings, firefighters are not only coping with flames, but record-setting heat.

and it requires a majority to pass a budget instead of a super majority. >> city of stockton could file for bankruptcy, becoming the largest u.s. city to do so. city of nearly 300,000 is broke, and in serious debt. last night the city council voted 6-1 in favor of a special budget. designed to keep the city running day-to-day, and plug next year's $26 million deficit. the most came after city leaders failed to win concessions from credit tores to avoid bankruptcy despite this, the mayor remains hopeful. >> it's never over until it's over. we keep hoping with our fingers crossed we're going to have some kind of settlement or a basis of a good settlement that could take us into chapter 9 filings. >> officials blame the situation on fiscal mismanagement, housing slump and generous pay and benefit programs for city workers. those workers now face steep

healthy living news a study suggests smokers could be immunized against nicotine

so they would gain no pleasure from the habit. researchers say they've devised a vaccine assaulting nicotine entering the body. a study shows levels will reduce by 85% after vaccinations and researchers admit it will take years before it can be tested on people. a new study suggests coffee is a heart healthy drink. the study finds drinking two eight-ounce cups per day reduces a chance of developing heart disease by 11%. compared to people who don't drink coffee at all. the authors say coffee may lower risks for diabetes which can contribute to cardiac failure. >> surgeons in mexico removed a tumor bigger than the child carrying it. doctors say that tumor weighed 33 pounds. and the little one? two years old, weighs 26 pounds. the boy born with a lump that drew to cover the right side

you. >> how about tab blet? they're jumping into this now. >> this is a important part of the google story. tab blets are on the market in the sense android marketing system is saying we want our own tab blets we're going to sell ourselves in the way they've done with a couple phone products so far. this not only means google is going after more of the market share but means they're going after amazon. this tablet product looks like a kindel fire. and this is smaller and brings you to books and music and movies they're trying to sell you through offerings like google play. there is amazon pushing for other device-relate prod ducts. big battle going on.

california schools showing things are getting better when it comes to graduation rates. >> three-fourths of students from to 11 received their diplomas. and that is a jump of 1.5%. >> the grad raigs rate among english learners increased by nearly 4%. among latinos and african americans went up, but reality is that numbers are still low. only 63% of african americans and 70% of latinos finished high school last year. there is a system implemented before you had this, you can can accurate numbers. and some are still enrolled and just haven't finished. this is very important for

an atherton man is thanking firefighters for rescuing his dog. somehow this 40 pound dog managed to climb 30 feet up on

day to the next. so we're going to be focusing on sues like menopause, hormone replacement therapy is a serious topic and confusing for women in terms of what to do. and i actually study that came out this month on bone densitty caught my eye. this said calcium and vitamin d is not beneficial to post menopausal women because they're not producing estrogen. i got the low down on that. she said unless you're on hrt no need to waste money on supplements but younger women need to focus on building strong bones in 20s so by the time they reach menopause whit starts to decrease, they'll be in good shape. so that is an example.
