took a victory lap. >> today's decision was a victory for people all over this country. lives will be more secure. >> in a surprise, chief justice john roberts sided with the liberal justices. the decision is that americans can't be forced to buy health insurance, but they can be penalized for choosing not to. wrote because the constitution permits a tax, it's not our role to for bid it. republicans said the only way to get rid of the law now is to vote the president out of office. and mitt romney said nothing has changed. >> obama care is bad law yesterday, it's bad law today. >> with the decision, all pro visions remain intact. americans under age 26 can remain on their parents plan. children with preexisting conditions cannot be denied coverage. there are no limits on how much they pay out.

americans aren't sold on the law. a washington post pole found just one third had a favorable opinion of it. >> it should be clear that i didn't do this because it's good politics. but because i believed it's good for the country. >> house republicans says since the senate won't act it's a symbolic, meaningful vote. >> and and there is a look at status of health care in the country. just over 17% of the population uninsure add cording to the gallup index. the figure has been rising since 2008. still most people do have some form of health care insurance. when you look at people with insurance, cnn estimates 64% of them, vast majority get their coverage through private insurance, most get that from our employers.

about 31% of americans receive some form of government provided health care insurance. and let's take a look at president obama's health care reforms, the congressional budget office estimates it will cost $940 billion to provide this coverage. you're wondering who is going pay for this? you, me, and everybody else, we'll start with high earners for one n 2013 individuals who make more than $200,000 a year and couples more than $250,000 a year would have to pay a 2.35% tax into medicare, up from the current 1.45%. now, people misusing their flexible spending accounts are being penalized and this one is a surprise. i have not heard this. there are people that use indoor tanning salons have been paying a 10% tax and

those charges are going to begin in 2014, and there are families paying either $285 or 1% of the income, whichever is greater, in 2015 going up to $985 or 2%. and so the scale moves upwards there. finally the dollar amounts for a single adult would be $95,, $325 and $625 during that same time period. hopefully this description puts a rap on things. this is a precedent-setting ruling. and conservatives are speaking out against it today, it could turn out to be a victory in the long run. abc news will join with us that part of the story coming up on abc 7 news at 4:30. >> and there are democrats walked off the house floor

breaking news sky 7 video in southern santa clara county. deputies searching for a suspect who fired shots at them during a sting operation. >> this happened at mount month ma donna park. and we have the scene with the latest. >> the area is still considered pending. they're looking for a second suspect. the suspect in custody has been transported to the hospital with a wound to his arm. and this all happened this

morning in santa clara county. it is above the creek, nine members of a team and fish and game wardens came to this area to find and eradicate a suspected grow. deputies ran across two suspects around 11:45. they had to hike in about an hour, we're told sheriff deputies did fire shots. and there are both suspects ran way. two rifles discovered at the marijuana camp. then about an hour later one suspect suffering from a nonlife threatening wound to his arm turned himself to a team from jant cruz county
